Beautiful property, great service, stunning pool, great shuttle service and cute afternoon tea offering
Overall, we enjoyed our stay, but there are a few areas where the experience could be improved.
In villa 302, the Wi-Fi was unfortunately not working. Additionally, the bathroom could benefit from an update and a deeper clean. I understand that humidity can be challenging, especially with many wooden elements, but some extra attention here would make a difference.
I was also not fully convinced by the breakfast concept. There is no traditional buffet, and the menu changes daily. Personally, breakfast is not the time of day when I enjoy experimenting - if I find something I like, I’m usually happy to order it again. With the changing menu, breakfast became a daily trial-and-error process and also quite time-consuming. On one morning with an early tour pickup, we still had to plan around 45 minutes for breakfast, whereas in other hotels this would have been a quick 15–20 minute grab-and-go experience.
Service is attentive, but sometimes overly elaborate. For example, pastries are offered from a small tray carried around the restaurant. While this is charming in theory, it can be impractical - when you simply want another slice of bread while mid-meal, it becomes surprisingly difficult to get quick service.
We also like trying local dishes, which are included on the menu. However, without knowing whether we would enjoy them, we hesitated to order a full portion. A buffet allows guests to try small amounts without waste, which encourages culinary exploration.
Two final points:
- The gym felt underwhelming compared to other hotels - located indoors with no windows or natural light.
- We unfortunately got sunburned at the pool because the umbrellas could not be opened (despite calm conditions). A more permanent shade solution such as cabanas or sun sails would greatly improve guest comfort, especially on windy days.

There were so many outstanding things about the resort - the room, the food, the Spa but above all it was the staff - so friendly and accommodating!
The monkeys were a little irritating but on the other hand they were a special feature!!

It would be appreciated if the breakfast selection reflected a more authentic taste of the local cuisine

Beautiful setting. Loved the swimming pool and the very gracious, kind, polite staff.
Shuttle service to Ubud central but if you want to visit locale sires best to hire a driver for the day. Good for short stay as you feel a little isolated. Traffic is horrendous to go into Ubud.

I recently spent 3 nights at Alila Ubud and it genuinely exceeded my expectations, here’s a breakdown of what I loved, and a few things to be aware of if you’re considering a stay: Truly a place to pause & wind down: The hotel is nestled in the jungle, above the valley, the moment you arrive you feel an instant sense of calm. If you’re looking to escape the everyday pace, this is exactly where you should go. Beautiful, modern aesthetics with a nature-first feel. The design skilfully blends contemporary elements with Balinese touches. Every space feels thoughtful, well-maintained, and beautifully integrated into the jungle setting. The infinity pool is a highlight, it looks outstanding, especially when it rains and the jungle mist drifts in.
Because you are so immersed in the jungle, insects, lizards, and occasional monkeys are part of the experience. If you prefer pin-drop silence or a completely sealed, sterile environment, this might be a little outside of that expectation, but I loved all of that. While the property is relatively near the Ubud area, you will likely need to use the hotel’s shuttle or car service. If you plan to venture into mainland Ubud often, factor in the travel time.

A great hotel, beautiful location, and the staff is incredible. The setting is wonderful, the rooms are nice, the bedding is excellent, and the cleaning is very well done. The staff is truly outstanding. A huge thank you to the manager — I had a personal mishap with my little child who had to spend a night in the hospital, so I couldn’t sleep at the hotel on the third night. She arranged a driver for me and provided dinner for my wife and me. A huge thank you to all the staff who took such great care of us.

Very nice hotel - takes a long time to get here or I to town due to terrible traffic.
The staff are good but after staying at the oberoi few nights before the Alila is not up to that standard at all.

Stunning location but badly run
Poor choice of food at the a la carte menu, bad service and overpriced. Rooms were unnecessarily small and impractical with no privacy with the bathroom being next to the bed with only a slatted door. Noisy rooms. For a 5 star hotel it functioned as a 3/4 star but priced as a 5

Breakfast concept is little bit different, you have Al’a carte mixed with bufet, you can be lost for a sec but it’s all super delicious.

