The views, and the charm and character of Orta San Guilio and its people will stay with us forever. The absolute highlight of a train based holiday in France and Italy where all our stays exceeded our expectations. Stefano was a wonderful host, answering any questions before our stay, recommending great walks and places to visit, eat and shop, and kindly driving us to the train station. We stayed at the apartment during an unexpected heatwave in June. Using the blinds for the main picture window for a few hours in the day to cool the main room as well as the fan provided really helped and the air conditioning unit in the corridor behind the kitchen cools the bedroom nicely. Four nights there gave us the time to truly relax, enjoy and get to know a unique and beautiful place, with its lake and island views, and gorgeous buildings wherever you look and wander. We did a peaceful loop walk of the Orta San Guilio part of the lake, took a boat trip across to Lagna and to Pella and loved The Way of the Silence on Isola San Guilio. The Sacro Monte UNESCO world heritage site was also quiet when we were there and well worth the climb to. We saw a red squirrel there, and loved the birds, dragonflies and butterflies on our walks and boat rides. We fell in love with the stunning views of the lake and island from the apartment and it felt like a dream being there!

The view was outstanding and will remain a memorable part of the holiday. Very convenient for restaurants etc but quiet location.
