I liked the closeness to the station. Very convenient. The lady who checked me in was lovely. I wanted a bed for a night which was close to the station and that's what I received. I certainly wasn't expecting a Premier Hotel experience. The Vaults is basic but does the job.
I was well able to cope with the stairs (there's a lot) but someone with mobility issues would find them difficult.

Staff were extremely helpful. Fantastic location. Parking is only 3 mins walk from hotel. Station is less than a minute. We went to an 80’s night at The Buttermarket. 2/3 min walk from venue.
Room was a tad too small. Damp smell whilst walking up to the room, but room itself was fine, just on the small side… TV’s could do with being upgraded to a bigger size…. Would stay here again as excellent location… no noise at all from the bar downstairs

Good location, everything you need nearby. Room clean. Very comfortable bed. Nice shower room. Great bar, staffed by lovely friendly people. The perfect place to stay in beautiful Shrewsbury.

Convenient location and reasonable price in comparison to other local properties.
The downstairs pub disco music was very audible and sounded like a constant banging noise from the room, one of the features of a busy pub on a Saturday night. Needs better soundproofing. The room was quite basic but functional.

Perfect room for our stay in Shrewsbury.
We went to a concert on Friday night, the room was perfect for what we needed.

Strangely there was no soap in the shower dispenser but I didn’t find this out till the last night!

Convenience! It’s located about 100 yards from the railway station, and close to the middle of town, just a few minutes walk from the shops, many restaurants, bars and other attractions.
The rooms are on the second floor, up two narrow flights of stairs and fire-doors, which can be awkward to navigate with luggage, but there is a landing to take a breather before negotiating the second flight of stairs. No breakfast is provided, but there are numerous places nearby for that, and staff are willing to offer suggestions for food.

Location was convenient
All a bit shabby. It’s an old pub but could do with a refurbishment. Stairs dark.

The pillows were soft. In a different hotel the pillows were quite hard and i always get a stuff neck because of it.
The carpet is quite old and below my bed there the carpet was missing. Which made the room appear less clean than it actually was.

Very nice staff and the bar was shutting 10:00pm week day
My room was comfortable too
The shower did not have a slip mat

For the price we weren't expecting the room to be lavish, but it looked directly onto the roof top bar which thankfully wasn't open. Furnishings were very dated, mouldy shower, rusty fittingd and cobwebs. The staff were lovely check out easy and plenty of tea/coffee shame kettle was still full from previous occupants. Bed was comfy and clean. Noise was expected as indicated on booking it was above a pub but it wasn't too bad. Access to rooms from bar had no locks but room was secure. Central location and close to train station

Comfy bed & amazing location.
The entire accommodation needs ripping out and refitting. It's old and rotten. The room was filthy with cobwebs all over the walls and lamps. The shower cubicle was broken with most fixtures rotten away. All in all, the place is pretty rank!

The location is really good. It's really central for the town and all it has to offer. We were at a festival, it's an easy walk to the midland show ground from there. The staff were friendly and the pub was buzzing if you're staying for a night on the town. The main bedroom we stayed in was a decent size, the bed was comfy and clean and the TV was a good size. Pleanty of tea, coffee and sugar on offer. There were hangers in the wardrobe with an ironing board and hairdryer which came in handy.
Our room smelt so damp there was a dehumidifier that had to be on at all times. We couldn't not have the window open as the smell was so strong so it made the room cold and noisy. The shower doors kept coming off the track and the shower was thick in black mould around the base. There was a sticking out platform that the shower sits on, I nearly broke my toes on it in the night when I got up and it was dark. On the day we left there was no hot water at all so we couldn't shower and had to wash in cold water in the sink. We're staying for a festival so the whole point in not camping was for the hot shower. Overall the rooms are tired and showing their age. It's an old building but the basics should work properly during your stay, it's what you're paying for.

Property was good and the situation excellent.
I had a frightening experience. I was locked in the bathroom for over an hour due to a faulty door handle. The hotel apologised and offered me a refund. The hotel gave me £75 right away and told me that Booking. Com would refund the outstanding balance of £150. This has not happened. I have had no refund. Indeed I keep getting emails from you asking how my stay was!
Please rectify this situation immediately.

Elizabeth Sibbald

The hotel is conveniently situated on a main road very close to the train station. Lots of food and shops around. The check in and out process is simple and straightforward. The staff were nice. The bed was comfortable. If you go up the street just a bit there is a stairway on the left which takes you on a path around a castle and you can look down on the upstairs patio area of the pub (see photos). Its a short walk and a nice evening view of the city. The cost was a little steep for us but I think it was fair value for Shrewsbury. There is a Greggs nearby and I it was recommended to me that I try the sausage rolls. They are so delicious. I also recommend, if you have the time, a day trip to Shropshire if you enjoy gorgeous walks in nature.
The stairwell and rooms above the pub have a bit of a musty smell, but it is an old building so that's to be expected. I propped the window open a bit to let in a breeze to air out the room and cool it down. I was happy to find that the outside patio area right outside our window was not loud as other reviews had mentioned only a low murmur. We were on the second floor so we didn't hear any noise from inside the pub. Little bit of mildew in the shower and there was a spider that poked his head out of the cable raceway on the second night and gave me a fright, but what are you going to do right?

Excellent location, friendly and hospitable staff who all went the extra mile. Gave advice when asked and told us about a hide gem! Gave clear instructions about checking out, how to access the terrace from our room, where to find the wifi code, everything was superb!
Such a beautiful and characteristic building. I love that they have kept all the old features, which bring the smell of authenticity and history 🤗
Only let down was the decor of the terrace. Needs a lick of paint and a quick tidy up/ rearrange of furniture, then it's all 5 perfect for us.

No breakfast. But room was adequate. Shower room was small. Just about fitted in there. Beds were clean and comfy. Great spot just up from train station and the high St for shopping.
Problem climbing stairs up to the third floor.

There were two beds in our room and it was very hot those two days so we were able to sleep separately the hotel was very close to the railway station just a very short walk the owner was very helpful when I needed some scissors and brought them to our room on the top floor

Good location for historic part of Shrewsbury and to the railway station. It did not pretend to be full service.
It would be difficult of access for anyone with physical problems, but I had no problems.

The location was spot on for friends in a nearby hotel and most importantly, the railway station. It was comfortable and convenient, clean enough and was basically what I expected. I also liked that being on the top floor I didn't hear the Saturday night music being blasted out in the pub by the resident DJ. I slept very well. I only saw 2 staff all weekend, but everything was ready when I checked in. Plenty of tea bags / coffee sachets etc in the room.
The bathroom sink, Room 6, was a little small and trying to wash / shave meant water splashing on the floor, and the room was a little tired ie., a few things were in need of a little TLC, hence I can't give it top marks, but all in all it was great for what I needed. I would stay again, but 2 or 3 nights top.
