Great triple room with sofa. Lovely and warm in the cold weather. Friendly and helpful hosts.
Self service breakfast worked well.
The outside of the building isn’t great, but it’s the inside that counts!

Diana checked us in personally and offered a free room upgrade to a bigger room. The self catering kitchen was really good with a big range of cereals, breads, milk, butter and jams, plus hot drinks. All this made for a really relaxing stay.
The bar and restaurant are closed at the moment

A good clean room which is well located for my needs (although others may prefer a more central location). Always a friendly welcome.
The hotel has a kitchen for guests but no bar or restaurant. That's OK for me, but it won't suit all visitors.

This place is just wonderful!
The hostess makes you feel like like a welcome friend come to stay.
Ive stayed here many times now, each time was meant to be a 1 night stay but because the place is so cosy each time I've ended up staying 3 nights at a time
The views across the river are reason enough alone but add to that the warmth, the comfort and the kitchen/dining area really does feel like home from home
I look forward to returning many more times
The hostess greets you on arrival and shows you around all the essentials you need to know ...so friendly
Absolutely nothing at all

It’s a very quirky place. An old converted pub, now split off into a number of bedrooms. All uneven floors & angles. Full of old fashioned charm, but would not be to all tastes!
The lady who owns the property is however wonderful & so helpful.
It is a bit run down & looks quite shabby from the outside. The property also some very steep winding stairs so no good if you have mobility issues- no lift available!

Good location within walking distance of centre. Room lovely, comfortable, clean and well presented. Good communication and check in all went smoothly. Good view from the room on the top floor named the Laurel & Hardy Suite. The Boar Hotel has lots of history all on display. Lovely choice of cereals, bread, croissants and jams for breakfast. Diana is a lovely host and made us feel very welcome.

Rooms were lovely and comfortable.
The kitchen for guests was a great idea, help yourself to drinks, bread, croissants and cereals at no cost.
The entrance to the hotel was a bit underwhelming

Although unassuming from the outside, the hotel was cosy inside and v well appointed. Guests have access to a fully kitted out kitchen with a large dining table so guests can cook their own food. Breakfast is supplied for guests to help themselves: cereals, bread, top quality butter, tea, coffee (inc coffee machine), and hot chocolate. My room was v clean and the bed v comfy. Diana, the owner was very friendly and communication about arriving was just great inc warning me about the steepness of the first set of stairs. It has a handrail so no problems there. She gave me a tour of all the facilities and these include a terrace off the kitchen overlooking the river.
There wasn’t anything I didn’t like. The only thing I would say is that guests should bring everything they want with them as there are no shops nearby ie less than half a mile away.

It was a lovely quiet room and cosy. I felt safe as a lone female.
The stairs are very narrow but to be expected as it is an old building.

Liked the early checkin as I arrived at 1130 was shown all amenities and Diana the host was loverly. The location was fine just a 20-30 mins walk to the center of Sunderland.
The first flight of stairs are tricky going up and down, also some trip hazards so you had to watch your step on the landings. I was in a room facing the road and the noise of lorries and other traffic going past every 10-15 minites was anoying as the room is not double glazed and the wind sometimes was howling through the little gaps of the sash window so had a restless first night.

Shared kitchen so i can have breakfast at 0530.
There are no creature comforts here, no bar, no staff. But thats what it always says it is. Just clean rooms, own front door key kitchen area, an ok Italian underneath it. its fine Id stay there again, but dont expect frills

Third visit here and love it. We had a great room overlooking the river. A 5-10 minute walk from the city centre but is so quiet. We come here every time there is a gig in Sunderland. Love it!

The room was clean, coffee and tea in room.Their was also a kitchen with complimentary breakfast items. A short walk into town. The hotel was at side of the river. Their was a resteraunt on sight, didnt use this, but it seems to have good reviews.
The stairs leading up to the room were steep, not a problem for us, may be for other people. Nothing else negative .

The room was very clean and warm at night. The manager met us and explained everything as well as giving a contact for any issues. Communication was very good. She also helped with any attractions nearby to visit.
Lunch and the evening mean was in the Italian restaurant on the ground floor. The restaurant was superb. Great value great taste.

Room was fine. Breakfast (self service) was plentiful. Host was very friendly and helpful.
A bit of a walk from the town/station but would probably be quite nice in warmer weather.

Could not fault this hotel at all , the room was fantastic with a view over the river ( only wish we had found this place earlier) , was clean and tidy and the staff were great. This is my place to stay in my future trips to Sunderland.
Can’t find anything to dislike about this hotel at all

Location and lady who greeted us was lovely
Stairs to room were extremely steep and narrow. Room was advertised as deluxe but was far from it. Very poor quality. Bed was creeky and uncomfortable. Headboard was crooked and bed scooted across the floor when you sat on it. Pillows were flat and hard. Bathroom stunk like sewerage or damp. Decor needed some attention. There was also a pump or motor that was turning on and off every couple of minutes that kept us awake all night. Breakfast room was small with only one table, it was already occupied so we didn't have breakfast. Car park had a pile of building rubble and entryway to hotel looked very shabby. The restaurant downstairs, by comparison was beautiful. Also our room faced the road, not the river, so none of the advertised views.

Diana was a lovely host, great communication with her about the checking in procedure. This is a very historic building so not an option for anyone looking for modern amenities. however super charming. It was also great value for money. Serve yourself breakfast in the kitchen was great as guests were not tied to a schedule.
A bit of a walk away from the center of town.

Quirky little hotel, lovely and clean and comfortable. Wasn’t expecting a communal kitchen with lots of breakfast items available, nice touch!
Nothing to do with the hotel but the seagulls are so noisy early in the morning’
