The history, you don’t get to stay in a museum often. Being able to see some of the history in the guest area and then visit the exhibition the next day really made it, incredibly moving.
Breakfast was great, we ordered the cooked breakfast as an extra (good to have a veggie option)
Excellent value for money as well.
Unfortunately there was a mess up with the booking, possibly due to a staff changeover, but we had specifically booked a room in the main building, and got allocated to the garden block, which is also part of the historic building complex. It was too late by then someone else was in our room. That was disappointing because we’d spent ages choosing the room for maximum historic interest. This would have been OK otherwise except, though when we were shown the room it was warm and cosy, we just could not get the heating system to work later in the night (one of those combined A/C & fan ones) and it was arctic outside that night so we somewhat froze. Probably useful to make sure people have instructions. However a good breakfast cheered us up and we reflected it was probably more authentic to experience the temperature that the troops might have done!

Beautiful building, great breakfast and convenient location. I went to Belgium for a World War 1 venture and knowing the building itself being part of that history made the stay so much more interesting. The staff are very welcoming and happy to help with any needs you have.

The bathroom window wouldn’t close completely and it was a bit chilly in the middle of the night!

Next day I would visit the area with a group and the first visit would be Talbot House. As it's a bit a long travel for me with public transport I had a look for a hotel. I admit, I even didn't realise I booked a night at the museum !! It was amazing, everything about the stay was amazing.
The mattress was a bit too soft, I am not used to that.

Excellent place to stay - comfortable and clean and the warden Gerald and his sons looked after us so well. Loved the garden and superbreakfast. Definitely a home from home!

Exploring the rich history of the Ypres area is one thing. Living amidst it takes this experience to another level. This is what you can expect to find at Talbot House, which is literally a working museum and an enduring testament to the people who labored to give soldiers of The Great War a few moments of peace away from the front line. Book a room. Enjoy a full English breakfast. Spend a moment in quiet reflection in the upper room or rear garden, and enjoy a local beer in the first-floor sitting area, all surrounded by history. Oh, the stories the walls here can share, now echoes of lives well-lived and tragically lost.
This is an unforgettable lodging experience.

A stunning stay in a place of real history.
A great welcome from Warden Gerald and the team allowed us to watch a Euro '25 match on the communal TV.
Peaceful garden cottage room with shared washing facilities. All clean and pleasant.
Simple but pleasant breakfast set-up and honesty bar was a nice touch.
Do explore the house - the chapel on the top floor was breath-taking.
Oh if walls could talk.

Warm house good breakfast.lynn the lady warden was wonderful and helped us out as I'm disabled.
Warden was awful had to change rooms. By the time he finished arguing the museum closed so we couldn't go in. he served cold coffee and wouldn't make fresh.for us.would not stay again if he is there.

Novel to stay in such a historic building - we enjoyed visiting the museum and learning more about the history of Talbot House. Rooms are comfortable - we stayed in the garden building separate from main house. Excellent continental breakfast (there is a charge for cooked which we didn’t choose to have - in fact, the available selection for the continental was more than enough!) Hosts were really friendly - gave us recommendations for the area and made us feel very welcome. Overall highly recommend if you are visiting Poperinge!
Rooms do not have hairdryers - the host kindly lent me one but would recommend to take your own if needed!

Lovely English breakfast on picknickbenches outside. Very friendly staff who welcomed us with a nice pot of tea. Restful garden, plenty of places to sit and read.
Shared badroom was a bit primitive. The room was sober but clean.

Super friendly host whom made tea and cake for us on arrival and told us to treat the place as a home from home.
The gardens and tranquility were excellent and the museum portrayed the history of Talbot house.
There was nothing to not like. Would en-suite rooms have been better, probably but it would take away from the fabric of the building and its purpose.

It has so much history, for anyone wanting to visit the WWI sites this is so much part of that time.

Excellent historical ambience.
Safe and covered area for bicycles at the end of the garden (although small - shed can hold about 4 bikes only).

The historic connections. The uniqueness. The importance to Canadian and world history. The commitment of the wardens. The house cat. The location in Poperinge.
Privacy and noise (nothing can be done about this... it is a 108 year old home). Breakfast (though it was the Wardens' last day, no hot breakfast was served as we had hoped).
