Glenavon Homestay

Location is great

The room and the location were great. Oban is a great destination for tourists who want to be close to the sea. The street parking was just fine, and ample. Easy walking distance to Oban downtown if you are able-bodied. The room was clean, quiet, and comfortable. The shared bathroom was fine, and the shower worked well.

The check-in process was a little convoluted. We had to go to a hotel in town to get the key, which required us to pay for parking on the street. It would be better to get the key upon arrival to the actual property.

Glenavon is in a calm neighbourhood with some trees close by and lots of roses outside the house. It is about 5 mins walk to the town centre (I don't have a car). I stayed for 2 nights. The bedroom I stayed in, and the shared bathroom, were very clean. The bed was comfortable and cosy and clean. There were clean and cosy towels and bathrobes. The shower was clean and very warm and plenty of water. There was good tea and coffee in the room and a big tv screen. I collected and returned the keys in person. The people were kind to me, and polite and friendly, especially considering that I was abrupt with them on arrival, as I had just read some bad reviews and I asked them about this. But they seemed good quiet people to me and it is a very nice B&B. They gave me a warm welcome and I liked them. It's a very good value, quiet, clean, cosy B&B. They do require a deposit for Glenavon. They have sent a message this morning that they are returning the deposit to me ("pre-authorisation cancelled") and I so guess it will be this week. I guess I would just say that Glenavon is their family home, so if you stay there you need to respect them and their home as you would your own ones. I tried to leave the room and bathroom clean and tidy, took my shoes off at the front door, and respected their home, as when I go to stay with my family.

There wasn't anything I didn't like.

Fairly close to the harbor which is where I needed to be. The room was tiny with a bathroom down the hallway which was all right.

Why can’t these places have numbered addresses?! All that was provided was the street name, city, and postal code. How do you expect people to find these places (not the first time I have encountered this, so the criticism isn’t limited to this property) who are using Google or Apple Maps to locate? Tried calling the number as I was wandering the street to see if I could get better information, and it kept going to an answering machine. Finally located the place with help of a local gentleman, by seeing the name of the place taped to the front door!
