An excellent location, extremely comfy bed and spotlessly clean and presented beautifully.

We did not infact have to find our keys as as lovely gentleman met came out and showed us where we were staying. The room was just beautiful and the bed so very comfy. We loved every minute of it and will definitely be booking again if we have to come to Wirral again.

Value for money

Easy self check in and out, clean rooms, all amenities needed including tea coffee milk towels, shampoo etc. Radiators on when arrived so warm and comfortable.

Not the easiest to find in the dark, perhaps better signage to the apartments. Pillows a bit flat but didn't affect sleep.

Gardeners Mews

The location was beautiful. The staff were incredibly accommodating and Gardeners Mews was a lovely, spacious apartment where we were able to relax and unwind in the evening. Will definitely be returning!

The only minor issue was with the beds, the mattresses could ideally do with being replaced. While it was comfortable enough, there were deep dips in each bed which my husband found affected his sleep. Having said that, it did not detract from our overall wonderful experience there.

Very comfortable

We arrived late and struggled to find exactly where to go in the dark, but a call to the out of office hours number soon put us right. The room was comfortable with a good shower in the bathroom. There was a fridge in the room and plates, knives, forks, spoons if you wanted to bring back a take-away I guess, but we were not aware until we arrived. The grounds and surrounds were lovely. On arrival the heaters were on and the room was warm and welcoming...

Just a little hard to find precisely in the dark...

Quick Break

We really like staying at Thornton Manor with its extensive gardens. We usually stay in the Gate House but was in the Housekeepers Annexe which covered all our needs and parking was no problem. The room contained everything one needs for a comfortable stay.

Excellent stay, staff are friendly and the apartment is ideal for families.

The apartment is lovely, the beds are comfortable and the rooms spacious.

Although it’s fab to have 3 bedrooms, there is no sitting room. There is a small television in the kitchen with a dining table. Personally I would put another chair and television in the large bedroom to have a more comfortable place to sit.

Every visit feels like a break away from the norm, even if only one night, due to the history and scale of the property.

Love the history and grounds which provide great relaxation and exercise for us and our dog, who now just watches the hares race each other. Easy to book and access, and very clean, courtesy of lovely hosts, thank you!

A lovely location, great facilities but with some need of thinking about a couple staying

It’s location and layout were fantastic.

The stairway was not too obviously written about in the description. The windows were nailed shut. In the Jacuzzi there was dirt in the overflow and Jets There are some key items in the kitchen missing, e.g. Salt-and- pepper For a matrimonial bedroom, the bed were two singles joined together. Not so good if you amorous in the middle!

I thought id booked the thatched cottage, as id stayed there before( my mistake)This cottage felt too small, cramped and very tired. It felt in need of a good clean and updating. Very disappointed this time!

The instructions were not clear to an old fool like me, would suggest a couple of photos in the instructions of where to park, collect keys and room location would be helpful ? When I called the helpline, it was answered immediately and the person fell over themselves to be helpful. The rooms were truly lovely, spotlessly clean and comfortable. Cannot recommend them enough -- the very low price was the cherry on top !

Only very minor ding was the shockingly, painfully LOUD burgler alarm that went off. The person on the helpline again answered immediately and let me know it should go off by itself - which it did after ~20 mins. Pillows were a little soft for me.

A great stay in the large acres of land and historic buildings..

The property is very historical and most likely grade listed. Very old features and furnishings too

It is very undated and carpets need a change for sure. But old furniture was acceptable.

Large comfy rooms in lovely setting

Large bedroom, tastefully decorated though tired in some places. We had 2 single beds pushed together, and a large bathroom which is showing it's age but clean and functional. Lovely setting in an old building. There was a quiet fridge, kettle and toaster. No breakfast was provided so we had toast and marmalade. The TV did not work at all. The internet was good as there was a BT broadband box in the bedroom.

Directions to the place. There is no sign post on the road to indicate where to turn in. We drove past the actual entrance which is where the offices are, and took the next entrance up to the manor house another 500 yards further on which is not where the rooms are. There's no one at the manor house and again no sign posts or information guiding you back to where you need to be. Then once you do get there the place we were staying was right round the back in another outbuilding which looks derelict. If you got here in the dark you would never find it. The stairwell up to our room, was incredibly depressing, painted in a battleship grey, it felt cold and uninviting with a damp smell.

