Great place to stay

Central location, in easy access to the town, harbour and beach. Good views from the attic bedroom. The property is stylish and spaces with everything you need for a relaxing break. Good sized kitchen to accommodate a full house. The hosts even put up a Christmas tree and decorations. Parking included, a little tight, just enough for 2 cars.

The whole property needs a deep clean. It all looked good at first glance. Several surfaces need stains removing or a wipe down. The utility floor was filthy, had not been cleaned in a long time. Mould in the bathrooms. The property is in need of several repairs. Cracked tiles, cracked toilet, broken kitchen cupboard doors, bathroom tap which will not turn off, the front door needs adjusting. I was surprised that the host did not provide a welcome pack.

Great location. Comfortable bed. Well equipped kitchen.

Where this was once rated a 5 star property, it really does need some love and that takes away from it. It could be a beautiful house but they’re numerous small repairs and upgrades which are needed. Providing tea and coffee would be a nice touch. The toilet on the top floor was completely broken so we were unable to use that for the weekend.

very enjoyable, a nice property with good facilities in an excellent location. Love to return.

Location is excellent, although if you have a sizeable car take care how you approach the property as the road it is situated on gets very narrow in places, for example the Tesco van could not get close to the property he had to park up the hill some way off. But for Whitby itself Albany House is perfect. Just a few minutes stroll takes you into the town centre and nowhere in Whitby tself is far away as it is so compact. The two car parking places were very welcome. Plenty of hot water and good force from the shower. Beds were comfortable and the house was clean and nicely appointed with some style. Kitchen facilities are good and with two young children the washing machine and dryer were well used.

Parking for two cars was welcome but was situated round the back of the house accessed via the road and down a slope (this is Whitby after all!) so not very convenient for loading/unloading suitcases and heavy bags etc. you cannot park ourside the property as it is on a narrow but well used road. Two cars do fit but only just and only if they are not too big. A Honda HRV and Nissan Leaf totally filled the available space lengthwise. The extractor fan in our bathroom did not work which meant leaving the window open onto the busy street below. Noise, from people outside at times was not welcome, particularly if you like a window open during the night, but this is not the same for all the bedrooms as they do not all back onto the busy street at the front. Seagulls also make quite some noise during the early hours but that is hardly the fault of the property. But something to bear in mind although it did not bother us too much.

Albany House is a lovely property in the fabulous town of Whitby. We had a great stay!

A lovely house in a good location. Well appointed and nicely decorated and furnished. Comfortable beds with good linen. A bonus to be able to park the car so close to the house.

A few little things, many mentioned in the guests' comments book, which, if addressed, would have justified the 5* grading. (Bedroom doorhandle loose, mould in the bathrooms, paint on the sockets.) However, these things weren't bad enough to prevent us booking again.

rubbish service from the agent

well located beds were comfortable

only one entrance, no fire exit, the door lock malfunctioned and locked us out of the property late at night, we had to book into a hotel as Sykes were useless and just left us without an alternative. they did not replace the lock until the next morning and did not extend our check out time.
