Oban Youth Hostel

Window of room open and no heating for a cold wet late arrival.

The hostel is well located. It's not right in the centre of town - maybe a five to ten minute walk from it, depending on where you think the centre is. It's right on the seafront with lovely views. The common rooms all face the front and are cosy and nicely decorated and lit. The guest kitchen is also large and very well appointed. The rooms are nice and the beds aren't too tightly packed. The branded duvet covers are adorable! The lockers are really spacious, which is excellent. The water pressure in the shower in my dorm on the top floor was excellent - really strong. The bed was comfortable, for my tastes anyway. The staff I dealt with were absolutely lovely! The person with the purple (or was it pink?) hair was particularly great - really friendly, which sets you up for a nice stay.

The only things I didn't like were small things like that the beds didn't have sockets right next to them so it wasn't possible to charge my phone while using it. The shower cubicle in my dorm was missing a curtain so that because of the high water pressure, it wasn't possible to keep any clothes taken in completely dry. The duvets were quite warm, which was unfortunate because of the warm weather but would be excellent in winter so that's not much of a complaint - the rooms actually weren't too bad in terms of heat levels with the windows left open at night. There isn't a TV in any of the common rooms (unless I missed it), which might matter to some people. But like I said, it's all really minor stuff that I look for just to find some negatives. It really is a very good hostel.