Gardener’s Mews - two bed apartment. Traditional and characterful setting.

Spacious living areas and bathroom; compact kitchen with everything we needed. Beautiful location with glorious grounds. Ample parking provision. Short road trip to Heswall.

This is an first floor apartment with quite a steep staircase for access and a set of four very steep steps to access/exit the lounge-bedroom a bit of a challenge for an octogenarian, but we managed.

Comfy rooms in a beautiful manor estate, a short distance from Liverpool

A fascinating 19th-century estate that seems to be in the process of transformation. The two-bed apartment was very comfortable and the grounds were lovely to stroll around. The estate is conveniently located for trips to Liverpool and there are plenty of dining options in the surrounding Wirral villages.

Two of us fell down the small series of steps between the main bedroom and the rest of the apartment -- no harm, we were fine! -- but it might need some subtle strip lighting for the nighttime.

Querky thatched cottage sadly lacking a little bit of love and luxury.

Kitchen and equipment was well equipped, location, view and local wildlife. Self check in was great.

Querky little thatched cottage overlooking lovely grounds and manor house. The building was in a state of disrepair (large cracks in floor tiles throughout) even though there was a hot tub the amenities were lacking (eg- not place for towel, safe access out spa stepping onto large rocks. expense of £50 per day just to use it.) The difference in comfort in the beds. Understandably singles brought together the main room was terrible left was really firm, right was soft and not supportive. Pillows also lacked comfort and have been well used, flat and lumpy. Each room was given towels but found them basic and small didn't even wrap around the 12yr old. We were visiting for 2 nights from Australia to see family in heswall and mainly stay in eco villa, cottages around the country etc. For the prices it lacked.

A core memory made

I loved the character of the room and building. I was so excited during my stay. It was also peaceful so I slept well and my dog relaxed more compared to our previous nights accommodation. I would have liked to stay longer to explore the grounds and area more. Some nice walks with dogs to be had there.

I was happy with everything but if you are looking for luxury then this isn’t it but for character, countryside and an escape from the world it’s perfect.

Wonderful stay at a beautiful old property in a great location

Communication from the Property was excellent, everything went to plan and were able to check in early. Instructions really helpful. The Property is beautiful and the highlight was the bathroom with an enormous bath/hot tub with large Shower Head.

Disappointing ..... easy problems to sort, make it clear on listing and clean just before guest!

Very easy and clear instructions. Beautiful countryside settings. Beds bedding and towels all spotless.

The listing of the property shows a hot tub in a garden. It is in reality a tub for four in a cottage for six! and fitted in a cobweb filled corner of a courtyard. The hot tub also had a leak as it was unusable in the morning as only half full. Each room had cobwebs and dead spiders in them, the windows needed cleaning, so whilst it was "clean", it was cleaned a while ago and not checked which made it feel dirty. The sitting room was crowded with oversized furniture that really let the sitting area down - there was not enough space for six people to sit down together. The kitchen had the smallest frying pan ever in it and making cooked breakfast for six - FUN! and such a shame when everything else you needed was there. The stairs to the third floor were STEEP and the ground floor bathroom made it a real challenge. Would I stay again - NO, did it effect our stay - No, but would I have booked if I had known of their only being one downstairs bathroom and hot tub for four in a cobweb filled corner with a leak (and charged an extra £50 for) - No.

The peace and quiet was great, probably helped by a lack of guests elsewhere but the apartment we stayed in is reasonably separate from other apartments and cottages. The grounds are amazing, albeit we only had the chance to see a very small part of it. We were very happy to get a good deal too.

My daughter found it a bit hot, possibly as a result of the building being made of sandstone. I imagine they’re quite thick walls, which retain heat. Everything else was great.

Lovely apartment

Lovely apartment with fabulous views out over gardens and grounds. Excellent location with an easy walk to two great pubs. We recommend both Seven Crowns and Red Fox. Close to motorway junction for easy access and safe parking.

Would be good to have a microwave oven in apartment. We did see people walking around grounds but wasn't clear if we had access.
