I personally didn't like the location for breakfast in the old wine cellar, but in the summer I am sure it would work better.

A wonderful stay at l’Ombre d’Azay

Everything about l’Ombre d’Azay was excellent. Isabela is and Jerome are wonderful hosts, the facilities are exceptional and the rooms are wonderful. Being able to easily and safely park on the property was a bonus. We will definitely return.

Unusual and comfortable accomodation

Central location near several restaurants. Jerome and Isabella were excellent hosts. Our suite was large with a very modern bathroom and shower, kitchen/dining room and a lounge in a cave !

A beautiful place to stay in a lovely village in the Loire. We will definitely return.

The chambre d'hôtes was in a perfect location, just a few minutes walk to the beautiful chateaux and restaurants. The studio was very well equipped, clean and comfortable and with effective air conditioning. The building itself was charming with a games area in the caves and the garden was relaxing to wander through. Breakfast was brought to the studio and was delicious and catered for my gluten free diet. Thank you to our lovely hosts Isabela and Jerome.

Great place to explore Azay!

This beautiful hotel is part of the history of Azay. It is a family run property, run by lovely Isabela and her husband. The beds are super comfortable. Rooms are big and the windows open to the beautiful front yard of the property. Isabela made herself available to help with anything we needed. They offer great breakfast. We stayed here July 12-14 2025 and had two rooms. We highly recommend it. Look no further!

Fantastic stay - will be returning!

A fantastic stay, where the owners have put so much effort into every detail for their guests and also made it a hugely homely and comfortable environment. They were personable and hospitable and even booked our dinner at a restaurant when we’d requested (based on the recommendations provided). The breakfast was one of the best we’ve had during our stay in the Loire (all local products), their renovation of the troglodyte cave was a communal space with lots of games (pool, jenga, darts), it’s a 2 minute walk to all the restaurants, shops etc in Azay-le-Rideau, with the chateau on the doorstep, too. The rooms were very high spec and comfortable, and the chickens/rabbit/guinea pigs at the back with a lovely garden were a nice addition too.

Nothing - it was a great stay! We were there during the heatwave so it was very hot overnight. A fan was in the room but was still hot (but was exceptional weather - 35+ degrees).

Very comfortable stay

Perfect location in the centre of Azay. Secure parking in the grounds of the beautiful house/hotel. Our bedroom had its own access from the garden and the room was very comfortable and large. Walk in shower and the bedroom and bathroom were very well appointed. The breakfast room is amazing in the old vaults and the food was delicious. Lots of choice and a lot of thought had gone into the presentation. The young couple running this place deserve a lot of credit for their hard work in making it a lovely place to stay

Magical troglodyte B&B

Magical place. Absolutely gorgeous property and the troglodyte apartment and common spaces were so cool. Breakfast was hearty and delicious and the host family couldn't be lovelier. Facilities felt luxurious. 3 minute walk to grocery store, boulangerie and other amenities. Would gladly stay there again!

Great location in Azay de Rideau, breakfast was lovely and served at the table in our room. The place is an old winery and is fascinating with the caves etc. Good room for a family to stay in.

A L'Ombre D'Azay is a very special and unique place to stay with the most thoughtful and charming of hosts and an interesting history as well as lovely landscaped grounds. Beautifully appointed, stylish accommodation and extremely comfortable beds, and the most delicious breakfast with home cooked eggs fresh from the owner's hens.

Welcoming, clean, well thought out and an engaging stay!

The hosts were very friendly and showed us around the accommodation and grounds. They also helped us with our luggage. The apartment was nicely furnished and very clean. My teenage children loved the caves and enjoyed the pool table and table tennis. It was a wonderful stay and we very much look forward to returning.

Fantastic, plan to return.

The property is beautiful, with lots of places to sit outside and inside. The rooms are calm and tasteful with all the amenities you could need. There are common areas with games to play inside a fabulous renovated cave typical of the region. The hosts were welcoming and helpful. The property is right in the heart of the town and easy walk to everything, including restaurants, the town square, the chateau and all kinds of shops. At the same time, the gardens are calm and relaxing, an absolute oasis.

Whilst the breakfast featured local produce, there could have been a little more choice rather than each place setting being laid with the same selection. For example, there was a yoghurt but only vanilla flavour, and no eggs available. It's a really minor point in an otherwise exceptional stay.

Comfortable, convenient, well located, a big yard to stroll around - we really enjoyed our stay!

The studio was spacious and comfortable, with a glassed-in sunroom that let us enjoy the flowers and watch birds hopping around the huge back yard. Breakfasts were delicious. The location is great: in one direction it’s an easy walk to the Chateau and the charming town, in the other direction easy access to good roads for day trips to other sites of interest in the area. Isabella and Jerome are hard working, mostly out of sight, but always there if you have a question or need anything. And they speak English. After four weeks of driving around southern and central France, our 4 nights at l’Ombre d’Azay stand out as one of the high points. We would happily stay there again and highly recommend.

The apartment was perfect ... large, clean, beautifully decorated Hosts were extremely very helpful Breadfast was delicious with fresh juice, ham cheese, croissants, pains chocolats, breads, compote, yogurt and of course great coffee Most wonderful was fireplace that made our evenings warm and cosy to watch t.v. and relax just like in our own home ... could not ask for more
