It was absolutely wonderful,so calming and relaxing. We didn't have a Troglodyte room but the one we did have was small but beautiful with a lovely view. The dining area is in one of the caves with great lighting. The breakfast was plentiful with a huge choice and many items home-made. Wish we could have stayed longer, but we will be back.

Location, especially with dog was a track from right behind accommodation. Super choice at breakfast with homemade cakes, jams and yoghurts. Large room with lots of storage space and beautiful bathroom, individual outside area for each room. Nice clean pool to cool off in after hard days sightseeing. Very friendly and helpful staff (including Lewis the collie)

A fun great location, the caves are cool and spacious. We could easily walk into town, the dogs were well accomodated. On arrival we had a refreshing swim and relaxed by the pool. Great breakfast.

The hotel is beautiful and the staff amazing and helpful.
The cave room had a musty scent, coming from the cave’s natural humidity. there was no way to open the windows cause our room wan in front of the patio with people passing. Also noisy in the morning due to people having breakfast in the patio in front of our room. Ask for a room in another part of the property.

Very interesting and pretty among the caves. The pool was very nice.
We arrived on our bikes in the rain and had to wait outside until they opened.

The room was about as cool as I had expected it to be, and I had pretty high expectations. :) The breakfast was surprisingly good too- both the selection of food, and the cool atmosphere in a cave.
It was nice to be able walk into town. Also convenient for excursious to many other towns in the Loire Valley.
Nothing comes to mind

- very well decorated and equipped room
- very nice and helpful staffs
- nice breakfast
- great environment around, super comfortable
- I prefer carpet or wooden floor more than stone floor, but this is only my personal preference, stone floor is a good match with the nature of the accommodation

The weather?

Excellent access to restaurants and chateau (Azay le Rideau), which are within walking distance. Helpful suggestions for dinner from host. Rooms are well appointed. Rooms have climate control but are cool even on warm days.
It was a bit of a walk to town center.

The rooms are cool - great for summer months - no surprise there !
Our water temperature in the room was tepid for most of the stay which was unfortunate as we patiently waited for it to improve (after assuming lots of other guests might have used it up).
Our room has a bath which was fine, although the shower hose part could do with some sort of mounting onto the wall etc.

This is a charming place to stay. It is run by a lovely helpful friendly family. They were really nice people. Staying in a cave was great fun. Very comfortable. The swimming pool was a delight - great temperature and good to be able to relax after a day out. It was a very relaxing place to stay. We liked sitting outside our cave having an evening drink. It was easy to walk to the Chateau. Highly recommended.

Quiet location. Swimming pool. Helpful staff.
Difficult to find anyone to check in with. Hotel seemed unfinished and unprepared for guest arrivals.

A fantastic little hotel with a great atmosphere.
The rooms were large and well furnished. The owners were friendly and helpful.
The meal platter was good, meaning we didn't need to leave the hotel after the long drive from Calais.
Unfortunately the disabled rom that we had booked, had inadvertently been given to someone else. They kindly agreed to swop, so that we were able to gain the step free access for my wheelchair.

Short walk into Azay, lovely room, good location for cycling.

All the staff were very happy and approachable. Our room was amazing. We were in the suite, dug out of the rocks:it was very large and a real one off! We were able to use the swimming pool and time of night or day which was so great for when we came back from town at night and before breakfast. It was a pleasant 20 minute walk into town.
It is obvious there are many improvements and extra rooms being built causing some of the grounds to appear close to a building site, but all the finished areas are lovely. We were Azay on a Monday and in the evening it was dead. We couldn’t find any restaurant open!

The hotel is small and intimate, set on a lovely hillside overlooking a valley and trees , just a 15 min walk to the lovely town of Azay Le Rideaux , down quiet roads . Our room had its private patio area with a little rattan sofa and a table, chairs and parasol for lunches etc . Our room was large with a separate dressing area and large bathroom too - our room was not a cave room and had a rustic French theme to it . Thete was also a fridge , kettle, coffee and tea in the room too .The air conditioning unit did a really good job of keeping the room cool also. There was also metal shutters to draw down to keep the heat out on two of the windows which was really useful . There was also a flat screen TV .
The pool is a delightful find , just down some steps with plenty of sunbeds with really thick , comfortable seat pads which were great . There were a number of parasols too . There are stone steps to walk down into the pool which are helpful .
Breakfast was in one of the cave rooms which was really unusual and interetesting with a really array of food - eggs to boil , cold meat platters , cheese platters , French bread , toast , pancakes , lots of fruit , juices , freshly made coffee and tea available as well as a fridge of cold water .There were also various cakes available and different jams too - so lots of choice all in all .
Alain the proprietor speaks English as well as French and was very helpful .
There is onsite parking and a lift down to the main hotel area too .
The location was quiet and peaceful, with bird song and the odd car down below which was a lovely rest after the busy days of travelling about to Châteauxs and markets .
Nothing - I would definitely go back . There isn’t a bar onsite but wine by the bottle is for sale - all rooms seem to have their own patio and table area . Apparently food is available in the room if you want it but we ate out most of the time anyway .

Nice outside area to enjoy a drink in the evening. Nice swimming pool area. Nice breakfast area but we didn't stop for breakfast so can't offer any comments.
Room is a cave (literally) and seemed damp. Difficult to communicate as the person who checked us in spoke very little English and we speak very little French. The person who checked us out spoke no English and we didn't have enough French to explain that they had forgotten to put a cotton sheet on the bed so we slept on the mattress protector which was grubby.. It was too late to do anything about it when we realised. I know that we are in France and it is wrong to expect English is spoken but they are advertising on an international website so some ability to communicate would be expected. Their website also says that it is a few metres from the Azay le Rideau castle but it is actually a 20 - 25 minute walk. Google maps confirmed this.