The rooms are beautiful and very well laid out. Quite spacious. The property is quiet, thickly wooded and the staff are excellent
It’s just slightly away from the main city but that’s also an advantage and makes it quieter.
Also, the monkeys can be a bit mischievous

Every thing about this hotel was lovely- a fabulous stay over Nyepi. Food very nice and great breakfast. Staff very attentive. Pool was beautiful. The only reason I am not rating it as high as I might is because of the large amount of steps and walking to get anywhere even to toilets from restaurants and pool areas. Not ideal if you have mobility difficulties.

The staff is super kind and welcoming, we really felt at home. They all made an effort to accommodate our requests. The place is in the jungle, a fantastic getaway from all the crazy city lifestyle that many of us have.
What a gem!

The property is beautiful and offers a perfect stay in Ubud, and just close enough to everything that you would want to do during your stay
The quality of food needs a major think through. While the service is great, the property needs to think about how to truly revamp their menu

Lovely property out in the jungle! Monkeys around which were entertaining.
peaceful location.
one night money did keep us up as they were fighting on the roof, which for one night was fine. and you are literally in the jungle!

Amazing hotel, great food and cosy room with a fantastic outside bathroom.
Its a little bit secluded if you want to go to town there is a shuttle bus but there is nothing around within walking distance

The property was beautiful.
There were many steps which made it very difficult for my parents to get around the property. There were many monkeys and lizards which were also very scary and we had to be very careful to ensure that they don’t get into the rooms. There was also very poor lights throughout the property which was dangerous because of the many steps and especially when it was raining. There were many many bugs and no amount of insect repellent helped

I loved everything about the Alila, hence my continual return. There have been some changes to the Alila since my last visit, but they did not interfere with the excellent service and facilities. The food, drinks, deserts, Tea Time are all delicious. The Spa is one of my favorite activities when I stay at the Alila. The therapy staff are excellent, the atmosphere is so wonderfully inviting. All the staff that I encountered there are friendly and helpful. A few that always make my stay extra special are: Juni, Widi, and Sanuka (massage therapist, I think I am spelling her name wrong). Juni accommodated my stay when my flight was changed, and I was moved to another even more beautiful Villa. Widi checked on me every morning to make sure my breakfast was perfect and that I had my oat latte coffee just the way I liked it. I can go on and on about the wonderful service and care I received during my stay.
As long as I have been visiting the Alila, I have hoped that it would turn into an adult only resort, or that an area be sectioned off for adults with children. I was unable to enjoy the pool area as much as I wanted to due to the fact that children were monopolizing it, nearly all day. The behaviors displayed by some children were also concerning to me because they greatly interfered with my space. one time I was laying out by the pool and a child two lounge chairs away from me began playing the harmika; I could not believe the parents were okay with this, but they continued enjoying their pool time as if this was appropriate, while my pool time was completely disrupted. Consistently children were running up and down the steps that lead to the pool. At one time a small child kept running back and forth to the Cabana area getting things for her parents who were lounging by the pool. I know many parents today are oblivious as to what their children are doing that can be considered disruptive to other people in the same space. I also understand that it is not comfortable for staff or other adults to interject when something is occurring that should not be, involving someone else's child. Although, children interfering with my serenity during my time at the Alila is unacceptable. I do hope that you consider making the Alila an adult only resort, or separating the children from the adult area so that my peace is not disrupted next time I return. Thank you!

Pool is stunning, dining and breakfast location is amazing and property mentioned and clean, the staff are super friendly, great location and great property
The rooms are a bit old and heritage but maintained well. To enough international plugs. If you can ignore the heritage Decor, then I think you’ll like it. It grows on you pretty quick.

The room was dirty. The property is extremely old. Needs a massive renovation. Doesn’t fit the alila brand, more a 2 star property. The food was average at best.
