Characterful and friendly but slightly overpriced.

Charming, characterful hotel with many period features. Friendly staff on reception who indulged my schoolboy German. Good breakfast buffet with smoked salmon in addition to the usual cold meat and cheese options. Having booked a single room, I was upgraded to a much bigger one with plenty of space. Very convenient for the university (where I had a lecture engagement), near to Dammtor station with good access to S-Bahn and mainline trains, and a fairly easy 25-minute walk into the city centre.

Cost was a bit high for what it was at 150 euros a night, especially given that the (very nice) breakfast cost an additional 18 euros. Carpets were rather dowdy and threadbare, and while there was nothing exactly wrong with the bed, it was a bit less comfortable than I might expect at this kind of price point.

Nice stay in an old style hotel with very spacious room. Close to public transport.

Close to university. Close to public transport with easy connection to station, city centre etc. Very spacious room and bathroom with bath tub. Chair, desk, and armchair with small side table. Unique style. I did not have breakfast, so no comment on that.

Bigger safe to hold a laptop would have been nice.

Clean Kind staff Good location, near the station

No air conditioning, although I didn't need it. They are not generous; they offer only a bottle of water for your whole time of stay, whatever your duration of stay. (at least they should put in a bottle of water each day.) No minibar or mini coffee.

The shower made the floors very wet! No way to contain or control shower water in beautiful renovated bathroom. Also the door locks were a bit challenging, when modern hotels use key cards.

An independent hotel in an excellent location….

An independent hotel in an excellent location. In a very charming way the rooms and facilities are slightly old fashioned. The breakfast, which cannot be booked via Booking.com (but directly with the hotel) is excellent and served in a charming breakfast room.

If you book a garage space and lock valuables in the room safe you have 3 seperate keys in your pocket.

I found the reception unfriendly. I got scolded for booking my room on booking.com as well as spending too much money because I made a mistake and booked a room for two when it was only me. The defaults on the booking.com website often changes it automatically to two and I didn't notice. Also I was no given a business receipt, which I typically get when I give my VAT number over booking.com but was told by the hotel this was not possible. Why not? in addition, I'm not a child and I resent being treated like one. I won't stay here ever again even though I have business in the area several times in the next few months.

Great locaion for anyone who visits the university. Close to the train station. Very friendly personnel and excellent breakfast. The breakfast staff was a bit rushed but still kind. Simple rooms but great shower and very clean!
