Location was excellent for woodland walks and access to local villages.
Village pub 200 metres away.
Driveway a little narrow.
1.0 / 10.0
The fact that the stairs were incredibly steep and shallow making bedrooms and bathroom inaccesible to us.
The bath and therefore the fixed to the far end walls shower was unusable for location reasons.
The kitchen has one radiator located behind a breakfast bar with two tall heavy ( mdf?) bar stools. The same stools block the use of a double cupboard storage cupboard.
If there are more people than two the bar is not usable.
The cutlery and kitchen knives are cheap and nasty as is the furniture downstairs withe exception is the three piece suite, which although dated is comfortablr and most of the conservatory furniture..
However the lighting in both the sitting room and conservatory is abysmal.
The tiny log burner door blackens up completely within twenty minutes of being lit thus rendering the heat output negligible.
The garden which could be lovely was overgrown and looks absolutely neglected. Some of the wooden garden furniture rotting and the remnants of other wooden goods still piled in the corner.
Although dogs are accepted the garden is not secure and only moments from the road through to Monmouth.
The cottage is kept very clean.
We stayed only two nights.because our journey took us 6 plus hours and to drive back would have been unsafe.
Our basic needs for hygene I was able to take up stairs in my pockets.Nothing else.
My wife could only tackle the stairs with my assistance.
The second day of our stay the day was dark and very wet and chilly.. t he heating went off at lunchtime.I tried the controls all ways.No joy. I phoned the owner. Not in,left a message. No response..Repeated message some 2 hours later. No response The owner never did.
Please note that we are older but NOT disabled and manage well.
If we had been given knowledge of the problemswith the stairs and bathroom we wouod not have ever booked the property for any stay. The fee for our fourteen nights was in excess of £1800
We have been given a refund for only the intended second week of our stay.

Lovely cottage BUT .,,…..
Not very dog friendly. We knew that the garden was not secure ? Would be so easy to at least fence of the bbq area) but wasn’t told dogs had to stay down stairs ( there was a fine of £50 plus if the dogs went on the duvets ) also the stair case was so steep if we had brought my mum as planned there is no way she would of made it up the stairs. She would have gave to slept downstairs on the settee !!!!!!!
Also there is a disused pond I the garden- no warning as very cleverly planted. Looked like the garden.
But there is still lots of horrid slurry water in in and depp enough for our dogs to swim and need a total wash. Which was very difficult as they went allowed up stairs to the bath toom !!!! No fence or warning. Thank goodness we didn’t bring my mother and grand kids an originally planned as the garden and house was totally u suitable. Especially the stair case

Very happy with the cottage, very comfortable and clean. Well equipped kitchen although I did miss my airfryer.
Central heating was easy to understand. Tried to get a fire going in the evenings but not very successful (hubbys technique I think)
I do think it would be good to mention steepness of staircase in info- not a problem for us, but would certainly be for anyone with disabilities.
Also, the garden is not enclosed, and therefore not dog friendly. Luckily our dog likes to stay by our side.
The bench /table outside the front window is not very stable. 2 people sat on the same side will topple it ( as we found out )
The BBQ needs replacing ready for the good weather.
We still had a wonderful weekend, so please just take comments as constructive criticism. I would love to see the garden in its full glory, and would happily return .

In relation to my needs of nearby dog walks and pub the property was perfect. The rooms were large and airy. The garden was lovely but due to the rain we didn't really use it. It was quiet and very well equipped. The property was also very private. The welcome carrot cake was very much appreciated
My only real want would be a gate of some sort to make the garden secure enough for me to let my dog run around. I wouldn't leave the dog out alone but it would make for a more relaxed experience

Location was great for exploring Monmouth, Symonds Yat Rock and Tintern Abbey. Lovely pub close by which was great. Cottage was very comfortable and cosy. Very well equipped and the cake waiting for us on arrival was a nice touch.

What a lovely cottage. It has so much character but is also a good size. I loved sitting in the garden in the morning with my coffee and sketch pad. The rooms are a good size and the beds are comfy. The kitchen has everything you need. It was great to have the option of sitting in the conservatory or the lounge. The surrounding walks in the area are delightful and the White Horse Inn, the pub down the road, has good food and the staff are very friendly, closed on Monday and Tuesday though. We would definitely come and stay at Silhouette Cottage again.

Silhouette Cottage is just as lovely as it looks in the photos and the location is perfect for exploring the Forest of Dean. There is literally everything you need in the cottage. The garden is really lovely, lots of trees and shrubs full of birdsong. The White Horse is practically at the end of the drive and you are guaranteed good food, local beer and a warm welcome. Very dog friendly!
The staircase is quite steep (we're in our seventies!) and there was a leak in the conservatory.

This was our 3rd stay at the cottage. It is a beautiful cottage and has everything you could want. Its lovely to sit outside and watch the birds in the garden. It's a short drive from Coleford where there are several small supermarkets. It's around 15 minutes drive to some of the main attractions in the Forest such as Cannop ponds and cycle hire, Beechenhurst and the Arboretum.

great location near to fabulous pub and access to the Forest of Dean
could do with a main gate on drive preventing young children and dogs getting out

Excellent and well-equipped cottage. Lovely woodburner and all you could want for a comfortable stay. Really close to lots a places to see - historical architecture (Tintern Abbey and the Three Castles etc.) and nice small towns - and good walks. The weather was obligingly mild and we even sat out in the garden with a glass of wine every evening.

Cottage was very clean, comfortable and cosy. Great for walking the dogs around the village and close to places to visit such as Symonds Yat. We really enjoyed spending time in the cottage as well and thought it was really good value. We will definitely be back.

The tasteful Christmas decorations were a pleasant surprise.
The kitchen was exceptionally well resourced for utensils etc
The lack of a water jug.

What a lovely place to stay! Loved having a conservatory to eat in looking out at the birds and trees. Well equipped kitchen, lovely and clean throughout, beautiful big garden, loos upstairs and downstairs is handy. The location is spot on, very quiet even though its by the main road. Lovely walks and a pub a 2 minute walk that serves some of the best food we've had in a pub! Perfect holiday.
Having to leave!

Beautiful house with everything you need! Quiet location very suitable for a group of adults. We were able to easily get to local activities including paddle boarding and visiting puzzlewood. Enjoyed a visit to the local pub and had some perfect cosy nights in.
Not a dislike but just a warning for anyone planning to stay with children or elderly, the stairs indoors and outdoors are very steep and narrow but the whole house is perfect regardless just take care

location, garden, equipment .
Shower was weak and we were expecting an extra bathroom as per the Booking.com description. This has now been amended. Stairs were steep , which were fine & cute, but tricky for us oldies!
