Unico Hotel Riviera Maya Adults Only

The property here is wonderful, new and clean and modern. The Staff were incredibly attentive and friendly. Our host Laura Flores went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed, including chairs reserved, dinner reservations and information about daily activities. The food was very good and the French restaurant Avec was a standout. Restaurant manager Patricia was incredibly sweet and kind.

The main issue we had and which was in stark contrast to the rest of our experience here; is that upon arrival we were offered complimentary massages if we would attend a breakfast presentation first thing the following morning to learn about several other hotels that the company had. We were not aware that this was a membership sales pitch because we were unaware that there even was a membership program. We sat through the breakfast without knowing this and then shown an ocean front suite. Afterward we were taken to the offices where we learned that if we pay $40,000 plus annual fees we can get 25% off a room regular rate with the coupons they will give us or a low weekly rate on “nothing special” time shares world wide. The pressure was intense. No time to even consider if this is something we wanted. Make a decision right now, Give us money, Finance the rest. Not worth a massage to be so irritated. I would have never agreed to this had I known.

The food was excellent, fresh and great taste.

The resort was far away from any activity. Building number six smelled like sewage in the hallways. The outside of the building cleanliness is being neglected. The pools are not heated, and all the pools are made of gravel that hurts the bottom of the feet.

The grounds were well maintained, but the variety of activities were bland. Especially with rainy weather, there was not much to do at this property.

I did not like the sales pitch at every turn. We had vacation person start calling us the first day we were there, so we decided to hear what he was talking about, but turned in to a pushy expensive sales pitch similar to a time share pitch. The guy seemed to pop up everyday no matter where we were on the property. Also, the property had no transportation, so we were forced to use expensive taxis. It would have been great for the resort to have some transportation to the major locations such as Tulum or Playa del Carmen.
