Great staff. Good location - walking distance to Oxford central. Great breakfasts at a good price. Good value for money.
Rooms are on the small size so it was tight with bags. The staircase is steep and tight, and difficult with suitcases.

Location was great - 10 minute walk from Cornmarket Street.
Sam and his dad were really helpful, and Sam gave me great tips where to visit (Thanks, Sam).
Breakfast was great.
Room cozy and comfortable.
Hotel bar an added bonus.

Staff are nice and considerate. The breakfast is good. Location can’t be better.
I can only say the current construction work nearby is quite disturbing.

Comfy beds. Nice bathroom. Clean. Fantastic cooked breakfast. Relaxed dining area with a nice conservatory an garden.
Appalling level of noise from the building work taking place. Check if that is due to take place before you go. It started at 7.30am but was quite noisy all night.

It was close to the town and Theatre.
The host was pleasant upon our arrival but we feel he was somewhat economical with the truth. The local road works mentioned when we booked turned out to be a full on building site with noise throughout the night, thus making sleep in the very uncomfortable bed almost impossible. Heavy plant machinery and construction work started outside our window at 7am, so what should have been a special romantic mid week break was just a nightmare.
‘Breakfast included’ was just cereal, yogurt and a fruit cocktail. If you want a cooked breakfast that will cost you extra.
Wifi was very intermittent.
The room was small and basic, but clean.
Parking is off site with an additional charge.

The hotel was within very short walk from Oxford train station and the stuff was very nice. Walk to city center and the university is within 15 minutes.
Breakfast was very simple so we had to order something hot from menu.

Perfect location - I was travelling by train to Oxford and needed to get to John Radcliffe hospital by 7 the following morning and wanted a good nights sleep.

Great breakfast, staff really good.
Major Construction work outside which the hotel could do nothing about.
8.0 / 10.0
Cheerful and helpful staff - without fuss arranged for an extra night's stay.
Despite railway bridge closure* easy to walk from hotel to transport.
*Bridge closure meant no taxis hotel side of railway station - but we could walk through to buses, taxis and trains.
Parking at hotel opposite £12.50 per day.

Great location near the train station and walking distance to sites, restaurants, shops, etc. Breakfast was nice and staff were very friendly.
While we had been informed of the ongoing construction outside (not the property’s fault) the noise and hours were excessive.

The place was in a great location, it’s very close to everything!
The room was very clean, and the beds were very comfortable. Bathroom was lovely, I think it was done up recently because it was more modern than the room.
Staff were lovely and very helpful.
Water pressure wasn’t great
Internet was a bit slow, but the whole city is just kind of like that
Stairs are steep so just be careful
Not a complaint but there is construction going on at the moment so you have to walk through a construction path to get there

The bedding was clean and there was a fan in the room.
Unfortunately, I was unable to continue my stay in the Westgate Hotel and left on 18th July after 1 night, instead of the 3 I had booked and paid for in advance, because I found the room oppressive and stressful. I was concerned about the close proximity of the digger right outside my bedroom window, which at one point caused the whole building to vibrate, when digging close to the foundations.
I was forewarned that there would be building works outside the hotel during the day. However, I feel that the level of disruption I should expect during my stay was not fully communicated to me beforehand.
My room (Room 12) was dual aspect, and there were extremely loud building works right outside my windows continuously throughout the day (7am-10pm), which made it impossible for me to relax in the room (see photos).
I was unable to ventilate the room by opening the windows because of the noise and dust levels outside.
I attach photos taken from the two front bedroom windows.
I have been in touch with the owner to request compensation, but have not, as yet received a refund, although my email has been acknowledged, so I live in hope.
Aside from the building work, the hotel feels more like a hostel. The communal areas and bedroom carpets, walls, skirting & bannisters were very dirty, as was the TV remote.
The stairs are extremely narrow and steep, so if you have any mobility problems, you will struggle.
I hope that this review will help others to avoid the distressing experience that I had.

Breakfast was included at 11pounds per person per day. Do not opt for the breakfast included. It is unethical to offer a buffet breakfast without showing or describing it. We sent our kids, and specifically wanted a hotel where breakfast was included. This failed miserably, and I feel cheated. Ask them to send a pic of the breakfast buffet. It fits on a 1m long table.

Annex in a quiet location, convenient for attractions and restaurants. Clean, with comfortable beds. Staff extremely helpful.
On-going city roadworks made journey to hotel difficult.
Would have preferred private bathroom facilities.

Helpful staff, good breakfast assortment
Not the fault of the hotel, but major repairs are being done on the street and bridge outside, and it was very noisy.Earplugs made it bearable.

Great location across from train station but temporary road construction (July 2025) made location loud and difficult

The location.
*A Hotel That Forgot It’s a Hotel – Save Your Money.*
I stayed three nights at the Westgate Hotel in Oxford, lured by a rate 25% cheaper than nearby hotels. Now I understand why. This isn’t a hotel—it’s a budget hostel with a reception desk and a shocking lack of self-awareness.
Let’s dissect the scam:
"Breakfast included" means:
- Coffee (acceptable, but hard to mess up).
- "Juice" that could pass for industrial coolant.
- A defrosted or pre-packaged Lidl/Aldi croissant—because nothing says hospitality like supermarket leftovers.
Upgrade to real food? Pay extra. Because why would a hotel actually feed you?
Parking? Technically, yes—for £12.50/day in a nearby lot (cheap for Oxford, but don’t confuse that for convenience). If you need an on-site car park, look elsewhere. This place won’t have one until the next ice age.
Now, the rooms—or as I call them, "the betrayal":
- Shared bathrooms down the hall (because privacy is overrated).
- No fridge, no water, no toiletries—not even the bare minimum you’d get in a prison cell.
- A vibe of "we converted a crumbling townhouse and called it an annexe."
The staff? Charming, polite, utterly powerless to fix the fact that this "hotel" is a bait-and-switch.
Final verdict: If you’re okay with paying for a subpar Airbnb experience with a fake hotel badge, go ahead. Otherwise, Oxford has real hotels—book one.

Comfortable beds, lovely breakfast, friendly service. The staff really made our two-night stay such an enjoyable experience, with all our needs met in a happy way.
The room was a bit small and Mum doesn't like stairs, but we quickly settled in and in the end didn't want to leave!

Location and paid parking was great.
Assumed the breakfast was cooked, but just fruit and toast. Given the distubance with building work which we were aware of and no fault of the hotel it didnt bother us that much and we were directly looking at it from our window.

The hosts were super kind and polite and the room was nice and tidy they try there best to meet your needs.
Location right next to train station, town is super walkable
Wifi is a bit weak

Oxford is an expensive city but here was a really affordable and lovely hotel, friendly staff and perfect location, easy access to train station and quick walk into the city. We stayed as a family and our 2-year old absolutely loved watching the trains, buses, diggers, skips and cranes from the construction site from our window.

Convenient, but it's the staff that really shine. I'm not sure I've ever dealt with hotel staff as friendly, considerate and concerned about your comfort.
The location is noisy with the nearby construction so we generally stayed away until it got quiet in the evening. However, the staff provide excellent screens for the windows to keep out the noise.

It is 10 minutes from the station so ideal if you are coming by train. They checked me in at 10am and took my bag. Room was clean and the bed very comfortable. Friendly staff.
There is no basin in the room, but next door there is a WC/wash basin.
