Good overall - but improvements needed with the Observatory staff

Quality of drinks in the downstairs bar was good, room was super, cupcakes for my wife’s birthday were a great touch. The staff at the front of desk were brilliant.

The staff in the Observatory closed the bar at 11:15 despite the info online saying midnight. This was very annoying because we went up to get a nightcap and there was already people there drinking. This felt like very poor form, especially from a hotel we have come to expect good things from. We stayed in a cheaper room this time so it didn’t bother me as much - but I can’t imagine paying for a larger suit and being told they’re winding down the bar early - you would feel so ripped off.

Relaxing bedrooms, friendly staff, inadequate lifts to rooms.

The rooms were extremely comfortable and quiet, location very central. Staff were very friendly.

Unfortunately there was an issue with the lifts. There were long queues to get to the rooms and we ended up carrying our luggage up 10 flights of stairs, there was a long wait for them again in the morning so we couldn’t use them again and other residents were also complaining. I don’t usually leave negative feedback but given the price we paid I feel that it needs to be addressed. We did raise it with staff who apologised and said one of the lifts was being maintained so perhaps we were just unlucky.

Room for improvement

Great location and view, the observatory bae is amazing for cocktails.

I was very disappointed with our recent stay. The rooms were extremely small, and the heating in our room was not working properly. Despite leaving it on, the room was freezing. When we contacted reception, they were not particularly helpful, and we were left to deal with it ourselves. Thankfully, it warmed up slightly later in the night, but this was far from acceptable. We were also very frustrated with our experience at the Observatory Bar. As residents, we were told we would be prioritised, yet we waited over 40 minutes to be escorted upstairs. We were repeatedly told it was very busy and that someone was on their way to collect us. The staff member we spoke to was rude and unhelpful. After waiting such a long time, we decided to go up ourselves (despite being told guests must be escorted). When we arrived, there were at least 20 free tables, and we were seated immediately. Unfortunately, because of the long delay, it was near closing time, and we were only able to have one drink. This experience really put a dampener on our night. Overall, the level of service and room quality did not reflect the price we paid. We expected a much higher standard and left feeling disappointed. We were also not asked how our stay was at check-out, so we did not feel comfortable raising these issues at the time. I felt it was important to share this feedback directly, as it did not reflect the standard we were expecting.

Not enough lifts.. I had to carry luggage down 12 flights of stairs when checking out..Check in and out was slow..Glazing shattered resulting in the main entrance doors being out of use.

The tv in our room didn’t work. I rang down to reception who said they’d send someone up. But after 1 hour 10 mins of waiting I had to go down to reception myself and say again. We were eventually moved to a new room.

The breakfast was superb and the hotel is beautiful. However the main asset are the staff, who were all so lovely and pleasant and quick to help. Ryan from the cocktail bar, is worth a special mention and proves that any hospitality business is only as good as their public facing staff.

Staff where beyond terrible, walked past numerous times and ignored on a regular basis when other tables were asked if they were Ok. When I did order the order never came, and had to attract a member of staff attention. The service in the restaurant was no better.

The beds were comfortable and its a good location

The lifts would not go to the selected floors. Lots of other people were also complaining about this. One person called it a game of lift roulette. I asked a member of staff for an afternoon tea menu in the observatory and she didn't come back with one. I also asked for ordinary tea bags from reception as there were none in the room. None were delivered. There was no warning about the master switch and one of the kids turned it off when going to bed and we couldn't get the lights to work in the room or bathroom. Phoned down to reception. No answer and then I seen the switch. Might be useful to tell people on arrival especially when staying in a family room.

The sink in the bathroom was tiny and no shelf to put any products on . The bathroom was large but the sink was the size of a cloakroom sink . Could have had decaf coffee and also some selection of cookies . The process for leaving and collecting luggage needs a smoother process . The staff couldn’t find my suitcase on two occasions and it seemed a little chaotic

Loved it!

We got upgraded to a suite as we’d just got married so we were delighted. The room was spacious, very clean and the bed was comfortable. We would definitely come back!

Not worth the Hype

Just OK – Not Worth the Hype" Stayed at the Grand Central Hotel recently. Overall, it was just okay — nothing special. Check-in was delayed despite arriving at the standard time (3:00 PM); I had to wait until 3:30 PM for the room to be ready, still wasnt Ended up leaving my bags at reception and heading to the shops to pass time. Not the smoothest start to a stay, and the experience didn’t really improve much from there.

Unhappy guest !

Room not clean, poor house cleaning. Had to ask for towels a number of times.coffee maker did not work, even after we reported it. Also, I was not told there was a residents lounge until the day before we were leaving.we were there 16 days.I told the front desk all this when we were leaving, and the answer I got back was "well we are very busy at this time of year, and it's hard to keep up" such a pathetic answer ,for a hotel which is 5stars and cost so much.

The only thing was the view from the hotel and the young people that worked the top bar.
