Esplanade Hotel

Great hotel for kids and brilliant location over looking the beach. Lots of facilities for children. Staff were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. .

This hotel is perfect, so quiet, location is superb and the scenery is amazing. Would definately recommend and return here.

Stayed here with my auntie… we were offered cheaper 1 night sea view and 3 nights in another room … luckily at breakfast after night 1 we received a call to say they could keep us where we were which was great for us! View was amazing and falling asleep to the sound of the sea/waves was just so peaceful! Breakfast lovely too!

I am surprised this hotel has received a 4 star classification, I would say this hotel it is no more than a basic three. Our standard room was small and pokey, with bland cheap looking décor, looking more like student halls accommodation. It doesn’t have AC, and it’s quite odd to see a hotel room these days with a radiator. The room was very stuffy and we didn’t want to leave windows open when we were out as it would have been easy for someone to climb into from outside. The hotel did provide a tower fan. The fridge was just a small cuboid one placed onto the floor in an ad hoc style. The swimming pool is a small one, probably no more than 8 metres in length, with no natural light and a dull functional ambiance. You’d think that overlooking the majestic Fistral beach, they could have built a swimming pool that looked out onto it, but unfortunately not. Breakfast was unexceptional. The cooked English breakfast was bland and uninspired. I don’t think the chef used seasoning at all! Salt and pepper on the table are no substitute for a bit of seasoning in the kitchen. The berry compote was exceedingly tart and stringent; a little honey or sugar mixed in would have helped! Pastries were again functional but bland. I didn’t bother ordering dinner here due to the bland breakfast and one or two reviews that seemed to suggest the same. The building itself is a strange one. All oddly angled narrow corridors with oddly placed steps here and there. We were on the first floor and from the elevator we still had to carry our heavy suitcase up and down odd groups of steps to get to our room. The rooms are not soundproofed, you can easily hear people in the adjacent rooms and the ceilings are timber not concrete which means you can hear people above you trampling around. At least the downstairs section of the hotel is nice, with plenty of seating areas looking out onto the beach. Staff however were lovely and of course the location is superb, pretty much right on the very scenic Fistral beach and easy access to the coastal walks. Be advised that the hotel takes an additional deposit of £50 per night, which we were not made aware of beforehand.
