Gîtes La vue sur Meuse

The furnishings are dated but the owner has made efforts to revamp what is already there with wood cladding which added a more modern feel. The floor tiles are nice and I guess original to the property they are very cool underfoot in the recent heatwave. The towels smelt beautifully fragranced and the apartment is spotlessly clean. Nice view through the back windows in sitting room and bedroom however you have to stand to appreciate this. The owner could make more of a feature of this by adding some window seating. There is some minor vibration/ noise when freight trains pass as it is opposite the main railway station but this did not bother us as my husband works within rail industry so he kept nipping out to see them. There is a barriered road rail crossing just a small distance from the house. Great for train spotters. Large and spacious apartment which is lovely and cool as it is situated beneath the owners property so you are in basement. Large kitchen/ diner with oven and full size fridge and dishwasher. Parking is down the slip road beside the river outside the owners garage and there is a side alley that you go through back to the front of the property. Parking to the front of the property is free in the evenings and before 9am otherwise charges apply but is useful for loading and unloading luggage.. It is a short walk into town which is very quiet so 2 nights for us was long enough to see Le Leffe museum and The citadelle. The citadelle lift is broken and will not be in use until 2027 so there are over 400 steps. Dinant is very picturesque and there are lovely walks along the River Meuse in the evenings. There are a few restaurants near the bridge for a drink or meal,

On arrival the property instructions were that the door would be left unlocked with keys inside but I inadvertently went through the wrong door which was the owners property which felt very awkward the owner was very gracious and welcoming however perhaps the owner could add some signage in the front garden to direct the guest. The front garden seating area could be enhanced with some real flowers to make it more inviting and it is a shame that there is no seating where you park your car along the river as we would have liked to sit out there. The shower is dated and we were unable to get the overhead shower to work only the hand held part. The shower is very snug also and water does not drain freely. The communal side alley is a little dirty with dog faeces but I'm sure this is not the owners fault and it is also unlit so make sure you arrive in daylight. Some minimal noise can be heard from owners property above but this did not disturb us. The only thing missing from the well stocked kitchen was a sharp knife for cutting bread

Location was good. A pleasant 20 minute walk along the river to the town. Nice view over river. Room was clean and spacious.

Parking was not "on site" as advertised but there was adequate easy parking on other side of road. Bedding was only fair. Bathroom was small and cramped. Very little in way of toiletries. Noise insulation from (owners') apartment above was poor.
