Alam Shanti Ubud

What I really liked about this place was the incredible spectacle of monkeys all around the property, it gives the place a real presence and makes the stay feel very unique. Being right next to the Monkey Forest makes it feel like you’re properly in the jungle, which is very cool and adds to the whole experience. We didn’t even go monkey Forrest as we felt we had that in our villa. We also had our own private pool, which was a great feature, although we didn’t get time to use it. The room was well prepared for the environment, with mosquito nets around the bed, which made sleeping comfortable. Breakfast was brought to our room each morning and was actually very nice, and the staff were all very friendly and welcoming. The location is also great — set on a quiet little road but only about a 5–10 minute taxi ride to the main town area.

There were quite a lot of ants around the patio, and because of the sliding doors they could sometimes get inside. The main entrance door to the apartment used a padlock rather than a key, and even when the door was shut it could still open slightly, and didn’t feel secure, which meant mosquitoes could get in quite easily as well as security in general. Overall, it felt like the place could really benefit from newer windows and doors that seal properly. The toilet was also separate from the main room and was accessed through another door that only locked with a simple bolt, it has an outside feel. This made my girlfriend feel a bit uneasy because it felt quite separate from the main room, and there was space where monkeys could potentially get in, so she would sometimes check before going in during the morning. These aren’t playful monkeys either, they’re wild monkeys and can seem quite aggressive. Although there were mosquito nets around the bed, the area itself has a lot of mosquitoes, and because the doors and windows don’t fully seal, the air conditioning didn’t feel as effective as it could have been. The room could definitely have been cooler. The area itself is quite quiet at night, and if you want a late dinner, many restaurants close around 10pm. This isn’t the fault of the hotel, and you can still order food, but it’s just something to be aware of. I don’t think it’s a bad hotel. I actually really enjoyed my stay there. I thought it was very one of the most unique hotels I’ve ever stayed in.

The location is very good, there are many restaurants nearby, I liked that it was quiet, it is close to things to see in Ubud. The service staff is very friendly. The place is spacious, my kids loved the pool. Breakfast was good.

Sometimes monkeys come, if you are empty-handed, don't try to chase them away, they won't be afraid, on the contrary, you will be afraid. The whole facility is old and needs a major renovation. Some of the bath towels were very old and faded. The water heater was rusted.

Amazing place to stay! It was exactly what we expected from a vacation in Ubud!
