This lovely old building on the centre of Broadway is full of character and history . For those who are looking for air con, instant internet etc it probably is not for you but for the rest of us who like quirky, individual and very English it a 10. 2 best points are the staff who are quiet frankly brilliant, helpful, kind , funny and friendly and efficient. And the food which is great , the Grill serves unpretentious good dinners , reasonably priced wines and superb puddings . The breakfast was outstanding in quality and , if you wanted, quantity. The bar also serves food and a great selection of cocktails , beers and wines. The hotel is central in the village , your car is wisked away when you arrive and produced for you when you leave , any shopping or outside dinning and drinking is very walkable with ample choices in a beautiful Cotswolds village . Finally it was a special anniversary for us and we had a card and chocolates when we arrived and a cake and were generally made to feel welcome in a very undemonstrative but genuine way. We loved it and will be back.

My husband had wanted to stay here ever since he was a young man. Our expectations were high but unfortunately we were a bit disappointed, mainly in the food, service and the check in process. We wanted to stay in the old part of the building, which we did. The room was spacious but dark. There was no mirror to put on my makeup in the morning or to see myself when drying my hair. Otherwise the room was fine. The bath towels and soap/lotion were amazing. Dinner in the main dining room was a disappointment though. We were given a small table, I asked to be changed, which they did immediately but the larger table close by wasn’t very comfortable. The restaurant was half empty so why they did this to us was unfortunate. The service and food were mediocre. We wanted a cocktail before dinner. My husband’s came several minutes before mine, and when mine arrived, the waiter also brought our glasses of wine at the same time. They both were white wine which I wanted to be served cold so we sent those back. Our food was good but not great, and for the expense, everything should have been great. Would we stay here again? Yes, but we wouldn’t eat in the main dining room. Last year we had eaten in their pub and it was fantastic.

Dining experience was disappointing - chicken not fully cooked (half still bloody), breakfast overcooked. Staff seemed hassled and disorganised. Waitress did not know the difference between fillet and sirloin steak when bringing it to the table. Dining room is quite dark at all times even for breakfast service. I think James needs to pay a visit and refresh standards!

Tried the James Martin Grill. Check-in said that he was in residence for the evening but he did not come out to greet the diners. I wanted the Octopus which was sold out, I went for the Crab followed by fillet steak which were both great. Rather than a desert I went for the £18 cheese board which comprised 5 small pieces of cheese, some sourdough crackers and Branson pickle. No quince jelly which was mentioned on the menu. I asked the waiter for further details on the locally sourced artisan cheeses. After 15 minutes I was told that the blue cheese was a Stilton. (Haha). Finished the meal with a drink in the bar which was table service but I went to the bar myself after 15 minutes wait. The drinks arrived promptly but trying to get a second was equally as hard as the first. In summary a good tourist hotel with quirky features but terrible service

I don’t think we have ever been to such a good hotel for dogs. How lovely to have a comfortable and plush separate dining room to enjoy food with the dogs. How lovely to have the big garden so accessible and what a beautiful hotel. I would recommend it to anyone. I would just like to comment about breakfast. The first morning. Chose a selection for English breakfast. But just because you don’t want tomato and mushroom and hash brown for example, shouldn’t mean that you only get half a plate of food. If you only ask for sausage and beans and Egg then surely give two sausages and a bit more egg. My daughter was hungry after that breakfast. The plates are cold and the brekkie Luke warm. The second morning they gave our tea and coffee to another table and we had to wait ages. The food order came out wrong and there were many people complaining - missing food - forgotten food. The continental breakfast buffet was not replenished once used and there were still guests coming in. The fact that there were 170 guests is no excuse for a seamless breakfast. A hotel breakfast is the mark of a hotel. The drinks are very expensive which is a shame but from a constructive perspective I hope that you take a fresh look at the breakfast experience

Parked car for us, took cases in and up to our room. Check in was easy and room was ready early so we could go straight up. Had dinner in the Grill Room, good.- Weather was bad the following day so spent a relaxing day around the hotel. Visited the Spa in the morning.

I have been to the Lygon arms a few times over the last 20 years and it is getting bigger and bigger and losing its charm. The staff were really nice but for children it is not the most accommodating although the staff tried to help policies prevent it .Everything was clean but our heating didn’t work in our cottage and we were cold.

We paid £25 to have our dog stay with us. Very disappointing to find no dog bed or room or any treats, dog bowl etc. Felt like a complete rip off paying £25 for effectively pure profit for the hotel. We came to celebrate my partner's 30th. We were told our room dated from the mid 1300s and it was pretty special. One slight issue with the shower enclosure door and extractor fan which were reported to reception. Dinner at the grill was nice, but certainly not £100 per head nice. We ate at a nearby pub on our second night and regret not doing so for our first. Not much to do in Broadway beyond a two night stay, so can't recommend staying longer than that. Spa and pool facilities were spacious, clean and relaxing, but to be honest I've seen better for the price. Make no mistake, this hotel is absolutely stooped in history and it feels special, especially in the middle of December! Overall I enjoyed our stay, but probably won't be rushing back.

Stunningly beautiful building and location, but the staff for the most part seem slightly grumpy and not as knowledgeable as I would have expected for a hotel of this caliber and cost. My main point of contention is that there is no priority for hotel guests in the common areas (which are the most beautiful parts of the hotel) we wanted to have a drink in the common area and were not able to get a table until the last night after complaining. For this price tag, there should be accommodations for hotel guests to sit somewhere at some point during their stay. Also before check in they send an email asking if you would like to make a dinner reservation in their restaurant but evidently they don't receive the replies since we arrived with no reservation and I was ping-ponged between the restaurant and the front desk staff to sort it out for myself. All in all it is beautiful but the hotel could be run much better.

This was one of the finest hotels in the world we have stayed at! The staff were highly professional and attentive. The atmosphere was perfection. The decor was sumptuous, cozy and history greeted you in every room. A very romantic escape. The restaurants were amazing both in food and ambiance. The amenities were lovely. Broadway is a hidden gem. The highlight of our Cotswold experience.
