Fiona the host was amazing. You will be staying in her house possibly with other guests in the room next door. Fiona has a separate part upstairs so this wasn’t an issue. The room was spotlessly clean. Fiona was so accommodating letting us use the kitchen, making us fresh coffee in the morning and even baked some lemon muffins for us. One afternoon we sat upstairs and had a gin with her. The spa pool was really nice too. Overall we had a lovely stay with Fiona and will look forward to seeing her again another time.

Costly lesson learnt

Fiona was very friendly and welcoming upon our arrival. I had booked and paid for three rooms; however, due to my own oversight when making the reservation, I had not realised that the owner also shared the space and facilities. As this type of arrangement is not one I would typically choose for a weekend with friends, I made the decision to book alternative accommodation. After some discussion, we packed up our belongings and informed Fiona that I had been unaware the space would be shared. With another friend due to arrive and a local friend planning to join us, we felt we would be more comfortable in a fully private space.

I feel it’s important that the detail of the owner being in the house is made much clearer on the Booking.com listing so future guests can make an informed decision before booking. It was however a wonderful location with comfortable looking facilities.

Excellent stay for affordable cost

Fiona has created a very cosy and comfortable stay that is a great value for the area. We loved being able to walk to town and park our car off-street. We stayed super cosy with bed warmers and good quality linen and bed. We also appreciated the local recommendations and really loved the wine bar for a tasting and The Thai for an amazing dinner. We loved meeting pup, Goldie, as well! Highly recommend.

Retreat is the correct name for this beautiful property. It is a peaceful, tranquil spot with gorgeous gardens. Fiona an hospitable and lovely hostess who hits the right balance between being available to chat and discreetly sensing when solitude is needed. Thank you!

Lovely warm and welcoming stay, would highly recommend

Our host was lovely and had made a slice on our arrival. My parents are elderly and were unsure when we arrived, however we were made to feel welcome and cared for. We had a big day out the next day and when we returned soup had been made incase we were to tired to cook!

Fiona was a very friendly and welcoming host. Our bedroom was spacious with a comfortable bed. The shared facilities included a large, well equipped kitchen and covered outdoor sitting area with views towards the harbour. A quiet, peaceful neighbourhood.

Amazing B&B which will not disappoint

Fiona gave us a very warm welcome and we spent a wonderful time exchanging stories with a good glass of wine. The B&B is beautiful, very comfortable and Fiona prepares a wonderful breakfast which we had with an amazing view from the terrace. This is an outstanding B&B and we hope to return soon with more time to explore Mangonui and surroundings.

Location was perfect for our stay. Our host was super nice & very informative. Her home was very nice.

Only little bug we have is the room(s) where you sleep on the ground floor, are very pleasant however, not so good when you are woken up by other guests in the bathroom expecially the bath...running water pipes are just outside the window, it was awful & the bath is just on the other side of our wall so we can hear everything.

Patio views lovely

The double rooms are large, light, spacious, spotlessly clean and very comfortable with excellent bedding. The location is perfect with wonderful views of the smaller picturesque harbour. We were welcomed by the host with tea, coffee and homemade biscuits on the patio. We stayed two nights and could come and go as we pleased.

We upgraded to the two double rooms as the (value) single, though spotlessly clean, was a big step down from the other two high quality rooms. We felt the breakfast options were rather limited.
