The hostess was very nice during our stay. Value for money and great location.

We didn't eat breakfast there as were not hungry

What I didn’t like was the noise, as our room faced the main street and we could hear bystanders chatting late at night. I was also unsure if the pillows, bedsheets, and duvet cover were freshly cleaned, so I didn’t use them and just wore warm pyjamas instead.

Pleasant and enjoyed the hospitality.

Breakfast was quick, satisfying, and offered a decent variety, with a good choice of cereals. The room itself was spotless, cozy, and comfortable—perfectly warm for a winter stay.

The Anchorage is in a great location and the owner is very personable. Whoever cleans the rooms also does a very good job.

The Anchorage is run down for the most part. It's clean but musty. As I was out most days, I booked it on price and from reading customer reviews about how efficiently it is run. But the Anchorage is not everyone's cup of tea. I managed 3 nights here alone, but your spouse might get mad at you for making a reservation here. That stated, hotel's location--a short walk to the train and bus stations, and to Waterford sites and restaurants, is excellent.

Very nice stay in Waterford

Our room was very spacious, clean, and comfortable. The host, Michael, was very helpful and engaging. Excellent location for visiting Waterford. Parking right across the street. Good breakfast an option at a very reasonable price.

On a main street, so quite noisy at times, with a pub downstairs that was noisy on Friday night. We didn’t mind, but be aware of this.

Avoid room 203; 201 looked nice, remainder unknown.

The host, Michael, was affable and helpful. I'm somewhat loath to leave this honest review, as he may be doing his best to restore a derelict property, but he's been at it for 20 years, by his own account.

In fairness, at least one room (201) looks quite nice; however, our room (203) was dingy, smelly, poorly ventilated, and sparsely furnished, with numerous holes in the walls. The carpet was in good shape, and the room was moderately clean, although the bathroom had some mold in the shower. The breakfast, cooked to order, was good, but the carpet in the dining room was appallingly stained and old. I'd have thought that would be a priority renewal item.

Honestly the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. It was the only room left in town, so we booked it. I would recommend changing your travel plans if that is the case for you. I am not picky so I thought some of the reviews might be extreme. But it is much worse than you can imagine. The man checking us in was lovely, and deserves a better hotel to work in. They need to invest money into the place in every way, it was overall a depressing and disquieting experience.

The walls and ceiling were stained with some splashes, so gross. Carpet on stairs is torn and ancient. The bathroom had curling lino and stained shower. The window opened onto a corrugated steel wall. The room was sweltering but the open window had an industrial fan outside it that ran all night, the noise was awful. Completely bare walls, with screws where pictures once were. The windowsill was deteriorated and grossly sticky.

Would I go back definitely not

The breakfast (cost 5 euros) was very good. Really enjoyed it and it set me up for the day.

The shower was fairly good. However the whole place was very dated and very noisy at night. So much that I was woken up several times. On one occasion I could hear the person in the next room snoring. I even watched something on my ipad at 1 o'clock.

Great little place to stay to see Waterford

This location is perfect to walk from the train station. It is an easy walk to museums and Waterford Crystal. There were many pubs and restaurants near by. The best was the breakfast every morning. It was made fresh and to your specific order. The bed was comfortable. The room and bath was very clean.

We had a room facing the street. Road noise and the nearby pub was loud until about 11pm. We knew that was a possibility before booking.

I think many of the reviewers of the Anchorage are unfairly equating "old" with "dirty." Yes, it is a very old building and there are elements that could use an update, but our room was spotless, very spacious and comfortable, and smelled fresh and clean. Michael was incredibly kind, friendly and accommodating, and you can tell he puts a lot of meticulous care into every aspect of the hotel, from the cleanliness of the rooms to the delicious breakfast. It is excellent value for the price! Also, the location is perfectly central and there is parking directly across the street!

There is a bar two doors down that had a live band playing the night we were there. It was quite loud, didn't bother us but it may bother some people. We were on the second floor facing the street, so I'd imagine most of the other rooms would be quieter. If you're travelling through Ireland, I'd recommend bringing ear plugs along with you, as the streets are rarely quiet at night! :)

Worst accomodation experience ever.

Everything else! Dangerous stair carpet. Filthy & badly stained breakfast room carpet. Mould & dirty grout in shower. Inoperable fan in bathroom & shower doors difficult to open & close. Bed with a big dip in the middle & protruding springs, despite a thick mattress cover. Ancient linen & poor pillows. Holes in the walls. Awful outlook, close to a grey metal fence & gulley with rubbish. The noisy fan from the kebab shop next door, vented into the gulley and ran all night.

Weigh the pros and cons before booking to avoid disappointment

Michael, the host, and all the staff are great! Breakfast was tasty, made fresh, served up in a nice bright room. The location was good, with a convenient paid parking lot directly across the street. Tully’s bar, a great pub, is just around the corner. Bathroom was modern and well equipped; everything functioned well. Sheets were clean with no sign of unwelcome pests.

I will attempt to be honest. The room is definitely not up to the standard that most people expect in hotels these days. Don’t expect the Ritz Carleton here, but do consider the price and convenience. Yeah, the carpet is shot, the windows are dirty, the beds are old and creaky, the paint is dowdy, there are no pictures on the walls, there is no furniture (except for the wardrobe that prevents the door from opening fully!). I don’t think there is a/c, but the windows do open. Quite a bit of traffic noise however. We actually had quite a laugh over the creaky bed springs and floors.

Horrible stay

Nothing likeable about this stay

The mold and filth was unhealthy. Smoke smells in the hallway. Very loud street noises so opening a window was not an option. The owner was not there to let us in. I tried to cancel as it day before going, after being warned of the misrepresentation on Booking.com, but no reply was given. The bed was uncomfortable and if I could have afforded walking away from this reservation I would have.

The location was perfect

Very friendly staff. Michael was very friendly. I also enjoyed talking to the Ukrainian women who work there. Delicious breakfast. The location was perfect. You can park your car in front of the hotel (12 euros per day).

Room 201 had a bad shower drain, but Michael promised to fix it. The room windows overlook the road, there is a pub nearby. So until late at night you could hear the pub visitors, and from the very morning they were taking out empty beer barrels, it was really very loud.
