Beautiful medieval village

This is our second time staying at Haus Barkhausen and we love the bel étage and we love Monschau. The location is perfect, just on the edge of town but still right there. There is a little garden for the dogs to do their business and hiking trails are close by.

It's been a few years since our last stay; we noticed things were a little timeworn. There are two large bedrooms and the one facing the road is probably considered the nicer one, however, it is close to the street and traffic starts at 5 am going bumpity bump down the cobblestone street. The curtains barely cover the windows and it did not get very dark at night; some shades would help.

A beautiful house in the heart of Monschau, perfect for a great weekend with a big group.

We had a fantastic stay. The house is charming, cosy and very well equipped, with plenty of space for a large group. We were sixteen and having the whole house to ourselves made the weekend even more special. The location is perfect, right in the centre of Monschau, just a few minutes’ walk from everything. Ralf, Johannes and Judith were fantastic hosts and extremely responsive.

Everything met or exceeded our expectations.

The location was great, spacious, has everything you need.

It would be handy to have some kind of a manual, how to use the coffee machine etc. Tea-bags would be also very pleasant. The place is great, only we missed a bit a personal touch.

Historical gem near central town

The house is a historical gem. Nice and spacious. A short walk into central town. Safe parking for our car.

The hosts cannot help or change this, but there is quite a bit of "traffic" noise in the front bedroom which is very close to the road.

A charming cozy old home experience in a unique town.

A charming and cozy house. Superbly located walking distance from Monschau town center. And with beautiful views on the surrounding forest. The hosts were incredibly friendly, responsive, and helpful for any questions we had. The house was very clean, complete with coffee and tea. Though we ate out, there is a great kitchen should one want to stay in and cook. And cute garden for outdoor fire pits and star gazing. And we loved the décor of the interior -- highly recommend for a weekend getaway!

Nice location, nice apartment and friendly host

Really nice apartment for 2 person. We survived the closing of everything in Christmas thanks to the kitchen. The location is just right next to the center of Monschau. The host is absolutely friendly and helpful. The owner family made sure that we got everything we needed.

Authentic historical building: large size of the apartment; well equipped kitchen; large bathroom with bath; comfortable living room; easy procedures of checking in and out; proximity to the town centre

The floors in the apartment are not even, but this is quite well explainable by the age of the house. Everything was good for three healthy adults, but the house is not well suited for disabled and elderly people and people with small children.

Great location and lovely atmosphere.

What an amazing find just outside the center (just 5 minutes walk). Loved that you could hear the babbling river from the bedroom. The lodge is rustic but that's exactly what we loved about it, everything was clean i.e the beds, linens and towels. Beds were very comfortable. The parking spot is also very handy in a town with not a lot of parking, although hopefully you are a confident driver because it is a little tight.

The cleaning fee is a little high but I understand it's a very small town so there are probably not many options.

Great location. Decor was very in keeping with the history of the house yet had the modern conveniences.

Wonderful authentic house, pleasantly spacious and clean. All necessaries there. Beda where really comfy and of good quality. Own parking space. Kitchen stuff all there!

It was a lovely stay, I loved the house, it was cosy, stylish and well located.

The location is quiet and peaceful and very close to the town. The parking place is within 5 minutes stroll. The house is very warm and cosy, nicely old-style - with a soul, so to speak. I really liked it, it brought back some childhood memories. The facilities in the house are very good - fully equipped kitchen, perfectly working kitchen equipment, huge fridge, very nice coffee machine. The communication with the host was very good, he was extremely friendly and helpful.

There are not many things to complain about. The water stream in the shower was rather weak - maybe it could bother some people. The floor in the house was sometimes a bit uneven (probably because it is a very old house) - it didn't bother me, but maybe some people would mind it more.

Wonderful Apartment in Monschau

We had a fantastic stay here. The apartment is located in an historic, wooden building with a lot of charm but also with all of the modern amenities we needed, including a fully equipped kitchen with stove/oven, dishwasher, coffee maker, and large refrigerator/freezer; a nice bathroom with modern shower; and a dining/living room with TV, dining table, etc. We loved the wooden interior of the apartment. You could see how the wood had shifted and aged over the centuries even though it had been converted into a quaint, modern living space. The apartment had a view of the river and the woods at the edge of the village. It was extremely quiet at night. We could hear the river flowing down below, which made sleeping very easy. I also appreciated the heaters (very effective since our visit was in February) and the ability to park relatively close by. In Monschau parking is limited; so we were pleased to find a convenient lot. Our host, Johannes, was great too. He touched base with us beforehand and then as soon as we arrived to ask if we needed anything and he shared some information about day trips because we wanted to explore beyond the village. Of course there's no need to leave the village itself, as Monschau met all our expectations. We hope to return one day. Thank you Johannes!

Well appointed charming old house

The apartment was well appointed; everything was thought of. Kitchenware was of good quality and there were many unique options that are usually not found in rentals. The apartment we rented was on the first floor, the Bel Etage, and it was completely charming and quite large, with tall ceilings and large rooms. The location was good, just a short walk to the town square, and also some hiking trails in the hills. We were surprised how many cute shops were in the town. We went to the Aachen Weihnachtsmarkt but ended up finding more in the Monschau shops for Christmas gifts. The landlord was very attentive and helpful.

Traditional house feeling

I personally found the bed mattress a bit too soft, so I was sinking in. Combined with the room floor not being horizontal, it was slightly awkward. My girlfriend had no issues with it.

Highly recommend!

Perfect location in the center of Monschau. Two minutes stroll to the bakery and town square. Also many hiking tails immediately outside the house. Modern kitchen and bathroom appliances but the house still has the old feel and details. Great coffee machine as well which makes the morning really nice :) Always very clean. We've stayed here several times and will be back again!

Perfect verblijf voor een bezoek aan Monschau of een wandeling in de prachtige omgeving.

Prachtig oud huis, op wandelafstand van Monschau. Mooi gerenoveerd appartement van alle gemakken voorzien. Ruime kamers, goede ( zachte ) bedden, kleine maar goed uitgeruste keuken, badkamer met bad. Wifi en verwarming perfect.

Auto kan niet aan het huis staan, maar op een parking op 5 minuutjes wandelen . ( in en uitladen lukt wel aan het huis )

Heerlijk authentiek huis. Ruim appartement van alle gemakken voorzien. Fantastische ligging direct aan het oude centrum. Heerlijke houtkachel en zoveel houtblokken als je nodig hebt. Door de cv ook in de winter gewoon lekker warm over de gehele verdieping. Mooi rustiek ingericht.
