Mountain Vista Guesthouse Shkafi

Our stay at Mountain Vista Guest House was one of the highlights of our time in Albania, and we already miss it. We arrived after completing the Valbona–Theth hike, tired but excited, and couldn’t have asked for a warmer welcome. The hosts, a lovely couple with a sweet baby daughter, were incredibly kind, relaxed, and genuinely hospitable. They made us feel at home immediately and were always happy to share recommendations and helpful tips about Theth and the surrounding area. The guest house itself is absolutely beautiful. The rooms are simple, authentic, and full of mountain charm, with gorgeous wooden interiors, fresh white bedding, practical storage and hangers, and stunning views of the surrounding peaks. Everything was spotlessly clean and very well cared for. The shared bathrooms deserve a special mention. Shared facilities can sometimes be a compromise when travelling, but not here. They were exceptionally clean, the water pressure was excellent, and there was plenty of hot water. We genuinely couldn’t fault them. One of our favourite details was the fresh mountain spring water. The tap water is drinkable, and there’s even a beautiful spring-fed fountain just outside the property where guests can fill their bottles. It’s a small thing, but it adds so much to the authentic mountain experience. The location is fantastic, especially if you’re arriving from Valbona. After a long day of hiking, we were grateful that the guest house is positioned near the end of the trail, meaning there wasn’t much further to walk. It sits slightly above the centre of Theth, giving it wonderful panoramic views over the valley and mountains. The uphill walk is worth it for the scenery alone, though guests who prefer not to walk may want to arrange transport. The hosts seemed very helpful with local logistics and transport options. The food was another highlight.

Perfekte Lage am Trail, ca 25 min bis ins Dorf zur Bushaltestelle. Super Aussicht, ganz neu renoviert. Gemütlich eingerichtete Zimmer mit viel hellem Holz. Sehr bequeme Betten mit gemütlicher Bettwäsche. Nette Gastgeber! Das Frühstück sah super aus und reichlich (ich selbst musste wegen Magenproblemen leider verzichten). Außerdem gab es leckeren Kaffee. Super Preis-Leistungsverhältnis.

The lady who runs the place, Suela, is just lovely and tended to our every need. She greeted us by first name throughout and was just very hospitable. The views from the property are fantastic. The guesthouse is about a kilometre along the Valbona trail so you join it quite high up. In addition to breakfast, you can actually get lunch, dinner and drinks here too, which will save you 1km+ hikes down into other places. Keep in mind you'll need to get a taxi from where the bus drops you (1.3km, 150m elevation, rough road), and the taxis will try to exploit you for €20-30 (we didn't pay out of moral obligation). But everything in Theth seems overpriced.

This is a very basic stay, especially considering the price. The guesthouse building is extremely noisy and you can hear the movement and voices of all other rooms, not to mention the crazy loud door handles. The shower is not separated in the bathroom and the floor is flat so the whole room floods. No wardrobe or bathrobe as stated in listing. In fact, the room had no bedside table, cupboard, drawer, or even a hook to hang a towel on.
