Location was good
Room was tired and very cold.

The hotel was gorgeous, full of history and cosy spaces to sit. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, the room was comfortable and clean it had parking behind, the spa was very relaxing and the breakfast was delicious with lots of choice
The TV didn't work, we only had a couple of channels, we reported it but noone came to fix it and we were charged for the receptionist and for drinks being brought to our table when we ordered at the bar which I wasn't expecting.

The main ground floor areas for comfort were gorgeous, with pleasant of comfy sofas and roaring open fires.
Unfortunately we were placed in the annexe which is heated by a warm air pumped system. This was so noisy we had to move rooms.

Fantastic surroundings and such rich history. Room really comfortable and warm.
The Grill Dining room staff were very efficient and food was of very good standard . Breakfast was ok however, the butter was unsalted and black pudding very hard. There should be a choice of both salted and unsalted butter.
The staff in the bar area were not very attentive. We waited a long time to be acknowledged and eventually the receptionist had to go and find a waiter to serve us. Also some of the lunch food items were missing and arrived once we had finished the meal, despite us bringing this to the staff’s attention as soon as the food arrived.

We liked the back rooms of the hotel reception, breakfast was lovely.
Waiting staff at breakfast were very attentive.
Reception staff where not the most welcoming and on booking out we where not asked how our stay had been, no help with bags to the car.

Exceptionally friendly and warm welcome. Staff were all outstanding.

staff were exceptional. As a woman in my 70's travelling alone, I was shown consideration and help at every turn. Even the young male waiters were lovely offering me magazines to look at as I sat alone at the dinner table.
Honestly I didn't find fault with anything.

The setting is beautiful and the staff are exceptional.
It is in dire need of refurbishment. I didn’t expect to pay that kind of money for a bedroom where the shower dripped, the tiles were broken and the room was tatty. The quality of the food is nowhere near as good as it should be. The James Martin brand is misleading.

We had a very long wait to be seated for dinner- there were 3 groups before us waiting!

Property is beautiful and great location. Room was chilly but heaters supplied.
Check in wasn’t great. I was aware check in was not available till 3. However I did the pre check in in line to say we would be arriving by 12 as we had booked for spa treatment. 3 times I went to see if room was available earlier and was told they would ring me. My daughter asked at 2.50 end it still wasn’t available but would be shortly and they would call me. I waited till nearly 3.30 and went to reception (again) to be told it was ready. A phone call would have been appreciated and I did mention this!

Amazing location and historic building. Old rooms are great.
The toilet in the room was dirty. A staff member struggled to read social cues and overstayed his welcome whilst we tried to enjoy a drink in the bar. We stood waiting to be seated for breakfast for 10 minutes, then service was hard to come by and breakfast was cold (but they took them off the bill thankfully).

The service was exceptional.
Our room was lovely and atmospheric.
Our room was in the main house, and whilst we were expecting the odd creak and general noise, it is fair to say the noise from below and above was more that we were expecting. Also, the secondary glazing did not seem to stop the noise from traffic. So whilst the room was lovely and very atmospheric and the bed was very comfortable - the noise was above what I would have expected and we had a poor night sleep because of this.
Also, breakfast was disappointing - perhaps we were just unlucky that the waietr misheard our order but by the time it was corrected the poached eggs were cold - this was poor as they should have replaced them.
10.0 / 10.0
Ambiance, location and quality of the accommodation.
The restaurant food (except breakfast which was excellent). The Grill and the Tavern were very disappointing.

Spa quite nice, however pool
Missing tiles and needs a refurbishing.
Disappointed. Experience Did not match price or how hotel is marketed.
Chaotic check in had to wait and then told
Room not ready asked to take a seat elsewhere, however no seating available as hotel seems to overbook and fill with non residents. Got to room and then rang to be told
Room ready, so clearly staff did not know what they were doing. Room badly lit and bath had rust around plug controller. Always seemed to be waiting to be served for drinks and then to be seated in restaurants.
Poor food at The Grill.

Hotel ambiance lovely with friendly and attentive staff. Enjoyed our Spa treatments. Excellent dinner, well cooked with high quality ingredients and simply presented. (We’re averse to foams and smears which were thankfully absent) Room wonderfully traditional but bathroom could do with a refurb. Frankly breakfast a little disappointing….service not terribly well organised and food not brilliant. However we treated ourselves to afternoon tea with champagne which was wonderful. It was part of our 50th wedding anniversary weekend where we also took in a play at the Royal Shakespeare in Stratford, and I can’t think of anywhere else other than the Lygon Arms we would rather have stayed.
Bathroom needed refurb and breakfast could have been better. Parking was a bit of a faff.

Location was in the Grill so that was very good however it did take far too long to be served or asked what we would like to eat for breakfast
I think it was 20-30 minutes and then we asked a waiter to come over
Breakfast was very busy when we arrived and the room was full but we got seated in 5/6 minutes
A little chaotic and not sure who was in charge

Situation. Olde worldy. Lay out small private places to sit.
It was cold! Grill was really cold and food was cold. Also rest of hotel looked cosy but was not warm enough

Comfortable and many dog friendly places within hotel. Amazing staff that couldn’t do enough for you.
For the price I paid the up keep of the room I stayed at was not to standard. Chipped tiles in bathroom that were not the best.

From the moment we arrived the staff provided us with an excellent service making us feel very welcome and special. The hotel facilities and environment was also excellent, very clean and comfortable. Food was very good and again service was excellent.

Food was ok
Too busy- not relaxing- no attention to detail and did not feel 'special ' despite costing 'luxury hotel' prices. This was our 4th time at the Lygon Arms over 25 years but we will not go back. Disappointing

Staff excellent, very friendly.
Dog care and inclusion excellent, Doggy dinner good, fresh bowls of water brought to the table, treats everywhere. I chose the hotel because of the room standard for dog owners, and the ability to eat in an elegant setting with your dog. All very good, food lovely, but high expectations not completely met bearing in mind the price.
Lovely setting.
Meal lovely, but pretentiously priced.
Room good though smaller than expected, bathroom fell short of expectations and again pretentiously priced.

I liked the main dining room as it was old and as described, iconic luxury.
I was very disappointed and complained about the accommodation. The annex classic, which I had booked, isn’t actually part of the main hotel and looked like a 1960s office block out the back that you reach after leaving the hotel and passing through the courtyard, so be careful when booking. The hotel has over-extended its size to trade off the well-known name of the hotel, but I imagine it’s only the main hotel and the coach house immediately attached to it that are the ‘iconic luxury’ that guests like me paid a lot of money for and expected. Luckily there was a slightly better room that was still in a new building, that the helpful team at reception were able to move me to, but I still felt rather tricked and disappointed that it wasn’t really the experience advertised on the website. Staff onsite were brilliant though.
