Poor wifi

Poor wifi connection on the 2nd floor room. Not acceptable for business guests. The external light of the hotel is directed directly straight towards the room where I slept and three was no way to prevent it lightning the room during whole night. The hotel should think more about the guests than external visibility.

Great, I really do recommend this hotel.

This hotel is immaculate in every way. The room was comfortable, clean, well equipped, the staff were all lovely and happy, and the food was first class. It is located 5 minutes walk from the lake, and Sachseln is a very nice town, Good value, I recommend.

Gasthaus Engel was a very nice place to stay, and is within walking distance of the train station.

We have passed through Sachseln on the train several times on our way down to the Jungfrau region of Switzerland. It is one of those places where we have said that we should stop sometime. Well this time we did. It is a lovely village on the Sarnersee (Lake Sarnen) with some very interesting history. We learned all about Bruder Klaus (Nicholas of Flue) and how he was instrumental in mediating peace between the 4 city and 4 forest cantons in 1481 to stabilize the core of what we now call Switzerland. Gasthaus Engel was a very nice place to stay, and is within walking distance of the train station. The rooms are small, typical of small family-owned European hotels, but certainly adequate, very clean, and include a nice breakfast. The staff is very good to work with and tolerant of my broken German (they speak English reasonably well, but are appreciative of an attempt to communicate in the local language). They have a gourmet restaurant there with inside and outside seating, and excellent food and service. The restaurant staff was very accommodating even on an evening when they were very busy. We would certainly stay and eat there again.

Dad & daughter road trip

Location was a very pleasant surprise, the village is gorgeous and a very short walk to the lake. Everything I’ve seen in Switzerland is pristine, and this property is no exception. Breakfast was perfect for us. Didn’t try the restaurant so can’t comment.

Would expect 1 m² place more to comfortably open and empty a suitcase. Not a problem at all.

Really nice

Location was nice and close to the lake. Breakfast was really good. Staff was really nice. Clean and big room. Bathroom was a bit "old fashioned" but clean and usable. Free parking was really convenient.

The restaurant seems to be awesome, unfortunately we didn't pick the good dates and it was closed. We will have to come back :-) Otherwise, we suspect the room can be a bit noisy depending on other guest or if there's a lot of traffic, but we didn't had such issue during our stay.

Flexible staff; when we were late for breakfast the first day, they still offered to make us a sandwich.

Very friendly and helpful staff, a real pleasure. Good selction of food (plus the gourmet restaurant which I did not try).

The hotel restaurant is very good and I would recommend staying there just to have dinner. There is a good choice of interesting dishes and the staff are very friendly. Well worth a visit.

Nice guesthouse in a wonderful location

Very friendly staff, a warm welcome! The owners gave us a lot of useful local information. Great location - only a short distance from Sarnersee and Sachseln railway station. All shops and amenities are nearby. Plenty of convenient free parking outside the hotel. Comfortable, quiet room. Very nice breakfast.

Sadly we didn't get a chance to try the restaurant, which has excellent reviews - but is closed on Sunday and Monday evenings!

Sauber, freundliche Kommunikation, einfache Abwicklung, Lage

Frühstück war sehr dünn in Sachen Auswahl und Menge. Qualität der Produkte jedoch sehr gut. Die Hauptstrasse liegt vor dem Haus und der eine oder andere könnte dies stören da die Autos klar hörbar sind

Zentraler Ort für Ausflüge in die Berge und Städte

Frühstück absolut ausreichend. Terrasse angenehm zu sitzen. Abendessen sehr gut aber preislich sehr gehoben.

Zimmer waren sehr warm. Lage zur Hauptstrasse hin, daher war ein Öffnen der Fenster kaum möglich - nur zw. 1 und 4 Uhr. Jedoch war ein Lüfter im Zimmer - lief auch die ganze Nacht - und Ohrstöpsel lagen auch bereit🤭
