Gold Beach Hotel & RESIDENCE

I would have to say that the only thing good about the hotel is the location is proximity to the beach. It is literally 5 minutes to walk onto Gold Beach. But that is the only good thing.

Let's start with the room itself. While I understand that the pictures of rooms on the Booking websites are doctored to make the rooms look more appealing, we were not prepared for what what we found. The sink faucet and toilet were filthy, which I guess I could have lived with but then there was a problem with the water. For our first night, my spouse and I had to take a freezing cold shower. My spouse had already been complaining of a sore throat in the days leading up to our stay, but that was absolutely ridiculous. When I say no hot water, I mean zero hot water. The lady that was working the evening shift at the front desk wanted to help us, but she had not been trained on how to deal with situations like ours, so she said we would have to deal with it until the next day. I wrote the hotel through the booking website that night expecting an answer first thing in the morning, which never came. Instead, we had to go to the front ourselves and explain our situation again to the manager. The manager pretended it was no big deal. Turns out the problem was the circuit breaker was blown and had to be switched back on. After he did so, I explained to him that I think we should be compensated for the rest of our stay by way of free breakfast. He said no! That was absolutely shocking to me considering the amount of money I paid to stay there for only three days. Instead, he gave us one day of free breakfast, which he did not communicate to his employees because the next day they made us explain the situation again using one of their phones as a translator. That brings me to breakfast. They charge 12 euros per person and all you get is ham, salami, some yogurt, bread, apples, bananas, and a stick of cheese. It is all you can eat, but I have never eaten in a hotel that didn't offer eggs, which are cheap to purchase and boil. I would not suggest eating breakfast there unless you absolutely must or it is free.

The room was excellent: comfortable beds, good shower and quiet. Ground floor with easy access. The secure access to the car park was excellent as we had many items in our car as we were moving back from Spain.

Breakfast was awful. No hot food, stale bread, tiny croissants, unspreadable butter, orange juice that was thinned to no taste. The worst breakfast we've had.

It's location, room Facilities and bathroom was good.

Could do with a tidy up in rooms. A little lick of paint here and there. And bathroom scrubbed a little better in corners. Could do with more Pillows on beds as very thin and tired feeling bedding.

Good location and decent sized family room

Room was spacious with a kitchen. Location was perfect and central to everything we wanted to see

Room could have used a good clean and sweep. Some more attention to cleaning would be good.

Great location. Close to the beach. About an hour drive to the ferry terminal. Easy self check-in at the terminal

Bed was really good and the location near to the D-Day beaches

The location was perfect, right next to the beach. Beds were fantastically comfy. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Slightly tired looking rooms and not spotlessly clean. Internet was hit or miss. Saying that, it wouldn't stop me from using this hotel again

It would seem that this hotel is very popular with schools. We had a 2 night stay with school parties present on both nights. Not a place to come if you’re looking for peace and quiet.

I am very glad we hadn't pre-paid for breakfast - we arrived to be told two "groups" were staying as well so breakfast would be busy. We quickly discovered those two groups were schools and we were staying between the two groups. Even the teachers had no regard for others, standing in the hallway shouting from early in the morning until late. It was disappointing that we couldn't get a courtyard or balcony because the schools had those all booked. A little heads up beforehand would have been appreciated. Clearly staff were busy with the schools as the room was not particularly clean and the change of towels was rushed. The air con/heating did not work either.

The location is good for visiting The Landings area. Personnel courteous.

Hotel needs a good amount of renewals and renovations. Really need it.

Stains in toilet. Tv difficult to start. Some plugs did not work

In one of the 2 family rooms the shower was horrible, badly maintained, and dirty

it was clean, neat and tidy. the staff were very helpful and friendly.

as it is winter the room was cold when we arrived and it took a while for it to heat up.

Location excellent for visiting beaches and memorials. Fabulous day out at Bayeux.

Bathroom was a little tired.
