Granary Cottage - Troutbeck

Nice quiet location and interesting building

Thermostat situation was confusing at times - the hot water only seemed to come on when 'boost' was pressed. Not the hosts fault, but there was an 8 hour power cut one of the days of our stay, which was unfortunate

the large bed was very comfortable the house was very well equipped

we should have ensured that we had the code the day before we arrived the internal stairs down to the bedroom are very steep and very narrow. if you are not sound in wind and limb you will have problems. we left our suitcase upstairs.

Location was great. It had an old tea rooms across the road which sold great coffee and home made soup. Was out in the countryside so nice and quiet.

Musty smell in the house not a lot of natural light. No soap in the bathroom.

The 17th century granery converted to housing has plenty of character in a fairly historical place with a central lakes location with plenty of walks around with a central hub of Windermere very close by. It's the perfect location for me, and if you are willing to sacrifice modern comforts, you are rewarded with a week without distractions in a stunning valley with plenty of sights and walks within less than an hours drive anywhere in the lakes. With a top-notch tea room just over the road and cheapest ANYWHERE in the lakes. It's criminal that this place exists. I also had to call the owners for an issue that was promptly solved. The best place I've personally stayed in the lakes.

The shower is very small but works perfectly. Aside from the obvious ultra modern amenities, it's part of the old-time charm of the place. Parking might be an issue during busier times as it's on street parking but not in front of the residence you're staying at.
