Tsukinoya

Hakone was a gorgeous little day trip, we wish we could have stayed more nights. The couple that runs Tsukinoya were so so sweet, dropped us off at the bus and ropeway on two different occasions. We went on the Ropeway over the sulphur banks and it was a highlight of our trip. The Onsen was pretty and so relaxing, and it was available every time we wanted to use it (three different times in our overnight stay!) The lady that runs the Ryokan recommended us a little Izakaya a block away, made a reservation for us while we bathed and even walked us around the corner to dinner. Overall, I would love to return someday and bring more gifts from home.

That I didn’t stay another night!

This was such a special part of our trip. Our room was huge, clean and up in a serene town in the mountains. The couple that run the place are so adorable. Their kindness was incredible and verging on insistent. I tried to microwave some convenience store food and they *appeared* and would not allow me to do it myself then delivered it to our room on a tray like a 5 star meal. Precious!!! They informed us regretfully that our check out day was their holiday and showed us exactly where to put the key and find our shoes....but lo and behold, they were there in the morning to drive us to the art museum that we had planned to visit that day....no arguing....they were driving us....no matter what. We absolutely adored this, however be prepared. There are two onsens which serve as the shower/bathing situation for the guesthouse. Both are private and locked when in use. One is traditional and the other is......erotic....the owners were hesitant to show us the one with all the phallis, but I found it very lovely.

Our only regret is not staying longer.

The couple that run this property are some of the nicest and most welcoming people you would ever have the pleasure to meet. They did everything in their power to ensure our trip to Hakone was comfortable, memorable, and engaging. They were helpful in directing us on where to go, drove us to the train station, and even helped us figure out how to ship our bags through the konbini. I would recommend this place to anyone that wants the ryokan experience and see why this is a spot we have saved for any future travels to the region.

There is nothing I didn't like but I would caution anyone that isn't familiar with traditional Japanese futon bedding that it is directly on the floor and it is not a 'plush' experience. It is plenty warm and they will do whatever they can to assist you in your comfort, but just know that going into the experience.

Traditional ryokan, great private onsen available (you book it and then lock the door, for 50 min its yours no additional fees). Room was traditional with futons, which was great experience. Stuff was really really nice! The owner tooks us twice to places we wanted to go, and were kind and eager to help. Was a great traditional experience!

Not close to Hakone - need a bus ride (30 min). However, its close to 2 bus stations. Also, there are not many places to get diner / breakfast nearby (the ryokan doesn’t serve food)
