Disappointed. Experience does not match price or how hotel is marketed.
Spa quite nice, however pool
Missing tiles and needs a refurbishing.
Disappointed. Experience Did not match price or how hotel is marketed.
Chaotic check in had to wait and then told
Room not ready asked to take a seat elsewhere, however no seating available as hotel seems to overbook and fill with non residents. Got to room and then rang to be told
Room ready, so clearly staff did not know what they were doing. Room badly lit and bath had rust around plug controller. Always seemed to be waiting to be served for drinks and then to be seated in restaurants.
Poor food at The Grill.

Felt like a pampered and valued customer
Hotel ambiance lovely with friendly and attentive staff. Enjoyed our Spa treatments. Excellent dinner, well cooked with high quality ingredients and simply presented. (We’re averse to foams and smears which were thankfully absent) Room wonderfully traditional but bathroom could do with a refurb. Frankly breakfast a little disappointing….service not terribly well organised and food not brilliant. However we treated ourselves to afternoon tea with champagne which was wonderful. It was part of our 50th wedding anniversary weekend where we also took in a play at the Royal Shakespeare in Stratford, and I can’t think of anywhere else other than the Lygon Arms we would rather have stayed.
Bathroom needed refurb and breakfast could have been better. Parking was a bit of a faff.

Great hotel great food but service needs improving
Location was in the Grill so that was very good however it did take far too long to be served or asked what we would like to eat for breakfast
I think it was 20-30 minutes and then we asked a waiter to come over
Breakfast was very busy when we arrived and the room was full but we got seated in 5/6 minutes
A little chaotic and not sure who was in charge

Might be better in Summer but in November it was cold My room was very small
Situation. Olde worldy. Lay out small private places to sit.
It was cold! Grill was really cold and food was cold. Also rest of hotel looked cosy but was not warm enough

Doggy delights
Comfortable and many dog friendly places within hotel. Amazing staff that couldn’t do enough for you.
For the price I paid the up keep of the room I stayed at was not to standard. Chipped tiles in bathroom that were not the best.

Disappointing- a victim of its own success
Food was ok
Too busy- not relaxing- no attention to detail and did not feel 'special ' despite costing 'luxury hotel' prices. This was our 4th time at the Lygon Arms over 25 years but we will not go back. Disappointing

Beautiful hotel in a great location with excellent service
From the moment we arrived the staff provided us with an excellent service making us feel very welcome and special. The hotel facilities and environment was also excellent, very clean and comfortable. Food was very good and again service was excellent.

convenient
The hotel was very drab & dirty and in need of some serious renovation
Poor value for money
Stayed in a tiny room next to the kitchens roof extractor fans humming all day & evening
Shower over bath was broken
Bathroom was dirty

Good stay with your dog, but pricey
Staff excellent, very friendly.
Dog care and inclusion excellent, Doggy dinner good, fresh bowls of water brought to the table, treats everywhere. I chose the hotel because of the room standard for dog owners, and the ability to eat in an elegant setting with your dog. All very good, food lovely, but high expectations not completely met bearing in mind the price.
Lovely setting.
Meal lovely, but pretentiously priced.
Room good though smaller than expected, bathroom fell short of expectations and again pretentiously priced.

Disappointed to be staying in a 1960s style block out the back of the main hotel- which price certainly didn’t reflect
I liked the main dining room as it was old and as described, iconic luxury.
I was very disappointed and complained about the accommodation. The annex classic, which I had booked, isn’t actually part of the main hotel and looked like a 1960s office block out the back that you reach after leaving the hotel and passing through the courtyard, so be careful when booking. The hotel has over-extended its size to trade off the well-known name of the hotel, but I imagine it’s only the main hotel and the coach house immediately attached to it that are the ‘iconic luxury’ that guests like me paid a lot of money for and expected. Luckily there was a slightly better room that was still in a new building, that the helpful team at reception were able to move me to, but I still felt rather tricked and disappointed that it wasn’t really the experience advertised on the website. Staff onsite were brilliant though.

Lovely weekend away with friends in a stunning historical property.
We loved our room. It was built in the 1600 so the floor was uneven and creaked and the room was dark, however, that added to the atmosphere. Bed was large and extremely comfy. Bar areas had lots of sofas and was very welcoming. Breakfast was lovely with really good coffee.
The only gripe was that the mirrors in the lovely bathroom were so far away over the sink that I couldn't see to put makeup on easily or put my contact lenses in. A separate makeup or magnify mirror which you could get closer too would have helped enormously.

Luxury and comfort in an iconic traditional hotel
Iconic, classy and traditional. Food excellent and staff very pleasant and professional. Spa lovely.
Room was noisy from above, too dark to put make up on in room and shower space very small. Very pricy for what we got.

