Great location and interesting hotel and really good breakfast in a lovely dinning room. Helpful staff
The top floor felt a long way from reception and need to walk through a few flights of stairs corridors to get there. Everything looked safe and fire alarms in place and exits clearly labelled. Personally I didn't feel comfortable being away in the loft and didn't feel safe.
The furniture was old and tired the bathroom was old fashioned - shower head screwed to painted wall and tiles painted over ! - it felt like their really struggling to keep on top of the maintenance (I think the rest of the reviews summarise it accurately) Probably depends on what you paid as to what you're prepared to overlook !

The hotel is beautiful with such history and so graciously kept with a superb reception experience and of course the breakfast & service was of a very high standard.
We were warned about the stairs so pack light - great upfront notice.

Great welcome, great breakfast, interesting building and friendly staff
No upright shower in our room

Lovely small hotel in a 16th century house a short walk from the historic centre and all the main sights. Our room had lots of character with a beamed ceiling and magnificent fireplace. The bed was comfortable. There was a good cold breakfast buffet, with eggs cooked to order. The breakfast room over looks a pretty garden. Staff were friendly.
Be aware that because of the nature of the property there is no lift and the stairs are steep. To be fair, we were warned of this and were able to request a room on the first floor.
There was no shower as such - just a shower attachment on the bath.

Excellent location, very close to the centre of the city. Room spacious and quite, very comfortable large bed. Possibility to make coffee/tea in the room. Perfect place to stay, but the best part is the breakfast room - I loved the ancient spirit with historical decorations and the small garden outside. Breakfast delicious with enough variety. Staff very nice and helpful.
Furniture is not new, but this is part of the historical spirit, and everything was functioning and clean.

Breakfast was delicious, and the decor of the hotel is really impressive. A mix of medieval architecture and second-hand but original furnishings. The location is perfect, right in the heart of the city, but on a quiet street.
the plumbing is also medieval, although there was plenty of hot water, which was nice. The cleanliness was acceptable, but not great. The carpets were worn, there was mold in the bathrooms.

A historical building from 1500s made as a hotel. The best way to explore how people of Ghent lived long time ago. A beautiful lunchroom and very unusual (in a good sense) rooms. A grocery store next door. Exceptional hosts. Fast response to all requests we had. Easily accessible by all means of transport.
Very steep stairs (no elevator). No modern facilities/furniture, which is OK if you expect a historical setting of the hotel.

Old fashioned charm. Very pleasant staff. Nice atmosphere. Quiet location but very close to the centre of the town.
Lack of hot water.

Excellent breakfast buffet and freshly cooked eggs on offer . Very characterful room and comfortable beds. We really appreciated being given ( at our request) sheets and blankets instead of duvets.
The bathroom had a bath with a hand held shower attachment. There was no shower curtain or hook on the wall to hang the shower attachment. This made it awkward to have a shower and wash my hair. Apart from that teh facilities were all good.

Nothing. We refused to stay here.
The photos posted on Booking.com are EXTREMELY Deceptive!!! I went into three rooms, and ALL of them were equally disgusting. Beat up furniture, no shower curtain in any bathroom, and only mold on the tiles, and a hose hanging. No pictures on the walls, only old paint and ripped screens on the window. All three rooms were extremely small. Not at all like the photos on Booking.com.
We did not stay, but found another hotel that day.
DO NOT STAY HERE!!! See attached photos.

Breakfast was really good, the host & staff were really friendly. The building was authentic & historic
Although there were no mod cons, I loved the medieval look & charm to the rooms & building. Right down to the suit of armour in the breakfast room and the classical music being played in the morning
Great location for the old town & attractions
There are no mod cons in the building as it is so old..
If you like all your creature comforts and smart TV, then this isn’t the place for you

This hotel has bags of character and is very convenient for the major sites. It also has a garden at the back - most welcome after the hustle bustle of sightseeing

attentive staff, nice property with spacious room and old world feel, sufficient breakfast
room needed better cleaning to remove cobwebs and dust, window screen had holes allowing mosquitos to enter

We loved the location, the charm, and the very friendly staff. The breakfast was also delicious.
We would have preferred the rooms to not have carpets as they were a little dirty. The bathroom floor also could have been a bit cleaner.

Fantastic place to stay while in the lovely Ghent (a must-see destination in Belgium - sure Brugge, Antwerp, and Brussels are grand, but Ghent is something else).
Beautiful hotel, lovely and friendly staff and a great breakfast.
Quite a few stairs, but that is to be expected with these older European buildings.
All the other positives made us forget about that...

three flights of stairs to our room which was quite challenging.

Beautiful old building elaborately furnished with antique furniture and paintings including pianos and a suit of armour! Excellent breakfast with eggs made to order, and classical music softly playing in background.
Bathroom would benefit from some refurbishment.

It is a lovely historic building, right in the centre of Ghent. Room was comfortable, host and staff were exceptional. Very friendly & welcoming, going the extra mile when I needed to stay longer all of a sudden because of a trainstrike. Breakfast was very good and as much as you wanted. Good value for money. Would love to come again.
I liked everything. Just a short warning that this monumental building doesn’t have a lift.

The hotel is in an old but authentic Belgian building, the room was big, clean, confortable bed, good internet. Breakfest was good, fresh made, served in a nice room with view to the garden. The hotel have privat parking, at extra cost. The Old Town and all atractions are near, few minutes by walk. The host was friendly and bery nice person. Thank you. Recomend.

It is like staying in a stately home - there is so much space, and beautiful antique furniture. Even a suit of armour in the dining room! The bed was big and comfortable, and the breakfast was great. Staff were friendly and helpful. It's just a short walk from the centre of town, and not far from a tram stop if you want to travel further.
Because the streets are cobbled, any traffic outside can't help making a noise. It's on a quiet street, but still you could hear deliveries at 6am.
