We hoped for much better, this hotel fell well short of acceptable standards

Nothing much. Booked ‘the best room in the hotel’. Was shown into it but the staff member didn’t notice that the bed had been slept in and that there were dirty towels on the bathroom floor. The room hadn’t been touched since the last occupant left. We were moved temporarily to another room, much poorer quality, drab with a small bed and an outlook onto the car park, no bottled water, a bedside light with a shade and the other without. The temporary move proved permanent when the hotel seemed unable to find staff to make up the first room. So, we had a more basic room at a premium price. The shower flooded the floor. When we checked out, we asked for a rebate, having paid in advance for the first room and were refused because they said that the second room was on a par with the first, which was nonsense. We left, disgusted with their inability to even try to put this right. No, thanks, Rudyard Hotel - we are regular visitors to Rudyard but will not be spending money there again.

Very nice location, top food, friendly staff topped off with lots of noise and people.

Good location, lovely building, excellent food and staff. Room was very clean, good facilities and views of the surroundings. Good bar and restaurant.

There was a wedding on at the same time that I wasn’t made aware of. Therefore, the bar area was extremely busy, took a couple of attempts to get checked in to our room as the staff were rushed off their feet, the car park was also nearly full I was lucky to get a park. We went for a nice romantic weekend getaway and ended up with a very loud, busy, hectic weekend.

A lovely get away for a couple

The staff were really welcoming and attentive. The room was spacious, comfortable and clean. The hotel and its surrounding are so pretty, even in miserable winter weather. We had dinner and it was delicious and very reasonably priced, with a good wine list. The cooked breakfast in the morning was also excellent.

Great hotel

It's in a very pretty area, we had a nice walk around the lake. The hotel was great and value for money. Both dinner and breakfast were really nice. We would definitely stay again.

Overnight stay at the Rudyard

This is my second stay here, everything is very nice, it's a shame the weather is so bad as I would have gone for a walk in the morning . The food is well prepared and fresh and the staff are very friendly

The only thing I can pinpoint is that room 9 is a little chilly. Even with the radiator on at its max. Im sure had i asked for a heater, they would have supplied one

Super friendly and helpful staff, location some beautiful scenery and walks, fab breakfast, lovely big room and bathroom with a comfy bed.

The room was a bit on the cool side with heating on, there was a fan in the room which helped a little bit. It was very cold, rainy and we had just had all the bad snows so only to be expected in older buildings.

If I being super critical the room decor could do with tlc. Bathroom sealant looks old and some paper coming away from the ceiling, there are many old light points which probably don’t need to be there

Start to finish..the staff..young lady at reception very nice and explained fully. Room warm v clean and comfy ( thank you room staff) Barman. Sings in tune and v helpful. Chef..lovely menu for breakfast and food fab ( chorizo hash ) was recommended by guest and I pass that on.Thank you all very much. Helen

Lovely stay in a wonderful setting

Friendly and helpful staff. The hotel is set by a picturesque lake. There are plenty of activities to do in the area or just relaxing enjoying the lovely views. The rooms are cozy and the food in the restaurant is great.

Room overlooking car park

Fantastic location, beautiful grounds. Our dinn er was lovely but overpriced. The breakfast was very good.

The room overlooked the car park, the bathroom extractor fan did not work, the shower was either too hot or too cold• the coffee machine did not have the correct coffee pods. The bathroom also had some.e cracked tiles and there was also so.e mould.

The lake is lovely, the hotel is passable, but we won't stay there again.

Overall the staff were friendly though the initial encounter at booking in was rushed and brusque. The location was good for walking

We were given a room above the ballroom and there was a wedding party with the result that our room was vibrating with loud noise till 11pm. In the end we gave up and went and sat in our car. We had come for a quiet weekend but there was in fact nowhere to sit quietly unless you went outside. CHECK BEFORE YOU BOOK THAT THERE IS NO WEDDING PARTY ARRANGED. NO ONE WILL WARN YOU IN ADVANCE!! We had booked 2 nights but left after one, partly because of inclement weather but partly because the rooms were tiny and there was no quiet public space.

Could be so much better with a few small changes!.

Staff friendly, location good...quiet and nice gardens.

We were given the Bridal room and a second room for the last night of our stay. The bridal room was very tired, very rough looking carpet, cold tap in the bathroom was loose and swung about, reported but not fixed. No hooks anywhere to hang wet towels?. Also people going in and out the main door caused heavy banging and vibration through the floor. Breakfast seemed very basic. Cereals left in their boxes, which looked awful. Cooked breakfast was plentiful but not very well cooked. Second room, which was meant to be a lower standard, was much better.
