Lews Castle

Great setting in its extensive grounds & overlooking Stornoway town & harbour & very good location with easy car access and pleasant walk into the town. The refurb to provide hotel rooms on the upper floors has been done to a high standard so very comfortable plus access to public ground floor rooms including lounge and morning room with great view. The Woodlands Cafe, also on the ground floor serves excellent breakfasts and very helpful that it is open from 8.00 am for hotel guests. Also very convenient to have the wonderful museum immediately adjacent. Christina was great - she couldn’t have been more welcoming, friendly & helpful & all the cafe staff we met were friendly & efficient.

It’s a small quibble but we’d have very much liked to have a couple of armchairs in our room, which was certainly large enough to accommodate them. The downstairs lounge was a comfortable place to read but that was a bit of a trek

We liked the quietness and serene setting of Lews Castle, and its proximity to the town.

The fact that we were allocated a room for a disabled person. The toilet without a lid was disconcerting.

Would have preferred a sheet as well as the comforter. Basic coffee machine would have been great.

Room was spacious.

They describe themselves a self-catering, yet there was only a kettle and coffee machine, no kitchenette, fridge, not even a table and chairs. Access to my second floor room was via a winding staircase.
