Misleading Accessibility and an Unfortunate Lesson in Hospitality

The city itself is beautiful, with a rich history and many pleasant, walkable areas.

This stay resulted in one of the most disgraceful episodes of my thirty years of travelling. I have limited mobility — I walk with a cane, though I travel actively and independently. The accommodation description was misleading regarding accessibility. In reality, the property is located on a steep uphill slope, making it physically impossible for me to reach the entrance with my luggage. No assistance was offered. Any refund was refused. I had to book another hotel at additional cost. What truly distinguishes this place, however, is not the lack of accessibility, but the attitude of the hosts. In written correspondence, I was told that Genoa is a “vertical city”, that there are “no flat areas anywhere”, and that if one has difficulty walking, Genoa is simply not a suitable city to visit. This is both offensive and untrue. I reached another hotel on foot with luggage without issue and walked many kilometres along Genoa’s beautiful promenades with ease. It is regrettable to leave a city of such beauty and history with the lingering impression of having been personally lectured on where people with health limitations should walk — an impression created not by the city itself, but by hosts who failed to provide an accurate description of their property.

Having to check in before 7 PM. Too many decorative items in the room not having enough space for personal items. Having to pay 20 Euros per night for parking. Stairs to clime. Self service continental breakfast.

The accommodation served its purpose but glad we only stayed one night

Location to the train station was good. The bed was comfortable. Washing machine available.

When we arrived, host met us and told us he had given our ground floor room to someone else. They then prepared another room which was up a couple of flights of stairs. I felt as though the room wasn't as big as the one originally booked. Washing machine was available, there was room towels left in there and there was no dryer. Breakfast was underwhelming. The packaged croissant was stale; the cereal was solid in the container. Not enough milk to go around. Yoghurt was out of date. We asked for an 11am checkout and was told we could have 10.30am. The host and cleaners virtually kicked us out. When we told them about the yoghurt they couldn't care less.

The 2 rooms were comfortable

That it is an apartment and not hotel. There were works on the floor, meaning access was through the 2nd floor. Breakfast was packed meals and not fresh.

Good location and friendly welcome.

Extremely friendly and helpful welcome. Directions to the property were very good and clear with friendly WhatsApp communication. Bed was very comfortable and the shower was lovely. Good amenities in the room. Location great for getting around and everything withing walking distance. Across the street from the station so no chance of getting lost.

I wouldn't consider this a hotel. Self service breakfast room wasn't to my taste, no privacy, you would have to sit at a table with others so I gave this a miss (personal preference is to eat alone). A very steep hill to get to the property so be advised if mobility is an issue for you. Also, noisy neighbours late at night for 2/3 nights of my stay disturbed my sleep as did the proximity to the breakfast room.

We couldn't stay in the end due to no lift at ground floor! The owner said he would not charge us but no refund as yet.

Great stay in Genoa right by the train station

Great location close to the train station, the port and the old town. Everything was well organised and communicated by the excellent host. The walk up to the property was fine, as there is a path the whole way, not far at all. We loved the room and the beautiful furnishings. We had the triple room, bathroom was also gorgeous, especially the shower.

Great location

A bright clean bedroom ,two minute's walk from a train station and the airport bus stop . We walked to the old port and historical Centre in ten minutes. The accommodation does have a private bathroom but its not en-suite .

My only complaint is that the pillow was not comfortable .

A Disaster

The manager was very helpful He came to the railway station and actually carried our luggage

The property bid on top of a very steep hill. Then to get to it you had to climb a steeper hill Once inside you had to climb 2 floors THIS IS NOT A PROPERTY FOR OKDER PEOPLE MY WIFE SOENT TGE WHOLE DAYS IN THE ROOM AS TGE STEEPNESS PREVENTED HER FROM LEAVING THE ROOM

Better left to young, fit travellers

Beautifully decorated and has everything you need.

The property is situated up a very steep hill from the train station and then two flights of stairs. My wife is disabled, so it was extremely challenging for her to get to the accommodation. We weren’t able to leave our luggage beyond 1pm, which meant we needed to pay to leave it at another hotel. This meant lumping all our cases down the steep hill, up another flight of stairs to their reception & then back again when going to the airport, as no parking available outside. This really was a faff (especially in the rain) that I wouldn’t want to go through again. If you’re elderly, disabled or are travelling with young kids, this place probably isn’t for you.

Great shower, informative host

First, I was late and held up the host quite a while (due to ferry issues beyond my control), but the host was still polite, he waited, and showed me everything in detail. He sent me details of Genoa attractions amd information as well. The room was very well decorated, comfy beds, large, nice view, well stocked breakdast, kettle and access to kitchen. Air con worked a treat. Easy to find from the station or the Metro station. An absolutely gorgeous shower with various jets and water fall systems.

The private bathroom, although great, was across a smal shared area (shared with only 1 other room).

Excellent location for those planning on day trips visiting Many of the great cities of the Cinque Terre region plus day

Location was superb. Minutes from train station. Every morning had 2 excellent cappuccino’s for 1.2 Euros each at small coffee shop 20 meters from the station.

No elevator. But Domenico the owner brought up 1 suitcase when we arrived and also brought same one down when we left.

Had to climb 3 flights of stairs as there was no lift or elevator to that floor. The property owner Dominico was very helpful in helping with luggage on departure day, for which we’re grateful.

Fabulous rococo style. Central, comfortable with a wonderful view. Railway station below, but not even a train whistle disturbed me. Owner used WhatsApp to advise of things to to - very helpful during my stay - hopefully a longer visit next time.
