We loved Taigh Mairi. Great to have a spacious property for all the family to have their own space, and the large kitchen and separate dining room was very useful. We've been to the Uists several times, but Grimsay was a lovely new part to visit. We enjoyed the quiet road around Grimsay for walks and running, and it was very convenient to just be 10 mins drive from Balivanich with its two supermarkets and fast EV charging point. The cakes/bakes honesty box at the bottom of the drive is a delightful treat!Although this property is very close to the tidal areas, sea lochs and lochens, and there isn't actually a beach within walking distance (it's hard to tell on google maps). However, there are several sandy beaches nearby - Cula beach is 14 mins drive, for example. We loved RSPB Balranald in North Uist (great to have 24hr toilets and vending machines next to the campsite there), and enjoyed the exhibitions at the Loch Maddy arts centre. Further away, the beaches at Kildonan and Kilpheder are spectacular. The cafe at the Kildonan center even has gluten free/vegan cakes, which was a bonus!(note: if you have an EV, charging in the lower part of South Uist is challenging (all the fast chargers were broken when we visited), so you need to charge at Balivanich, Loch Maddy or Kirkebost - a bit of a stretch if you are staying further away.)
