Our stay at the villa in Tuscany was an absolute dream — surrounded by stunning scenery and nestled within a working olive grove that felt like stepping back in time. The historic charm of the property and its breathtaking grounds made it a true retreat from the world. I only wish we could have stayed longer to soak in every peaceful, sun-drenched moment
The only drawback was an event at the Montessori down the road, which brought crowds and briefly blocked access. A little heads-up would have been nice, but in the end, it wasn’t a big issue and didn’t take away from our wonderful stay.

Wonderful view over the city as we had breakfast on the loggia. Very relaxing location.
The ancient steps up to the front door.

Fabulous unique old property with a lot of heart. The owners are great and the breakfast is taken on the undercover balcony overlooking the entire valley. Simply stunning.

The best place I have ever stayed in Italy, such beautiful well kept grounds, authentically Italian which is exactly what I wanted. The owners were so friendly, we felt at home immediately! Gorgeous views and a super relaxing stay.
The only thing we were sad about was the pool wasn’t filled and it was super hot at the time. But the owners were kind about it and explained straight away why it was unable to be filled. We ended up finding a nice hidden gem of a swim spot a 10 minute walk up the mountain, which we wouldn’t have found if the pool was filled so that was a positive from it:)

They provided a Fantastic breakfast, extended almost posh English style in a very charming room. The tables were on the balcony with a nice view. You get what you see, an almost anciest building with lots of stairs and great garden. The kids especially liked the pool, jumping off the walls. Nice and communicative hosts and lots of freedom during our stay.
We had the Tower (Torre) and the airco was not on when we arrived. I was 32 degrees inside and the airco could not get it cooled down quick enough. But having said this, it was a room with a stunning view!

Loved the welcome, brilliant room number 1 which suited our teenage children nicely, loved hearing classical music, space to chill in the lounge or the garden or terrace. Enjoyed the self service breakfast and then a quick trip to Florence
Nothing it was very homely and suited our needs

This is a fabulous villa located in the Tuscan hills....it is absolutely beautiful and the owner and family members were so kind, thoughtful and accommodating. The grounds, property, pool and breakfast was spectacular! And just a 20 min train ride to Florence.
You have to want a "back in time" serene experience....because there is no TV and limited wifi. For me..that is just what I needed!
Just a lil challenging "getting there"....

A Dream Stay – Peaceful, Elegant, and Truly Unforgettable
Staying at Villa Rucellai was nothing short of magical. Nestled in the Tuscan hills, this historic villa offered the perfect blend of old-world charm and modern comfort. The ambience is serene and breathtaking—waking up to panoramic views, birdsong, and the soft Tuscan light was an experience in itself.
The rooms were impeccably clean, spacious, and thoughtfully decorated, retaining their classic character while providing all the comfort we needed. The common spaces, from the garden to the pool area, were beautifully maintained and added to the peaceful atmosphere.
Breakfast each morning was a highlight—delicious, fresh, and beautifully presented with local breads, cheeses, fruits, and pastries, served in a lovely setting that made it feel like a private retreat.
The hospitality was beyond exceptional. The hosts were warm, generous, and attentive without ever being intrusive. They went out of their way to make our stay special, offering local recommendations and genuine conversation that made us feel like treasured guests rather than just visitors.
This is more than a place to stay—Villa Rucellai is an experience. It’s a place to slow down, to savor beauty, and to reconnect with the joy of travel. We left feeling rested, inspired, and already planning our return.
Highly recommend for couples, families, or anyone seeking an authentic and soul-soothing escape in Tuscany.

Nothing good
This must be the worst worst experience ever in my life. I left two hours after I had arrived with the knowledge of my money not coming back. 1, the room was smelly , so smelly that you could not ignore. 2, all facilities were old , older than me which makes noise. 3, the most ridiculous thing was I was required to come back to the hotel no later than 11pm!!! Even my mother would not say that anymore since I turned 18. Who do they think they are? By the way, this hotel is not located in the center, but somewhere in the hills. I understand that they could have some rules like no smoking or no sex outside...however, an 11pm curfew is definitely not acceptable. Besides, this was not mentioned at all in the introduction about the hotel. Not at all!!! If I had known it before I booked it, I would definitely not NOT choose this one. Anyway, too bad. TOO bad. And like I have been robbed. 270euros ' lesson on booking website.

Our stay at this hotel was deeply disappointing from the start. Even though we booked both rooms under the same name, they split us up on opposite sides of the hotel with no explanation. We had to drag our luggage up and down countless stairs without any help or access to elevators.
The staff was not only unhelpful and unfriendly—they actually yelled at us during one interaction. The lack of courtesy and basic hospitality was astonishing and ruined any chance of a pleasant visit.
Breakfast was equally bad: extremely limited choices, poor quality, and not nearly enough to satisfy even modest expectations. It felt hastily thrown together with little care.
The hallways smelled terrible, and that stench stayed with us every time we moved through the hotel. The water pressure in the shower was terrible, and the hot water ran out after about a minute—completely unacceptable.
To top it all off, there was no Wi-Fi, despite it being clearly advertised. In this day and age, that’s a major failure.
Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else. This hotel does not value its guests and fails to provide even the most basic standards of service and comfort.

