Everything was great ! It was the most spontaneous visit and I loved everything and will go back ! It was in such a secluded area, so comfortable, I was cooking my favourite meals at the self -catering kitchen . Amazing place and amazing staff

Amazing building, lovely clean room and facilities. Shower and sink in each private room.
Mattress extremely uncomfortable and pillows hard. However I’m not complaining as all was great value for money!!

Excellent value bunk rooms in lovely old house. Rooms are spacious and beds.comfortable. Plenty of lounge areas to socialise. Food is very decent for mass catering.. Fantastic value for money.
Room was a little cold but it was a small point - bring warm clothes.

Staff and clean beds
Very loud guests. You could hear everything through the walls and ceiling. Communal area was really crowded. No heating in the bedroom it was freezing

It’s a very well kept hostel, very well organised and clean with many communal areas to choose from. I loved its settings, the property is beautiful.
I liked everything but the communal kitchen is on a small side. With so many guests it would be good to have a slightly bigger kitchen.

Fantastic old building in a great location
Nothing at all really - only slight disappointment was there didn’t seem to be the usual selection of board games to play that most other hostels have.

Lovely old building with original features in a lovely village.
Good value for money.
Clean sheets and reasonably comfortable bed.
It was cold, but expected in such an old property.
There was noise until 3am and then started again at 6.30am with other guests coming back and not caring how much noise they made. Doors slamming, singing and shouting!
The lights outside beamed into the room making it as light as day all night.

The staff are the best ive experienced at a yha. Super friendly happy helpful . Cosy rooms and a sale rail my child found some jeans on .
Room above us was very squeaky so could hear every time someone walked but apart from that all was lovely

Beautiful old building and grounds
Our room was in the barn and it was really not nice. It felt very old and dirty. I didn’t want to take my shoes off because the carpet was so gross. The bathroom was also gross. We have stayed at much nicer YHA hostels (that we absolutely loved) so I was surprised at the room condition of this particular property. We love staying at YHA hostels but we will not be returning to this one.

The dorm room had only 2 other people in, and there was a shower and sink in the room which was a bonus. The bed was really comfy!!
The veggie meal options were uninspiring, so I went out for dinner.

I stayed in the Bonnie Prince Charlie's room which is the weirdest room I've ever stayed in but I loved it. It had character. Self-catering kitchen made it possible to cook your own meals. Good heating available in the room. Clean bath mat provided for the shower which is in the room. Wifi was decent near the reception area.
Kitchen was an appalling mess and so crammed you could not cook. I ended up cooking at strange times just to get a hob and had to wipe the tables and benches just to be able to sit on something clean. No clean cloths were available and people were leaving out dirty or clean but wet dishes/cutlery all over the place. People also abandoned food on the stovetops and did not clean up after themselves. Kitchen was left in this state for most of my stay and was not cleaned/monitored by staff. Carpark was also crammed and I met others who were struggling to park.

The host was very welcoming and the kitchen made us food even though it was very close to closing time. The duvets were thick - luckily. The check-in time was flexible and the check-out time was reasonable.
The mattresses were inflatable mattresses, the room was quite large but only had one small portable heater to warm it so it was quite cold, there was dust & cobwebs everywhere and the floor was very uneven and creaky.

Staff was so lovely
Our room was filthy my son had all hairs in his bunk bed
The radiator and beams and window ledge was thick dust
Like never been wiped over, real shame as the building itself was beautiful run down in places but expected and staff was brilliant but no excuse for cleanliness definitely not cleaned after every family

I actually took a sharp intake of breath when I saw the hostel as we drove up; it is so beautiful! There was an amazing welcoming family atmosphere, and although this booking was just a little stopover for us, having been to Alton Towers, I wish we'd had longer to stay and explore the beautiful area. Hopefully we will be back!

They had facilities and open social rooms (wifi just about works there), the toilet facilities are outside but good
Some staff member are rude to those who look different to them, they gave our family a different room than asked and lied about the room even existing in their hall, when they clearly advertised it on the booking.com app. Later finding out the 6 bed bigger family room was the room next to us, but was only given to white family members, was appalling to find out and appalling service. No one should be treated differently or given better or more spacious rooms depending on how they look! Ridiculous!!
They claim they have wifi, however the wifi does not work in any of the rooms and there is no service

Excellent location, clean rooms, good set up, value for money, helpful host.
Check in closes at 10 pm. But they stayed upto 10:15 to complete check in. But would be better if check in time is extended upto 11 pm or 12, especially if we are coming from far away.

Have stayed here several times at different times of the year and it never fails. Loads of facilities for young travellers. Good location for a 10 min walk into Hartington, hilly but a nice walk. Staff excellent as usual and knowledgeable. We stayed in a triple room as wanted to have a private bathroom, shower was excellent and warm. Beds although bunk beds where very comfortable and clean fresh sheets. You do need to bring your own towel but can hire one if you wish. Loads of outside space and games ext, beer reasonable priced.

The place, the house is amazing. Possibility if you are early enough to book tents bungalows ( kind of) .. not only rooms.
The staff is very friendly and helpful.
The food is great - we had one time dinner and one time dessert.
It is close to the center of the village ( 2 small groceries).
A lot of hikes around.
The size of the kitchen is a bit small for the number of people.
No washing machine, but a drying room (very effective)

I love the location, the beautiful surroundings. The House itself is Spectacular and very impressive. The beds were clean and comfy. Staff were polite and friendly. There was a self-catering kitchen on site and plenty of toilets around the whole building. There was also plenty of space to relax downstairs. I would love to come back again and maybe bring family.
The one criticism and suggestion for improvements is in the communication from staff, about finding your room, the shower or bathroom, and what facilities are available, the self-catering kitchen, and walking maps, etc. I found I had to call upon staff to help me. Very little had been explained when I checked in, if it's too much for staff to explain that all I would suggest they have a welcome letter, they give to guests or a clear sign with information up on a wall explaining where everything is to save confusion and stress..
