An excellent place to stay, so peaceful and quiet. Absolutely nothing to complain about. Thank you.

Spotlessy clean, excellent central heating, everything you need to self cater for youselves with a fully equipped kitchen. A big packet of cookies with a bottle of beer and a small bottle of proseco supplied as a nice welcoming treat and a litre of milk.

Could do with a larger and newer TV, the screen was quite small and a bit blurry. (Showing my aged eyesight LOL). With my wife being disabled a couple of grab rails to get in and out of the bath would of made things easier.

Well‑Equipped accommodation and outstanding hosts

We were a family of six (inc. dog) staying across two of the cottages, and each one was beautifully newly renovated and the bedrooms felt like a boutique hotel. The cottages are really well kitted out – it’s clear the hosts have thought of absolutely everything. When we had an issue with the boiler, James arrived immediately and had it fixed within minutes. The hosts were excellent throughout and provided a really helpful list of things to do in the area. The location is ideal: very convenient for getting into York while still wonderfully quiet and rural for hiking. Highly recommend!

A high quality cottage in a peaceful setting, with accommodating hosts during illness, but ultimately let down by a refu

• High quality accommodation throughout. • The cottage was clean, comfortable, and well finished. • Peaceful location. • We genuinely enjoyed the time we were able to spend there. • The hosts showed personal understanding and flexibility while I was dealing with a serious illness and hospital admission.

• I became seriously ill during the stay and was admitted to hospital, which created uncertainty around travel and recovery. • We had paid through to 26 December but were only able to stay until 25 December once I was declared fit to travel. • No partial refund or goodwill gesture was offered despite the early departure being entirely health related. • The lack of flexibility around this issue was disappointing and impacted our overall view of hospitality.

Super Cottage

Very comfortable beds! Everywhere was super clean. Really well equipped overall. Great location as very peaceful but only a few mins drive to P&R which made getting into York nice and easy. Local pub in Sutton on the Forest did lovely food and very pleasant staff.

Cracking countryside retreat, comfortable and clean.

Rural setting, log burner and very well equipped property. The host is very attentive and generous with free welcome drinks and nibbles. Super find at a busy time of the year, booking was made whilst up in York visiting our daughter at York uni. Thank you.

Beautiful, cosy cottage in a fabulous location

Wren Cottage is in a beautiful location, not far north of York. It is spotlessly clean, well equipped and very well presented. The beds were comfy and it was cosy and warm on a chilly weekend. Claire, the owner, couldn't have been more helpful and her recommendations of places to visit and to eat were fabulous. We loved our stay and next time we visit our son at uni, we'll definitely be back.

Fantastic location in the quiet countryside but still only 20 mins from centre of York. The property was spotless and it is clear the host has really thought about their guests. Communication was brilliant before and during the stay and host was always available if required.

It felt very quiet and private, ideal for my break away from a busy life. The surrounding area was beautiful and we (me and the dog 😊) visited the lavender farm and castle Howard. The welcome gifts were very much appreciated also

The cottage was superb and couldn't fault anything. So peaceful location. Not far from anywhere you want to go and explore the beautiful countryside. Had everything we needed for our stay, even a few little surprises to make it a bit more special. The biscuits and milk were an added bonus after a long journey. It was great to get a cuppa.

Perfect weekend break

We wanted to explore York but without the city noise or parking battles—and this cottage delivered big time. Just a short drive from the centre, you're suddenly surrounded by peaceful farmland, fresh air, and absolute silence (except for the odd sheep in the distance, which only adds to the charm). The cottage was spotless, and the decor? Grey and white perfection—millennial-approved and Instagram-ready. Whoever picked the colour scheme gets me. Bonus points for the 4-slice toaster (because we’re not amateurs) and a dishwasher that meant we could relax properly. It really felt like a home away from home—only quieter, tidier, and with better lighting. If you're looking for a peaceful escape near York with all the creature comforts, this is your place. Already planning to book again next time we’re in the area. Just save us a weekend!

Absolutely fantastic stay, would highly recommend.

Our stay at The Stables was fantastic. It is a very spacious and well spec-ed property for a very comfortable stay. The host provided a long list of instructions and details about the property ahead of time, and lots of recommendations for the surrounding area. It is in a fantastic location for all sorted of activities, something for everyone. The hosts have really thought about their guests and the experience, and the property is beautiful and very dog-friendly. Having the paddock to run about in, was a real win.

A perfect little break in perfect surroundings

The log fire was heaven after a chilly walk round York! The cottage was spacious and cosy, it was very clean and had everything we could possibly need. The biscuits the host left and the milk and tea coffee etc was a lovely personal touch and was very much appreciated.

Clean, tidy, comfortable. Claire sent us an email that had every tiny bit of useful info on the day we were due to arrive about everything possible needed for our stay. So so helpful. Beautiful little log burner with supplied logs couldn’t ask for any better. The kitchen had every utensil ever thought of. The welcome pack had everything needed just to sit down and relax with.

The flush mechanism on the toilet stuck down every other flush because of the hard water. We were told about this before hand and told how to fix it. I didn’t mind, but some people might get fed up with it, if staying for longer.

The only downfall was the knobs on the cupboard doors, some were very sharp, I opened the dishwasher and cut my finger slightly.
