Villa Valjalo

The view from the balcony was unbelievable!!!! Although we never even saw the owners, getting the key was super smooth and easy with a lock box. The air con was incredible too which was needed with the August heat. The pool is also quite refreshing and peaceful. We booked here to stay near some other friends who were staying in a hotel by the beach, the location is amazing as long as you don’t mind a bit of an incline walking back home from the supermarket/beach, we are reasonably fit so it didn’t bother us. Very close to the strip of restaurants and bars, beach and multiple supermarkets. The apartment has everything you need to make a meal if you’re looking to save a bit of money on lunch like we were as restaurants in Dubrovnik aren’t cheap! I had read in reviews that there was loud building work going on in the mornings but this isn’t the case at all, I don’t think we ever heard them and we were usually out by about 1pm.

Unfortunately our stay wasn’t entirely perfect which is such a shame, all the problems we had could be easily fixed if the owners made a few switches as I’ve seen others recommend in their reviews too! Firstly our main problem was with the bathroom, the plastic mirror/cabinet over the sink was cracked and broken, the pressure of the water coming through the old shower head was far too powerful, if you weren’t holding onto it it would fly around the room soaking you and everything else! It also hurt to use unless you held it far away from your skin, especially with sunburn or in sensitive areas like the face etc. The shower curtain was the worst part, when we arrived there was yellow gunk stuck to it in multiple places and a long black hair (neither mine or my boyfriends as we have light hair). The drain must be perpetually clogged as I read in another review that it’s a race against time before the floor fills with water and that was very true! Almost immediately you are up to your ankles in water and it spills onto the floor soaking everything. These things combined with the dingy lighting and poor ventilation made showering very unrelaxing and quite uncomfortable which is a shame. Another complaint is that we booked a room with a double bed that was actually two single beds pushed together, very irritating to fall through in the middle of the night. The beautiful view and balcony is slightly dampened by the clearly old, weathered chairs that have been duct taped instead of replaced. This was expected as I noticed in the pictures before booking but still, I’m all for sustainability but replacing things that are very broken and past their usefulness should be replaced, it benefits the owners too as it would bring the value of the apartment up, the place has such potential!

Good location, it was near lapad and near the number 6 bus stop to the old town. Great facilities including the swimming pool, deck chairs, aircon, fridge and stove top. Owner was helpful and the evening of a storm, came to check in on us. Nice sized room and amazing views from the balcony. Fantastic value for our money and would highly recommend!

All was great! The only little thing I’d say was the entrance was confusing to find the first night as google maps brought us to the next street where the basement is. In the day time it’s probably fine but could be confusing if arriving in the dark. Luckily the people staying in the basement room came out to help us.
