I bought this overnight stay on the understanding there would be parking available as stated on your website , however i was then told there was no parking on site and i had to park half a mile away and walk in torrential rain . The room itself was up three flights of narrow badly lit stairs , the room was in a filthy disgusting state it clearly hadnt been cleaned properly for months, tatty furniture, dust and dirt everywhere. The bathroom was horrendous black mould around shower and floor the ceiling was covered in mildew, the toilet brush was covered in toilet paper and faeces , toilet seat was loose and ill fitting. The facilities are so bad that had there not been music playing so loud in the bar that you couldnt hear what bar staff were saying we would have told staff how bad things were and left immediately....we stayed the night but only because we couldnt find other accomodation at such short notice. Luckily my wife had packed a spare bed sheet which we used to cover the tatty bed , we left first thing in morning as we couldnt bring ourselves to use the filthy bathroom ....to say we are dissapointed is an understatement , if payment hadnt already been taken i would have refused to pay....we have photos to support everything i have stated , i believe this establishment should be inspected by yourselves as its your site who are selling this horrible accomodation , im hoping this review gets read by someone who can act upon it as room 8 at the vaults is terrible.

The room could have done with a deep clean

When we arrived to our room, we found our spare towels left on the floor so immediately the stay was off to a disappointing start. While we understood that there was a bar downstairs, there was no indication that the hotel would be hosting some kind of rave until midnight as we had to put up with extremely loud music, thumping bass and screaming punters all through to midnight. On top of this, the pillows were uncomfortable so safe to say we did not sleep well. We had a smart TV in the room which did not connect to the hotel WiFi so we were stuck with Freeview. The bathroom heater did not work and the bathroom smelled of damp. My grandmother who stayed with me could not use the shower because the room was too cold for her. There were sockets not placed on the wall properly. We called the 3 different numbers staff had left for us to contact if we needed help and not once did we receive an answer to our calls so our issues with the bathroom were left unresolved.

If all you need is a clean room and comfortable bed with en suite this is fine. Close to railway station so no taxis needed. Everything in walking distance and plenty of choice for food nearby.

The carpet had holes, the bathroom layout was too cramped, the shower door wasn't on its track properly and fell off at the first touch, and the room was stiflingly hot and couldn't be made comfortable. If the curtains had been pulled across earlier in the day against the sun, it would have helped. The bed headboard smells funny - cigarette smoke? And the backyard was rather squalid with old chairs and junk. Great location, lovely staff, could be a fabulous joint with good management and modest investment.

We were in room 5 at the top of 3 flights of stairs, staff friendly and helpful, ideal as only 5 minute walk from the station. Comfortable bed extra large bath towels and plenty of tea, milk & sugar.

Really enjoyed our stay, hosts very helpful and friendly. Next to the train station so this is excellent, but never heard a train whislt in the room. Close to town center.

Simply put, this is a value for money hotel. Great location for trains, prison and centre and the staff are friendly. A few strange quirks make it unique but may put people off. Entering and exiting through the pub, a very narrow staircase and the shower/bathroom are not suited for larger proportioned guests.

Fabulous accommodation for an over night stay in Shrewsbury for a really good budget price. Clean and very comfy. Loved all the old features in the room. Staff were welcoming and with easy walking access to everything Shrewsbury has to offer. Would definitely book again.

I have never walked out of a property before this in 30-something-years and I don’t like to leave negative comments but they don’t have onsite parking as advertised. I travel by motorcycle so onsite parking is a requirement and that’s why I booked this place only to find out parking was down the road. My window backed onto the beer garden on a Friday night. No thanks! The rooms were above the pub and the whole thing was just ordinary. How people gave them a 7.6 on Expedia I don’t know?!

Stayed for two nights over a weekend. Couldn't fault the staff they were very friendly and helpful. The room was adequate, bed comfortable and had a small shower room/toilet which needed a bit of TLC. Room had everything necessary for a short stay i.e. ironing board and iron, hairdryer, small fan which was a godsend as our room was in full sun all day. We were on the third floor, so lots and lots of stairs (no lift, but we did know that before booking), so not for you if you have any mobility issues. Probably wouldn't stay again, due to this but all in all, not a bad stay.

1st time my brother & I have stayed here. We were well impressed. Our room was lovely & warm. Beds comfy. Plenty of tea , coffee etc. large LCD TV in the room. Bathroom was a bit small but acceptable. Given the price of £63 we were more than happy & would book to stay here again.

We seriously contemplated not staying at all! Check in was here's an envelope your rooms up the stairs! the stairs and corridors were like stepping back into the 70s, dingy with a really musty smell. Mouldy ceilings .. The room well to say it's not like the pictures on the website would be an understatement. Holes in the walls filthy windows, bathroom door that wouldn't close, shower i wouldn't even step in. The bed at least the sheets were clean but in terms of comfort..none existent. I realise this is a relatively cheap room above a pub but in terms of any kind of comfort there was none. Grim is the term that springs to mind. The most welcoming part was the security staff on the door😂. All in all a Terrible experience I'm afraid to say

It's a very old pub with a few rooms, I was on the top floor overlooking the castle which meant it was very quiet but up three flights of stairs! They don't do any food but obviously Shrewsbury has a multitude of eateries. Only a short walk to the center of town and right next to the station. Staff were nice too. Would I stay again? probably not but then there are literally hundreds of places I haven't tried yet!

Useful email before arrival with details of where to park car. Wi-Fi code etc. Laid back check in, staff friendly. Room was at the very top. Lots of old narrow stairs. Room was big enough but en-suite quite small with awkward high step up to get into shower. Also a very musty smell in en suite. Beds were very comfy noise from pub below negligible. Overall an ok budget stay close to centre.

The vaults is what it is, a charming older property, welcoming, friendly nice. The staff were fantastic and so helpful. Cannot hesitate to recommend, would not hesitate to stay again, especially for the views of the Castle itself
