Excellent stay in a wonderful hotel.

The resort is set in mature tropical gardens with spacious accommodation hidden amongst the lush vegetation. Breakfast was fantastic a large choice freshly prepared and cooked, complimented by a platter of fruits, fresh juice and a hot drink, we also ate at the restaurant most nights as it was so good. But what really sets RUMAH KAYU apart is the wonderful staff, from reception to the restaurant staff, gardeners and house keeping team.

Beautiful surrounding nature. Very peaceful and tranquil

Rumah Kayu resort was a very nice resort with traditional balinese style wooden houses. The surrounding area was exactly what we had in mind and was very close to the natural beauty of Ubud.

Housekeeping took a while to answer to some requests and had to be reminded more than once over WhatsApp, however this was minor.

The food and drinks were good, property is quite, staff is friendly and helpful

The prices, food and drinks is expensive and you get charged tax with every meal you have, by the time we checked out our bill was ridiculous because we paid tax for breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks

Beautiful tranquil jungle escape

Such a beautiful property, the gardens and nature surrounding it are so well maintained. We saw gardeners all day every day. The staff were so nice and were so attentive to us and our young daughter. We had a romantic candle lit dinner and Reyan couldn’t do any more for us. The chef came to talk to us personally and we felt so well looked after. The accommodation was stunning, so clean and quiet.

It’s not actually in ubud ! We quite liked being outside of ubud but we didn’t realise it was. 20-40 min car journey.

Inarguably much better than on photos, an oasis. Mind, highly professional and available staff. Literally all needs were met within minutes.

This was my first time in Bali and in Indonesia, I saw this is a repetitive pattern, reason for which I didn’t want to compromise the overall rating, but cuisine won’t make you dream. But again, this was the case overall and is not necessarily referred to this resort. Wifi needs a check, even if the router was places in my suite, it was weak and several interruptions occurred. There’s almost no noise isolation, you can clearly hear neighbouring guests and even birds. Not a big deal but if you are sensitive to noises like I am, you may consider having a pair of earbuds. If you aren’t, you will enjoy the birds’ sound.

A great stay and the staff were excellent.

I look for locations that are away from the hustle but close enough that you can taxi there in 20 mins. This hotel provided exactly that.

The only place to eat is the hotel unless you’re on a moped.

Great place to stay near Waterfall area

We like the vibes and feel of the hotel. Staff were lovely and helpful as well.

Other guests can be very noisy at late night and staff didn't say anything to them. During my stay, I had to confront one of my neighbour because they were having late night drinks on their balcony and talk SO loud it woke us up from our slumber. Since the rooms are made by wood, we can hear their steps and voices very loudly.

A rat in our room ruined our experience

A rat was in our room on the first night (it even climbed on us while we were sleeping) Despite informing the staff and a rat trap being set up, the issue was not resolved We had to leave the hotel earlier than planned due to the situation Although we appreciated the 50% refund, the incident was too distressing to overlook

They spoiled us with so much kindness and care, from the peaceful breakfasts to the special little gestures for my partner’s birthday…something we’ll never forget. Surrounded by nature, it’s the perfect place to disconnect from the noise and reconnect with what really matters. We even started our 2 AM hike to Mount Batur from here, and coming back to the stillness of the resort and the smiles of the staff was just what we needed. If you’re looking for a place with soul—honest, intimate, and full of Balinese charm—this is it. We’d come back a thousand times over. Huge thanks to all the legends we met at Rumah Kayu. This hidden gem will stay in our hearts forever. Your warmth, kindness, and good vibes made this place unforgettable. We’ll carry you with us, always! 🙏🏼

Incredibly beautiful & relaxing spot!! It feels like you’re living in the forest 🌳 The room/cabin was huge & had everything we needed. Food was amazing, we really appreciated having breakfast included. The pool spot was an absolute dream. The staff went above & beyond - always welcoming with a smile. The hospitality was beautiful. Absolutely loved it here, would highly recommend. It is on the outskirts of Ubud which we really loved because it was quiet and surrounded by so much local beauty but just something to be mindful of as you’ll need to travel through traffic into the city for “touristy” sites.

Small secluded paradise

We were thoroughly impressed by this property. Beautiful grounds - the property felt very private. Nice landscaping, good lighting, very clean. Staff was absolutely lovely and always available to assist via What's App. Great food at the restaurant, and we were even lucky enough with our timing to able to get a yoga lesson one morning before breakfast for free. Please note - it is not in Ubud proper - for us this worked very well as it was a bit quieter where the property was; but for some people they may want to be closer. A/C worked extremely well in our room.

Serious sanitary issues

I stayed at this hotel with 2 other friends (3 people in total) we all got food poisoning “bali belly” and had to call the doctor. After the first night, we had dinner at the hotel’s restaurant and I got severly sick from what I ate (broccoli or quesadilla, but I suspect it was the broccoli which was boiled in tap water) I had to call the doctor who administrated an IV drip to calm the symptoms. The hotel accepted to cover my medical bill. At this time it was only me who got sick. The second day after I got sick (2 nights at the hotel) my boyfriend also got sick, and started having very high fever and vomitied. After consultation with the doctor, Iv drip and blood test, it resulted it was from a bacterial inflection. I want to mention that we only drank and ate at the hotel, since he stayed with me while I was sick. So he didn’t leave the hotel in the past 48h. In our last day (After 5 nights) my friend also got sick (the one who had the other room in my booking) and vomited 3 times. The hotel called the doctor who came and confirmed it was food poisoning again. There are serious hygene / sanitary problems at this hotel and restaurant. From 3 people, all 3 of us got sick. We were always very careful with what we ate and drank. Only washed our teeth with bottled water, no tap water. Always used handgel to disinfect, etc. We also stayed 5 nights in Ulwuatu and 4 nights in Canggu prior to coming to this hotel and we had no belly problems. Concluding this message, I want to say that staying at this hotel not only impacted our vacation, but also our health. We couldn’t enjoy our vacation in Ubud at all because of their poor sanitary situation. And also, we wanted to change to accommodation, but we couldn’t, because everyday one of us felt very sick and couldn’t get out of the bed.

The only downside was the lack of a nearby store. The closest one was a 15-minute walk away, which could be inconvenient for those who prefer quick access to shopping. However, there was a car to take you the Ubud City Center a few times a day.

Lovely gardens and relaxing setting. We particularly enjoyed the free shuttle as the distance from the resort to main Ubud was quite far- especially with traffic. The staff were lovely and always had smiles on their faces. We also loved the pudgy koi fish !!

It is important to note that the rooms did not feel super private / soundproof. Additionally, the breakfast is not a buffet- there is a good range of options but we often preferred to eat in main Ubud.

Our room and facilities were amazing, all the staff were incredibly friendly. I had forgotten to reconfirm our airport pick up before arriving but the driver was there waiting for us as arranged months earlier. Food was AMAZING, definitely recommend the cooking class, a highlight of our trip!
