The twin room wasn't as clean as the double

Lovely hotel with nice comfy beds and lovely staff.

The location of the hotel oppisite the castle -- which some guests get to see from the window -- is good, though beware of the noise from performances at the castle, the Millenium Stadium etc. (we coincided with both beng a June w/e, though white noise from the fan -- see below -- helped counteract). Yorkshire teabags were provided and the staff are friendly.

Stayed during very hot weather for which the hotel is absolutely not equipped. There was a very large and very noisy fan in the room, but being in a room under the roof with windows that could not be substantially opened, the room remaned very hot even when the temparature outside was falling. We had stayed here at least a couple of times before the pandemic and rather likeed the ambience of an earlier era, but this room at least had been given a make over and all character had gone. It is sad to see how this once fine hotel is slowly deteriorating, particularly in terms of the external decor whch is very shabby. The hotel is equipped with two small and slightly tired lifrs, but only one was working. Because we booked over a busy w/e of live perfomances, the room was expensive -- especially given how uncmfortable it is to stay in.
