Cold Spring

We had an absolutely fantastic time at Cold Springs, where we spent 3 nights. On the first night we arrived pretty late (around 8 PM), and our host offered to cook us dinner for a very fair price without prior agreement. Dinner was done within an hour and tasted absolutely amazing. Two of us eat fish, but one of us is a vegetarian and she accommodated all of us. Breakfast was prepared at whichever time we requested in the morning, and our host even prepared slightly different breakfast each morning. Our host was very accommodating and extremely helpful, and we felt she went above and beyond to give us the best stay possible (which we had). We had the balcony room, so we woke up every morning to a gorgeous view of the mountains and the garden. We could drink water straight from the tap, which saved us a lot of time and money from having to buy water. Since we spent our three days hiking all day, we needed a LOT of water. The location is absolutely fantastic for hiking, with several trails close to the house + tons more just 15-20 minutes away by car. Finally, the host has the sweetest little dog. He is an old man, so he might bark when he first sees you (as old dogs do), but just let him have a sniff. He might run in front of you and stop, but turns out he just wants pets and attention. Absolutely the sweetest boy. We will definitely be staying here again next time we are in Theth, and we will be recommending this location and our host to our friends and family!

Loved everything about it. Just be aware that the road to the property is made of gravel, and not asphalt. But if you drive carefully it isn’t really a problem. We drove up and down several times with our Mazda CX-5 which has only a front-wheel drive.

The view and location were great. Also the hostess, Rita, took great care of us, we felt right at home.

The house and the room, the outdoors and the views were truly beautiful. Even though the stay had no vegan breakfast served, the hostess was very keen on taking care of us at least somehow, and on troubleshooting problems, we felt that care. We liked the home-like vibe of the place, it was cosy. Feel of an inn. The wifi was really good, I was able to do some remote work. The water from the tap was drinkable, good.

Vegan breakfast was not an option. The bed in our room had footboard, that can be uncomfortable for taller people. The place was chilly inside (16 C)(end of April), but we got a heater to our room. There was some awkwardness to the whole experience of stay, it's even hard to pinpoint or describe. Maybe because of familiarity and home-feel, but at the same time not really.

It’s a nice place to stay, beautiful location if you don’t mind being remote and are not in a rush to do your hiking early morning avoiding heat. Towel provided, nice dinner.

It’s far from Theth. It takes 20min by car from the centre of Theth so consider this when you plan your hiking. €20 for taxi from Theth. Walk about 50 min. Bathroom is shared, shower had cold water only, even though I reported it and was reasured the boiler was switched on nonstop. It wasn't, the shower was still cold later in the evening and still cold in the morning. The bathroom floor was flooded the whole time. It took too long to be served breakfast, only one person served food, while the owner was cooking. I was on my own and ignored, the focus was on groups. I ended up asking for food, and even went to get it myself, otherwise I would’ve left very late or hungry. I’m not sure about the choices of breakfast advertised such as American or Italian. I wasn’t asked anything, I was given an omelette, melon, a piece of cake. If you have allergies, watch out, the omelettes had cream in it. Not possible to sleep with a window open and have blinds down at the same time. Not sure who designed the bedroom!? If you close the window to shut the blinds not to be woken up by sunrise, you'd boil in the summer heat. The bed side light was for decoration only because it had no switch.
