Location
Walls were paper thin. Bed was horrrendous. Bath was mouldy & dirty. Overall grim.

Perfect central location everything we wanted to see and do was within walking distance. The hotel was very welcoming as were all the staff. The cooked breakfast was good although my husband thought that beans and black pudding should be added. Lots of other choices too.
The decor is a little tired in the rooms and if possible a king size bed would be better although room size might prevent this as they are small/cosy.

We were thrilled to be upgraded to a suite when we arrived, such a lovely surprise! The room was spacious, really comfortable, and the four‑poster bed was a wonderful bonus. The hotel’s central location is perfect for exploring Shrewsbury, and with the car park only a short walk away, everything felt very convenient.
Check‑in was a really nice experience too. We were offered a complimentary glass of sherry and a member of staff kindly showed us to our room, which made us feel very welcome. Our stay included breakfast, which was great, plenty of cereals, pastries, and fruit, plus a tasty cooked breakfast with options to suit most people. The staff were friendly, and I’m sure they would happily do their best to help with any requests outside the main menu.

Brilliant location, absolutely in the middle of Shrewsbury. Fabulous olde-worlde hotel with suits of armour in the breakfast room and a snooker room downstairs. Staff were lovely. We were offered sherry on check-in which is a first in my book! Breakfast was great, decent bacon and sausages, well cooked eggs, proper table service.
It is an old hotel and has all the character and charm of a lovely old building.
The shower wasn’t very powerful.

Lovely reception rooms and very good breakfast.
Very difficult to drive to, particularly on a Saturday and some roads closed to traffic/pedestrianised.
Room small and cold initially. Got radiator to work but heated towel rail not working.

One small critisism.. Very old fashioned hair dryer that cut out every few seconds. Time to upgrade!

Lovely old hotel in the heart of Shrewsbury town centre. The decor was a little tired in some areas but the over all Christmas charm was very pleasant. We enjoyed a complementary sherry on arrival and the staff were friendly and helpful…
Breakfast was exceptional, they even had haddock on the menu! The breakfast room was truly delightful and a wonderful trip down memory lane with the starched white table cloths and the toast in toast racks. The breakfast room especially lends itself to the Christmas Season as does the the whole hotel… Janice was great … Happy Christmas!
It was a lovely stay and we will use it as our base when we pop to Shrewsbury in the future. The only thing that would make it better is an upgrade in the television and channels.

Come here every year for Christmas. It's a friendly hotel, perfect location and the staff are lovely. A glass of sherry on arrival, the holiday starts at check in.
Our shower was a bit weak! First time we've ever had a problem but we managed!

The hotel was central and close to shops, restaurants and bars. The staff were so kind and welcoming. The rooms and breakfast were great value. Our second visit this year and hopefully not the last.

The staff and the profile pics on booking.com
The pictures weren't a true reflection of the facts
Room smelt of damp, windows needed painting about 6 years ago
Bathroom was fairly new but the room and corridors were well past their best, all room cabinets draws and cupboards were faded with scorch wear marks on all
Bedside cabinet was free standing despite having 'live' light switches fitted on it
Mattress smelt of stale urine and kept sliding away from the headboard
Cooked breakfast was:- one sausage, one mushroom, one egg ,two rashers of bacon and two slices of toast
Breakfast orange juice was excessively watered down
It was shown as 4 star in its booking profile that may of been the case 30 years ago

Excellent all round as always, I have stayed at the Prince Rupert when passing through Shrewsbury many times and older family members stayed there before me. This was an unplanned, last minute overnight stay while travelling alone back to London and mobility problems prevented me from travelling further than day.
Beautiful decor throughout, comfortable rooms and polite, attentive staff who you can tell take pride in their work and really put the guests first. The customer care here is something that really makes this hotel stand out.
Great value, especially with the breakfast included - which is always exceptional and there is a huge choice of cereals, fruit juices, teas and cooked food available and again the service at breakfast is impeccable.
Always my first choice when in Shrewsbury and I can't recommend highly enough!

The hotel location was fabulous and I loved the public rooms but I found the behind-the-scenes accommodation was shabby and in need of a makeover. The age of the property should be respected but that can be achieved while still making the place look more loved and cared for.
Breakfast was good and the staff were very nice to deal with and friendly. Sherry at reception was very well received and a really nice touch.
The room was dated and worn. The corridors were shabby and in need of redecoration.

It’s a beautiful period property and every aspect of the building was beautiful.
There was a little bit of noise in the morning, but I had a good night’s sleep.
7.0 / 10.0
Central location and the rooms were nice and big with tea and coffee facilities. The hotel itself is olde worlde.
The parking was complicated to get to and difficult little back streets for a larger car. The carpark was dark and would be a bit scary for someone on their own. The breakfasts were not generous and the choice was limited. It felt a bit tired and like they were scrimping on food.

This is a hotel full of character in a fantastic location. Parking was off site, but only a short walk away. There was plenty of choice at breakfast. I had previously read the book about how the staff cared for the homeless during Covid, so was keen to see the hotel for myself. I would highly recommend staying at the Prince Rupert Hotel.

Breakfast was good, very friendly staff. Public areas could do with an update but room was clean, comfortable and good value for money.
Water pressure was very poor. Tried to wash my face before bed and eventually used facial wipes instead. Also tried to have a bath in the morning and gave up in the end - had my bath in about 3 inches of water. Shame because towels and bath products were lovely!

The Staff where outstanding and customer service was excellent. I called before arriving as in was running very late. on arrival was welcomed knowing i was late. Offered a Glass of Sherry complimentary a very nice welcome. Room for a single had a large Single bed and it was very comfortable.
Breakfast was a pleasure. Menu cooked breakfast served at the table. all the touches Silver Coffee pots toast in a toast rack and service was very friendly and professional. Made a great change than standing waiting at a buffet.
Nothing major hotel was warm clean, certainly a character hotel and oozes with it.
