The amazing location & the facilities.
Little dated… but otherwise nothing else.

The room was clean and tidy. The hotel is a little dated but absolutely fine. Breakfast was excellent and the hotel has a bar with a great selection of drinks. Location is incredibly beautiful and peaceful.
There isn't much we didn't like. Yes, the hotel is a little dated in areas but that is more down to our tastes. Not much in the immediate area but that is what we wanted. Be aware that the chain ferry to the other side of the river finishes between 5-6pm

The location is excellent, rooms are a good size. The staff are very helpful & friendly. The breakfast is good.
The beds were a bit uncomfortable due to the sunken mattress.

Staff were brilliant. Clean place. Food excellent.
Location very good and peaceful.
The room was very hot and when we asked if the heating could be turned we were informed that it couldn't. We couldn't change it in the room either. That was only downside.

Location excellent, views stunning, peaceful .
Stayed two years ago and had a lovely big room which made me want to come back with partner . On arrival was asked about my dog that i had apparently booked in to stay . I don't own a dog, ?
We had lovely views, but a shower that trickled water , curtains that didn't fully close , the room was stifling hot even with fan on ! Bed needed an upgrade , pillows awful and to top it off the room smelt of urine and we found dog hairs so obviously had been put in a room meant for pet stays .Very disappointed after last lovely room stay .

Great location and very pleasant staff.
We had the Oak suit as a special treat.. my 60th birthday.
The room is fab, very spacious with your one balcony and great views. Unfortunately the supersized bed was so warn and uncomfortable. And so disappointing. I slept in a 2ft area because it was so warn, you couldn’t ’climb out’ onto a different part of the bed. I ended up with sore hips and ended up sleeping on the sofa!!! Please please please replace the mattress.
The breakfast was a disappointment.
Had a full English with continental. The cooked breakfast was very basic and the continental…. Was very poor. The ‘pastries’ had disappeared so couldn’t have any!!! Not worth the price!

We have been going to The Royal Lodge for over 20 years now. The accommodation is always comfortable and clean, the bar is cosy, and the food is always excellent! Furthermore, Symonds Yat is such a beautiful place to stay. The owner and staff have always been very welcoming, too. Recently, we spent our 20th anniversary there. The owner, knowing this, helped make this trip an extra special one. See you again soon, and thank you!
Everything was perfect!

Beautiful location on the side of the river Wye . Immaculately clean. Staff very helpful and friendly . Food was amazing.
There was nothing to dislike

Perfect location, the food was absolutely fantastic the salmon wow. Staff amazing and the heating was on. Perfect
The shower was berserk, either you get burnt or freeze to death. The trick is hold it in your hand get it perfect and hand wash yourself. For a 4* hotel a power shower would have been great.

I did not have breakfast. I had to check out before breakfast time. Very disappointed.
Room was dated and smelt. Clash of music in the restaurant with music in the bar.

Great location and amazing views. Staff were lovely & breakfast was nice.
Beds were very uncomfortable and the rooms are very dated. Beds & mattress need changing & decor needs updating.

A very comfortable hotel in a beautiful setting close to the river. We were a family party, celebrating a 60th wedding anniversary. The staff were exceptional, and made the occasion very special.

The evening meals were excellent with a brilliant chef who was willing to swap the menu to facilitate my dairy free issues.
No fruit other than grapefruit available at breakfast. Lots of pastries which as I am dairy free I was unable to eat. So breakfast was a bit boring. Just weetabix and milk.

Breakfast was very good. Room was basic, but adequate - small shower, but it worked ok. Very small tv (not that it bothered me). Great view from the window of the Wye valley.
Hotel location was great if (like us) you wanted to explore the river Wye by canoe/kayak.
Staff were very helpful and pleasant/polite - made the place welcoming.
The whole place is a little old/tired. It was almost like going back to a B&B/hotel from the 70s, the piped music at breakfast being a good example with classics such as "Georgie Girl", "I Left my Heart in San Francisco" etc.. We stayed 2 nights, and I got the impression they only had the one CD, as it was the same music each morning!
The other gripe was the prices - breakfast was £16, although it was tasty. Heineken at £7.25 and session bitter at £6 per pint was certainly excessive - the Wye Valley isn't central London.
Despite these criticisms, I'd still stay again due to the location, and the friendly staff.

Friendly and helpful staff. Pleasant room. I don't really get why hotel rooms don't have baths any more, or indeed a small fridge for my bottle of water!
Could have done with a lift to upper floors, as I have arthritic knees and there were quite a lot of stairs to negotiate.

The staff are fantastic and the location is perfect for lots of beautiful dog walks right on the doorstep. We have stayed before and will stay again.
Some of the facilities are a little dated, but functional nonetheless. To be expected at the price point.

Location, outdoor seating area, relaxed vibe
Price of food is incredibly high, won’t ever eat here again, sneaking in a 10% service charge even after the price of the food, even the staff agreed it’s way over priced! price of the drinks, £8 parking fee, outdated bedrooms and decor in general - real need for refreshing, the tvs are 15 years old and terrible, beds uncomfortable, really loud rooms around you, thin walls.

Location beautiful, food delicious, staff extremely welcoming and friendly.
A bit out dated and old the bedroom and bathroom.

The hotel is ideally situated to explore the walking trails at Symonds Yat. The room we stayed in was a good size, clean and the bed was comfortable. We had dinner and breakfast at the hotel and all the food we had was very tasty and presented very nicely. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful.
The room we stayed in was a good size but the en-suite was tiny with a shower and toilet. The washbasin was in the bedroom. There is an additional charge for parking.

The breakfast not good value for money. Ordered two poached eggs and that was all on the plate, no garnishing or toast came with it!! Grapefruit was the only choice of fruit to go with cereal …no other fruit was offered.
Lovely location… parking provided was good.
Access to the upstairs bedrooms is difficult for older guests, help with luggage up and down would have been appreciated. Also getting into and out of the bath with a slippery surface can feel dangerous.

The location.
Very expensive to stay here, breakfast NOT included. £16 EACH for that. Parking not included, £16 for that.
Evening meal, of which we did not partake, extortionate.
A panneer curry for ONE person, £26!
Most meals over £24.
Dog charge excessive, compared to many other hotels we
visit.
Although a very large room, it had a smell of dirty mop water.
So not a comfortable stay at all.
Choose wisely if you wish to stay here, pick a quieter time than August, due to the pub nearby, the best of British drunken shenanigans.

Nice location pleasant dining room and good food
I booked 2 rooms with on suite bathrooms 1 room was fine with a walk in bath room as you would expect. The 2nd bedroom had a shower and toilet in an area slightly bigger than a cupboard with a big step up into it and a sink in the bedroom itself. I don’t call that an on suite Given that I paid the same amount for both room I was very disappointed

We enjoyed the laid back, family feel. It's so nice not being in an anonymous corporate and bland hotel. Fantastic location. All the staff were super friendly and helpful. Highly recommend the 'Oak' room. The food was great too. Would definitely want to stay here
again. All good!!!
