Apartment in Portsmouth
Reasons to book
About this apartment rental
Two bedrooms, one bathroom and space for four, on the top floor (served by a lift) of a building overlooking Southsea Common. Each bedroom has a UK king-size bed that unzips into two singles, so a group sleeps exactly as it prefers. The front of the apartment looks across the water to the Isle of Wight, and the view is always moving, with ships, yachts and the hovercraft passing through. Shops and restaurants on Palmerston Road are 2 minutes away on foot and Southsea Castle 8, with the beach on the far side of the Common.
The Space:
Sleeping
Bedroom 1: zip-and-link UK king-size bed (150 cm, similar to a US queen) that can be split into two single beds, with views toward Ryde on the Isle of Wight and of the Spinnaker Tower.
Bedroom 2: a second zip-and-link UK king (150 cm), also available as two singles, plus a wardrobe.
Choose king or singles for each room when you book. Fresh linen and towels are provided for every guest, along with extra pillows and blankets, blackout blinds, plug sockets beside the beds and a tower fan in both rooms.
Bathrooms
A single shared bathroom with a tub and overhead shower, supplied with shampoo, conditioner, body wash, soap and a hair dryer.
Kitchen and dining
Cook at home with the oven, stovetop, microwave, toaster, kettle and coffee maker (pods supplied), cookware, baking sheets, dishes, silverware and wine glasses. The large refrigerator has a separate freezer. Meals are served at the dining table in the living area.
Living
A recently replaced sofa, a 42-inch smart TV where you log in to your own streaming services, and a shelf of board games and children's books.
Outside
Southsea Common, a wide seafront park, is across the road, so there is grass for a picnic or a ball game and the shingle beach just beyond.
Everyday practicals
Wi-Fi, a laptop-friendly workspace, a washing machine in the kitchen, a drying rack, iron and board, heating, hangers, smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, a fire extinguisher and a first aid kit.
Travelling with children
Kids and babies are welcome. We have no crib or high chair, so please pack a travel crib if your little one needs one. The bathtub makes bedtime routines easier.
Good to know
A few steps lead up from the street to the building's front door, and the shared entrance hall is plainer than the apartment itself. Once you are inside, everything is on one level.
Guest Access:
Your group has the entire apartment. Self check-in by key safe is available from 4 pm until 9 pm, and check-out is 10 am. A free on-street permit for one car (zone KC) is included each night; extra vehicles can use the Southsea Common car park around the corner.
The Neighborhood:
Southsea is the seaside side of Portsmouth, and the apartment faces its big open park. Walking times: Palmerston Road shopping street 2 min, Southsea Castle 8, Albert Road 14, the Ryde hovercraft terminal 15, Canoe Lake 17 and the University of Portsmouth 24. A hovercraft hop to the Isle of Wight makes an easy family day trip. Gunwharf Quays outlet shopping and the Spinnaker Tower are about 30 minutes along the promenade. Victorious, a large music festival, is held on Southsea Common in late summer. By car: Fratton Park stadium 6 minutes, Eastney beach 7 and the Historic Dockyard, home of Nelson's flagship Victory, 10.
Getting Around:
Portsmouth and Southsea rail station is a 30-minute walk, with direct services to London Waterloo. The international ferry port is 8 minutes by car, and the M27 and A3(M) are the main highways into the city.
