NOHGA HOTEL KIYOMIZU KYOTO

Amazing hotel. Loved the bakery. Shower was so strong and the location was perfect!

I would like to ask for clarification regarding your rooftop seating policy. This evening I was asked to leave my table despite having ordered significantly more food and drinks than most of the other guests around me. I was surprised, as I was not informed in advance that there was any time limit for using the table. What I found particularly confusing was that several other customers who arrived at approximately the same time as I did, and who had ordered considerably less, were allowed to remain at their tables. Additionally, there were free tables available at the time, which made the request even more unexpected. I would appreciate understanding why I was treated differently. Could you please explain your policy regarding table occupancy? If there is a maximum seating time or any other criteria, I believe guests should be informed when they are seated to avoid misunderstandings. I have otherwise very much enjoyed my stay at your hotel, which is why this experience was disappointing. I would appreciate your clarification.

To start, I think the hotel and staff are great, nothing to critique about. Great english, clean, polite, fast and efficient. The rooms are clean and very spacious to japanese standards, it was especially spacious for me since I was solo. The restaurant has amazing staff as well and the food is great. Do be aware for the breakfast buffet, there is only one meat option, which is a type of lunchable ham. Beside that there are plenty of breads, pastries, cheeses, fruits and even cereal. You can add an additional breakfast dish for roughly 1000 Yen. From the six options, I chose the egg benedicts with salmon and it was great. If you have nothing to do you can just sit in the lobby cafe, have a coffee and a pastry and recharge. Now onto my experience outside the hotel. The hotel is located in a tourist dense area and you will 100% hear and see more tourists than actual locals. The bus stop is near you or you can just walk to the nearest metro station, which is Kiyomizu-Gojo ~5 minutes walk. The main attractions are in walking distance so you don’t have to worry too much about walking the whole day. If you are a night owl like me, Kyoto in general can become a bit bland so to say but also the hidden beauty of the city appears. Since Kyoto is more of a cultural city with lots of temples, shrines and beautiful streets, at night you won’t see anything open beside the conbinis and by night I mean past 2am. However, there are also some advantages to exploring Kyoto at night. Sure, there may not be a lot of food options but the streets will look amazing in the dim light of the lanterns and light poles. Not to forget the main attraction, Fushimi Inari. Yes, at night you will have no public transportation to Fushimi Inari so obviously you will have to walk from the hotel to there and that takes like 45 minutes to the entrance and then you will have to walk the path to “the” spot, which takes another 50 minutes depending on your pace. Yes, it’s a long, long walk but the walk itself is just so serene and peaceful at night, no tourists, just nobody, maybe some photographers and fellow night owls like me that love the night and you yourself. Overall, I would say this is a great hotel if you’re travelling with someone or with your family, however for solo travellers I think there are far better locations you can choose from for a better price since you don’t need a lot, especially when you’re exploring at night with no transport.

Breakfasts were boring and the same everyday. Other hotels offer better location relative to the Kyoto restaurants in Gion. Good and clean however other hotels may be more centrally located.
