Closeness to Murrayfield (right opposite!)
Nothing - was as advertised and good value for money

The location
Room was in a poor state of repair with dirty stained furniture. There was mould growing around the window and the bathroom had a build up of scum in the shower, tiles around toilet broken and handle flush hanging off.

Location was excellent. Both to the airport and city centre. It was also not that expensive.

The location, when booked the room came with free parking and breakfast
When booked it included breakfast and free parking, as it had new management we had to pay £15 for parking, and they didn’t do breakfast, the room was dank the whole place needs updating

The room was comfortable and did the job. A desk to work and decent Wifi connection. Check-in and out is simple. Good selection of beers
The establishment does not serve evening meals or breakfast.

No food available but this was because the hotel had reopened under new owners

The location is great for rugby but... facilities subjugated to the drinking fans. Nothing else wowed.
but on rugby weekends forget charging or even parking a car, expect portaloos and a ground floor full of fans drinking with nor restaurant service. We chose partly because of the car parking and charger and would have cancelled on discovering neither available but had a non refundable booking - 4 chargers put out of service by a row of porta-loos and several picnic tables. The management said the restaurant was closed but they had a stall with chicken & chips and curry but this was gone by the time we walked there from the match so Tesco sandwiches was a disappointment. As for the name the Whisky House Hotel... great ambition but a most dissapointing array of about 8 single malts of no great distinction was our lot - we have more at home. A top shelf housed about a half dozen more interesting looking malts but these we were told were their clients own whiskies kept at the hotel. The shower was small with a fair bit. of black mould and a very stiff bifold door. The ensuite was small. The size of the room could accommodate a could have easy chairs but there is one dressing table chair. Sitting on the bed to read or watch TV was not particularly comfortable due to a paucity pillows and no cushions. The Pillows were all the same stiff synthetic sort - I prefer a plump-able mouldable feather pillow but a good hotel would offer a range. There was no in-room info about the hotel's services, bar prices, room service or even wifi code- I think I saw 'free wifi' on booking.com but perhaps it was in a review - we just made do with limited 4G and were glad of paper books as the TV only offered terrestrial Freeview. Our request in advance for decaf tea and coffee fell on deaf ears, no tea, and just 2 sachets of instant coffee in the room - but more were provided when we went and asked at the bar.

The staff member on was very friendly and helpful
The hotel is not the Edinburgh whisky experience we expected from the advert, in fact it seems it wasn't even open to the public yet... no signs anywhere, they served no whisky and the keys still said the Hamilton... I would have never spent almost £120 on a hotel that wasn't actually operating the way it was advertised. I asked for the Deluxe double bed and got 2 singles pushed together, not exactly the romantic get away we were hoping.

Lovely old building.
Friendly owner and other lady.
Very quiet, despite busy road outside.
Comfortable bed, with cotton sheets and warm doona.
Soft towels.
Beautiful leadlight window beside the staircase.
On-site cosy bar.
Very short walk to Murrayfield rugby stadium if attending matches.
Parking in front yard, with electric chargers, if needed.
Mini Tesco 5 mins walk away.
Steep double staircase up to room.
No internet available in room.
Very noisy shower hot water unit.

I really didn't particularly like anything. I did not eat breakfast there, so I can't comment.
This is not really a hotel, it is a Pub with some rooms upstairs. The rooms are decorated in thrift store 1970's style. The rooms are large, the bed is ok. The property is located far, far from where tourists would like to be in Edinburgh, and you have to walk 10 minutes to get the bus. One night I went to the pub for some decaf coffee, and the wait staff completely ignored me. I sat there about 10 minutes while they buzzed around serving and chatting with everyone else, and I finally had to get up and ask if I could have some decaf. Then, when I was ready to leave the restaurant, there was no one there to pay. Eventually I left, and went back the next day to pay my bill. Very weird. All I can say, is that I would not recommend staying there, despite the price, which is about $200 a night, and really cheap for Edinburgh.

The deluxe double room was huge! The bed was super comfy. There was a sofa in the room so it made reading and watching TV so much better. The food was really nice and reasonably priced. On the main route for the airport bus. Would definitely stay there again.

Good location nice breakfast staff very good
The room was of a really poor condition like a throw back to the 70s in very poor condition even a lick of paint would have helped the problem is it Edinburgh so they charge what the going rate is it was the worst room we stayed in for many years not what I would expect these days

Bar and restaurant had a great atmosphere and looked very appealing. Staff and owner very kind and helpful
The hotel side was very outdated and not worth the cost of the room

If you don't mind walking it's in a good location, 20 mins to the zoo and 35 mins into the city centre. The bus stop is close by and only costs a couple of pounds to get into the centre.
The staff were really helpful and friendly, the food was good.
The property is feeling very tired and needs some tlc to bring what is a reallly nice old building back to a stunning one.

Lovely wee hotel, large airy room comfortable bed. Great cooked breakfast. Hotel is situated far enough to be just out of the city centre but on a main bus route so only 5 to 10 minutes into the centre depending on time of day. Staff lovely and friendly.

The room was quite spacious with large windows facing the street. The location is easily accessible with public transport.
The interior is quite dated. Also, the traffic noise during the night was terrible as the airport busses and other transport passed by the whole time.

On arrival the manager was very welcoming. Most of the staff were very friendly. The shower was good.
The room was very dated and could do with being refurbished. The carpet was stained, broken tiles in the bathroom, the blind was broken. Very dark and depressing room. The chef didn't turn up the first morning so the waitress, Maisy, had to cook and serve. She was very stressed but did her best. The waitress the second morning was very brusque. Breakfast was just about adequate both days. No vegan alternative to butter or yoghurt, no fruit, no pastries. We were not asked what sort of toast we wanted or how we wanted our eggs or what sort of tea we wanted. This is not really a hotel, more a pub with rooms. I thought it was very expensive for what we got.

Lovely building. Very quiet location; no noise apart from the birds in the morning.
Cosy room and good amenities (dressing table, full length mirror, tea tray, wardrobe etc). Enough bed linen and towels.
Location ideal for what we wanted to see/do: 20 mins by bus (every 10 mins) from the airport; 15-20 mins by bus (several going every few mins) to the city centre; 20 mins walk from the zoo. Bars, restaurants and shops on the doorstep.
Staff very friendly and helpful, and the breakfast (a la.carte) was good.
Would definitely return.
Mattress rather too firm for my liking (and I like a firmer mattress). Room quite compact but they did have more spacious ones.
Walls quite thin in the hotel so could be noisy when it's busier.
