Warm Hospitality in Beautiful Valley Maggia

We stayed here in between two long hiking stretches through the mountains, and it was the perfect stop to rest and recharge. The location is right in the heart of the charming little Valley Maggia, with beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and the town. The host was super friendly, helpful, and made us feel very welcome. Even though the restaurant wasn’t fully open to the public, he still prepared dinner for us, which was such a nice gesture. The terrace was a great spot to relax in the evening, and breakfast the next morning was lovely-with free pastries and fresh local produce to choose from. A really cozy and enjoyable stay! And as a sweet surprise, we were even gifted a jar of homemade jam when we left.

Just a heads-up: the rooms are in an older building, so while everything was clean and comfortable, the standard is more on the simple side (he charm of the place and the warm hospitality more than made up for that)

Everything was amazing!! Firstly, Giacomo is an incredible host, he really made our stay special, his attention to detail, friendliness, and generosity was beyond our expectations, so thank you 🙏 Secondly, the location is so beautiful, views of the mountains, the cute village with friendly locals, and access to local buses to discover the picturesque valley, you couldn't ask for more. Finally, all the other little details, the room was huge with wonderful views and a super clean. Breakfast was delicious, as was the other food we tried, and it was great value for money, especially for Switzerland. We would love to return in the future, just to say hi to our fantastic host, good luck with the business Giacomo, grazie mille!

Amazing gem

This is a wonderful B&B in the heart of the most beautiful surroundings imaginable. After a two week trip in Europe, our two nights here were our favorite! The breakfast was amazing and the host could not have been more wonderful. The views from the rooms were gorgeous and there is easy access to amazing waterfalls, mountains and trails. We can’t wait to return!

We chose the hotel for its location and it did not disappoint in that regard. Our host was helpful and friendly. Good breakfast.

The room was tiny and cramped. Separate bathroom was private but a few steps away from the room. Need to go up and down narrow steps to navigate to room, bathroom, breakfast room, and external patio area. The photographs do not give a clear indication of just how small the room is. We left after one sleepless night, forfeiting the second night's cost.

Perfect local Ticinese experience in a dream natural setting

It is always a pleasure to stay at Don Jon. My favourite place to stay in Ticino. Where to start? Always a friendly welcome from the guy at reception, an excellent sizable breakfast, a beautiful and quiet location in the middle of nature, the lovely garden with its kiwi trees growing over your head and the view on the mountains, the delicious food (highly recommend both the gnocchi and the risotto, both incredibly delicious and mean that you don't even have to travel far for excellent local Ticinese dishes. The Ticinese wine speaks for itself, you cannot go wrong with the Merlot, both red and white, perfection), the friendly and charming waitress (portuguese), big comfy room with nice balcony view onto mountains, will keep coming back, certo! Grazie, Don Jon!

Very rustic location, nice and helpful personnel, despite the rustic atmosphere, the room and bathroom were modern and decorated with good taste. The location was perfect - between the valley, alps and Locarno. The restaurant at hotel was perhaps the best of what we visited at our Swiss tour.

A gem of a place!

The food, the back garden with the sunloungers, our big spacious room with balcony and the quiet little village of Someo - all simply fantastic! Daniele, the host and chef has great taste in both decoration and food and Teresa the waitress is super friendly and efficient yet takes her time to explain everything you need to know. We came all the way from Ireland because we heard about ‚Donjon‘ and we will be recommending this gem of a place to anybody we know that would like to stay in the area of Locarno. Hard to beat this kind of quality with the reasonable prices. Grazie Daniele e Teresa, alla prossima 😃😃