Amazing place with great pool for swimming and sunbathing

The building itself is magnificent, and the owner was very nice. The grounds are lovely. We enjoyed the living room and the loggia. Breakfasts were plentiful.
The road to the villa is not for the faint of heart; it is mostly an unpaved road with only a few places where two-way traffic was comfortable. The villa, itself, is dark, without sufficient lighting, and more railings are needed. We didn't use the pool, but it was green with algae.

One of the most beautiful hotels we have ever stayed! The villa and gardens are absolutely gorgeous. The room was very nice and comfortable too, very spacious and tastefully decorated. It was very cool inside, while outside was 32°. We immediately felt at home, we were welcomed by Eleonora, one of the sisters running this family hotel. The sisters and staff are all so nice and helpful. Breakfast and other meals we had there were fantastic. A gem of a place! Ideal to relax before or after visiting Florence. The cool swimming pool is a definite plus during hot days.
Everything was great!

If you like something that is authentic it does not come in a better wrapping. Very friendly staff that will do everything to accommodate you. Surprisingly they run a small family restaurant that is filled with love and enthusiasm and has really good food, so there is no real reason to go to the city and drive on the very narrow roads in the dark when you get back. The hotel also runs their own vine making and olive oil factory. Although there is a busy road and train tracks it is very silent during night time. We would like to come back.
If you need to be constantly online and watch the news this is probably not the place for you. Poor or no internet in the room (although working in the main lobby) and no tv in the room. Phone connection is working. But to get a few days more of less off grid is highly recommended. Also, this may not be the place for people with a walking disability as there are many stairs and not all of them are even. The place was not known to the car's navigation system and although we asked local people we could not find it easily. The signs are only on the gate and very small and not easily visible. Tip: Use Apple map, it has the right location.

Amazing property- so much history and great to see it still being so lovingly run by The Rucellai family. Beautiful gardens, exceptional client care by Eleanora and Benedetta- nothing was too much trouble. Our room was very clean, a very comfortable bed and very authentic furnishings. The dinner, cooked and served in the on-site EleBene restaurant, was delicious and so too was the homemade wine and olive oil. We can’t praise Villa Rucellai enough. Thank you.

This is a villa dating back to the 1200s. Just the feeling staying there is unique and exciting. Breakfast was exceptional! The property and its grounds reflect that old glory and you get to spend the night in it! It is a very interesting property to stay in, a bit daunting at night but in the morning light all seems so wonderfully beautiful. We only had one night and loved the experience!
The construction work right outside our only window could be avoided. Some of the room amenities could be updated.

The garden was amazing and the overall athmosphere was so beautiful! The house was historic and we had such a pleasure to stay in this place for two nights. Breakfast was good, a little bit of everything. Family owned restaurant was also something we would recommend anytime, both food and service was absolutely perfect. Location is convenient when travelling with a car, Prato was 10 min away where it was an easy and quick train ride to Firenze. Would love to come back and stay for longer.

We loved the fact that it is an older Italian villa with history. I loved the rooms, beautiful ornate ceilings in the bedroom and other rooms as well as ornate painting of the upper walls in places. The balcony has amazing views over the surrounding hills. We were greeted by Giovanni who was so helpful and even showed us the olive factory.
The road from Prato to the villa is mostly single track, meaning that somebody has to reverse to a passing place. However all the traffic was slow and happy to move to a suitable place to pass.

Stunning villa, a glorious combination of Renaissance grandeur and relaxation. Breakfasts and sunsets in the loggia were bliss.
The villa is quite a long way out of Prato, down a busy single track lane. A car and a confident driver is fairly essential.

Gorgeous location and the breakfast was the best we had anywhere in Italy. Eating out on the balcony overlooking the area is very beautiful. The gardens and olive grove are both ornamental and productive.

The place is magical and beautiful. It is exactly what we expected from the website, actually better. The villa is very special and unique, with a gorgeous garden, a nice pool. The breakfast was delicious, we ate outside with a wonderful view. May be good to know: just a few restaurants in walking distance, a reservation in advance is recommended. Streets are quite narrow, but not a problem. Drinks (wine, water, beer, coke) can be bought from a fridge inside the living room. We had a very good time, thank you!

I was charged twice although when I booked, the site clearly said 'no prepayment'. I showed proof and they said they would check their bank account, even though I had proof from my own bank account statement. Throughout our stay they didn't refund, but asked me to go to my bank and get the IBAN that we paid into. Had to phone them 4 times after our visit to ask for a refund. After a month of waiting for the villa to refund I called Booking.com and was refunded a week later. We liked our stay at the villa, but unfortunately the customer service was totally unacceptable. We should have been refunded straight away and not fobbed off with excuses.
