I booked a two night stay with my mum to celebrate my birthday. We were able to book a twin room, which are increasingly hard to find these days. The room was lovely with views over the gardens. Robes were provided, which was a nice touch and a mini fridge was a bonus to store a small bottle of milk. Very comfy beds. Breakfast was very generous and the food was great. We also had afternoon tea one day and an evening meal in the restaurant during our stay, both of which were amazing. It was one of the best afternoon teas I've had. We couldn't eat all the cake so the waitress wrapped it up to take to our room and stash in the fridge for later. The staff were really lovely, really friendly and helpful. It is a heritage building which is beautifully decorated and retains a lot of period features. The lounge is particularly nicely done with comfy chairs and a selection of books. It is a good place to chill before dinner. There is no bar but you can order drinks served to the lounge. There is no lift and the entrance is via a flight of stairs then more stairs up to our room but staff did make us aware of this when I booked.
The toilet was very noisy when refilling the cistern, which was annoying during the night

A short walk into town and the railway station.
The place was more a B&B than a hotel and could just about be considered 4 star, more 3 star. It was pleasant enough, and good value for a 3 star but I'm just annoyed that I was fooled by the photos and rating.
