Kisoji no Yado Iwaya

Had a room with the river view, was really nice to hear it. And had onsen

We only stayed for a night, wish could stay longer, a bit old but rich in history.

This place felt quite pricey when we booked, but we didn't realise it included a beautiful banquet dinner and breakfast - traditional Japanese - what a treat. The staff were amazing - particularly the waitresses at the meals. We loved using the onsen on the top floor - wonderful as part of it is outside. It is in a lovely part of the town and we had a wonderful morning exploring the pathways along the river. The room was so spacious with mezzanine floor and living space. This was a great way to experience traditional Japan.

The pillows were uncomfortable but this was typical for all of Japan.

Our stay in Kiso was perfectly fine for what we needed. The location was great, especially for exploring the area, and it was reasonably priced. The accommodation was clean and comfortable enough for a short stay. Nothing particularly special, but it did the job and was good value for the location.

The accommodation was a little smaller than we expected from the photos, and unfortunately we didn’t find the mattresses particularly comfortable. That said, the property was clean and in a good location, so there were definitely positives, but overall it didn’t quite live up to our expectations when comparing to other stays in Japan.

Delicious food breakfast and dinner. Very clean rooms.

Booked this stay for an onsen experience and on this front it was disappointing - the wood was rotting on the walls in the indoor bath area, and outside was far from relaxing with the constant sounds of diesel generators going.