Breakfast was delicious! Our room was lovely and a great size. The hotel was clean and the staff was so friendly. Fabulous location!
Couldn’t get the tv to work. We reported it but never got fixed.

Bad experience and the place overrated
The location was good, on the main road.
Part of the staff the barman his name was Adam, first, when we arrived in the morning I asked is it possible to have a drink at the bar, he responded in the rudest of fashions, made me feel very uneasy and rather upset, second, when I went to sleep, my husband went downstairs for some air and a drink,, and the barman adam made a very rude and inappropriate comment about le personally, adam the barman said to my husband, and I quote "i bet she's costing you a lot money mate",which made my husband to feel awful. ( my husband even felt like he's pay for some sort of a "call girl, because that's the way the barman put it)The other thing,on this morning, we had breakfast and my husband ordered a Coca-Cola and we've been told we have to pay for it, as not included, which we agree. But like 4 times being reminded of to don't forget to take the bill and pay the bill on our way out (£4.5 per bottle) was too much. There were a few people, part of the staff, very friendly, Alex,Alex,Ben,Lucy,Roger,Paul,Carry,Sophie. But overall experience, was awful, and to don't mention the fact that the bathroom was like freezer, no heat on,and not able to take shower because of the cold. The tap water was like ice,no hot water at all. So,with all this experience, we felt unwelcome, and like people counting how many drinks and what were drinking.

Room excellent overall stay good room for improvement in areas mentioned
Dinner service excellent by Ben , however was told to sit and wait no Matre 'D' at the podium on entrance to the restaurant to seat us , other guests arrived and was seated straight away not an overall good experience at the start of the evening , food good but lukewarm warm tepid for the James Martin lending his name and cooking skills to this restaurant it was not up to standard better systems of service needs to be in place I know I am in the same industry be it at the top of my game serving Royalty so was a little bit frustrated to have 5 different servers come to the table !!!
The Bar area near to the Russell Room was very poor two guys standing at either end of the bar on touch screens ,full-time young girl behind the bar training another member of staff new on a Saturday night the busiest night in the week unacceptable , was told it was table service waited 15 minutes for a G&T and a cider which was lukewarm warm totally unacceptable , girl ignored us when we went to the bar and went off with the trainee to get two buckets of ice again unacceptable mise en place should be done before opening and training definitely not when you are open , customers are not guniea pigs !!!! an American couple sitting next to us also was astounded by their lack of service the Management really need to review this and the young girl behind the bar the trained one is in the wrong profession very surly no personality and didn't even acknowledge us when we stood at the bar ,didn't even indicate it was table service only that came from the guy on the touch screen , despite taking our order first , after a lady guest came and ordered a glass of red wine after us and was served straight away go figure this needs to be totally over hauled and definitely not table service on a Saturday evening .

Overpriced stay.
The breakfast was good.
The room was so dark, we could barely see. I think they gave us the worst room on the property. The tub shower was without a shower curtain, so basically one flooded the whole bathroom while taking a shower. Also bathroom looked old and could use repair.

This was our third stay over the years, overall the total package did not give value for money.
Breakfast, for me continental was adequate to good, but my wife the full cooked was poor quality.
Fully cooked breakfast was poor quality. the price was too high for that served.

Fantastic location and great ambiance
Needs more fans in rooms and plug sockets only 3 in our room. Breakfast was amazing except the vegetarian sausages which actually were vegetable rolls .

Location and building beautiful . Let down hugely by service. Lack of attention to detail in room.
Location excellent. The building itself is beautiful—Ben, who served our evening meal in the Grill restaurant excellent as well as Jeannie at breakfast. Greeting from the lovely man outside the reception very welcoming. Not much attention to detail in the annex room we booked.
Having to wait 15 minutes in the Courtyard for drinks. Service is abysmal, although I do not think this is the fault of the people serving . TV not working. Yellow water marks in the bath from the stainless s/steel tap. Having paid substantial amount for our room, we complained and offered compensation.

Satisfactory…but a little disappointing given the reputation of the hotel.
Had to queue for breakfast both mornings; had to wait for orange juice to be refilled both mornings. Long wait for cooked breakfast on first morning. Woken both nights by couple arguing first night…and being over physical the next night!

Gorgeous hotel, lovely rooms and facilities. We really loved it
It was a bit disappointing not to find any gluten free pastry at breakfast, but they had at least GF bread

Lovely hotel, let down by staff members.
The room was beautiful, although very dusty.
We tried to have a shower in the afternoon before dinner but the temperature was stuck on "molten". Also, the staff at the Grill Restaurant were very unfriendly and unhelpful, to the point we offered to leave as we appeared to be inconveniencing them.
